Cross Road TEXTING call Kill you!

crossing road text - this is something really sad
Philippines

Most Specially if you're walking on the street crossing with hundreds of undisciplined raging drivers. This isn't new but shouldn't we be focus more on the ROAD while crossing instead of doing something else like listening to radio, talking to some one or texting messages. I feel sad for the Call Center Agent who lost her life simply because of this simple regard. Nobody want this to happen, but there's a lesson here, Never take your eyes off the ROAD. Don't text while crossing the street

The real thing is it only takes a small amount of common sense to know that texting or even any activity done that will divide your attention while crossing a busy street would put you in danger. When we were young, we are always told that when crossing the street (busy or not)always look on both side where vehicles are coming before crossing. Sometimes the small things are the ones that hurt when disregarded.

Hello Harmonics, I agree, that is one thing that I was thought to do and not to mention i wasn't allowed to cross the street until I was on the right age. what happened there is a real life demonstration of what happen if you are not careful or attentive to the road. have a Nice day.

I agree that common sense should always be used everyday, no matter how mundane a task is It saves time, money and many o9tehr things. In this case,it could have saved a life. While I don't really on the side of the drivers' on many occasions, I could hardly fault them if there was a person crossing the street and not paying attention to the road. Not even the most patient driver could be at fault when it is the commuter who breaks the rules.

Where I live the roads are not that bad but you still watch before you cross. What idiot does not pay attention to a danger zone while crossing into it, I think the cell phone and texting has taking over our lives and the main think people do on their cell phones is Facebook, they have to constantly update their status like " I am crossing the road while not looking because I am telling you guys about it while doin it" come on where the heck has our instincts and common sense gone?

I can not believe that people drive so carelessly there. You would think they would care about the life of others. I can see where our countries are different.

Hello Amanda, In the US the road rules are very strict so no one would dare to disregard it but of course, there's a chancethat some one will buzz you there first and stop before they can hit some one. but that's completely different in the Philippines.

Hello ifa225, She should stop doing anything in her phone while crossing the road. what if the red sign for crossing pedestrians were set and then she didn't stop walking while cars began to ride on the go signal? these are the things you should remind her of or it's gonna cost her life. have a nice day.

I totally agree with you. It sounds so redundant already but these simple things that you mentioned can really save lives. While I'm on my way to work or on the road, I see to it I don't use my phone or my music player. I'm very attentive when I'm on the road. I was almost hit by car when I was in college. I'm listening to some music and texting while crossing the road when a car overtake a jeepney. It happened so fast and I just saw the car just inches away from me. Good thing that the driver was able to stop the car right away. I didn't mind what happened since I'm busy but when I finally crossed the road, a man told me "Naku muntik ka na masagasaan, ang swerte mo lang!" (You were almost hit by that car, you are just lucky!). That is the time that everything that happened hit my senses.

Hello Chiwasaki, Drivers here in our country really thinks they own the road that they can hit whomever they ram themselves on. like in this case, the girl wasn't very attentive tht killed her. I wasn't that attentive last night but thank god he motorcycle driver buzz me before i turn around that i was almost getting hit. Have a nice day.

Good thing that you are safe. I agree with you, drivers here thinks like they are the king of the road. Specially during rainy days. They are quite aware already that there is flood but will speed their vehicles more so that the people on the side of the road will get wet. It happens to me once when I was walking in Ortigas Center. Good thing the flood is just clear rain waters not that grayish black type of flood.

That's sad. When will people ever learn to take precaution especially in crossing the road. Sometimes we even blame the drivers for speeding up but actually both the pedestrian and driver are at fault. Though the law says that the driver should always yield, the pedestrians should also learn how to be cautious.

Hello toni, This happened twice, based on the news another agent was hit by a truck because of he's inattentive to cross the road. I feel sad and sorry for these people that they lost their lives simply because they weren't paying attention on the road. but a lesson to all of us that we have to be careful and not get distracted while on the road. have a nice day.

Yeah, you definitely need to be alert when crossing the street and don't rely on the drivers to just stop for you. One day I was in a parking lot and a young little kid was playing on an iPhone and not paying attention at all and he almost walked out in front of a car until his mom yelled at him. Phones are a distraction no matter what we're doing and we need to have full attention on situations that could potentially end up dangerous.

Hello Courtknee, I think it's obvious that being responsible to use your phones at a proper place. this is not a problem if we know how to do it which is really not that hard. It's a good thing the mom shouted at him for his own good anyways. have a nice day and be careful.

Yes, it seems common sense to me that you need to pay attention. People get too wrapped up in their phones and don't pay attention to their surroundings and that's how they end up in dangerous situations.

I would rather say, instead of cursing those raging drivers, we should discipline ourselves by not using that much abused toy called ‘Mobile’ while on the roads.

Hello Arle, Well, It wasn't really hard to begin with but the problem is that some people forgets it and they end up getting killed, which was a bad idea. they abused themselves using the mobile phone while disregarding plae for it's proper place for using the Mobile Phone. Have a Nice day.

That is very sad I feel sad for the woman that lost her life with this. I am sure this is not the first time it has happened but it is the first time I have heard of it. I saw someone riding a bicycle and texting I thought how dangerous that is while riding alongside cars traveling fast. But yes it would be a bad idea to text while crossing a street because even though we should be safe if the traffic signal says its ok for us to walk we should be prepared in case someone isnt paying attention and runs a redlight. Perhaps if she was hurrying across the road and watching to make sure no cars were coming maybe she would still be alive.

Hello Shaggin, No, this isn't. they were a lot of cases of pedestrians most specially call center agents loosing their lives either on the roads or criminals who would actually rob them or have them killed. but in this case, she never should have use her phone while crossing the street. i feel sad for what's happened to her.

Yes, I agree. This can be a very dangerous issue. You should never text and cross a busy street. This doesnt allow you to look both ways. My parents always taught me to look both ways before crossing a street and I am sure most parents do teach their children that. Its unfortunate that so many have lost their lives because of texting while crossing.

Hello Oscar, the issue is not dangerous but an eye opener for people who are disregarding pedestrian rules. yes, parents or any elder teach their children and when they grow up they should learn this and not diregard it any second of the moment they cross the road. because this will happen. so sad.

i remember one video posted on youtube years ago. while he was driving his car, he was also holding his phone on one hand and his eyes were at the road alternating at his phone. at a split of a second, he found his car hitting a car in front of him. and there was a domino effect with the other vehicles and killed a lot of people.

What a pity. I think there's a law that prohibits using cellphones while driving but none saying you shouldn't use cellphone while walking because I do text while walking sometimes. There could be no law prohibiting texting when crossing but it's just plain stupid to do so unmindful of vehicles and there's no need for that kind of reminder. I can't blame the driver either because he is still liable on what happened whether he intentionally run over that poor agent or not. Truth is, accidents happen but some can be avoided if you think of your safety first.

Hello Ybong, Either call or text while walking on the road is a complete NO-NO and every matured young or middle aged adults should have known, more over we are supposed to be responsible crossing the road on our teens age. shouldn't there a law? this is really a joke if the congress makes some, it proves people's lack of responsibility is increasing in some aspects. but now i have seen it, it will remind me to just focus on the road. have a nice day.

I see nothing wrong texting when you're on the side walk, or if have to and you have to cross the street then check the road for incoming vehicles. Sometimes it's really our own selves that puts us in danger because there are people who think they own the street and would still cross it even if there's an incoming vehicle. There are also drivers that won't just slow down even if they see people crossing thinking that he has more right to the road. Nothing's going to happen is someone gives in, but if the person crossing the street and the driver of the vehicle refuses to give in then something bad is going to happen.

Common sense tells us that the road has its many hazards . Hence, it is imperative that you should avoid doing something that can occupy your mind and eyes and not see or hear what's coming from behind, on the side and in front. Napaka naman kasi.

Texting while walking can injure you or worst - cost you your life if you're not careful. This was also a bad habit of mine until I tripped over a hole in the road and broke my ankle. I never do this anymore especially when I'm walking on the road.

Hi, LetranKnight25. This is very true. I would never, ever put myself in a situation like this at all. When walking, a person's eyes should be fixated on the street and their surroundings. To text while crossing the road, can surely be extremely dangerous! I would rather just wait until I am somewhere safe to text no matter how important the text may be.

hello, I agree with you, just to add I think another factor here is lack of sleep, lack of sleep+texting+earphones=disaster. Call center agents are known to always lack sleep, and so are most drivers. I really believe the combination is a fatal cocktail.

i think texting while crossing the street and texting while driving is not such a bad thing people live people die its a part of life i think if its your time to go then your gonna go wrether your texting or not besides there are too many people in the world to begin with so this is just a form of human popualtion control i mean it is always sad when someone loses their life even if they deserve it but no one lives forever
