When you have been given a new medication do you look it up on hte Internet? I do and I alwasy look at the side effects. Many times this scares me so much that I will not take the drugs. I have a very serious desease that causes dry mouth and dry eyes. So I have been given pilocarpine to help relieve these. The side effect are not nice but both the dry mouth and dry eyes are starting to have damage done to them that cannot be repaired. So I am trying the medication regardless of the side effect and hope that it will help.

I fight and argue with my doctor over almost everything he prescribes me...LOL. He always tells me that even if someone stubs their toe when they are on the medication..they have to put it in the side effects. He says that the benefits outweigh the chance of the side effects. I still research it. I hope the medicine helps you...it doesn't mean you have to accept it quietly...LOL..but if it helps you it is worth the try.

I don’t look up medicines on the Internet but I do question the doctor in regards to side effects and risks as well as read the accompanying literature if there is any. The reason I don’t check on the Net is that I don’t always trust the information and I don’t want to scare myself into not taking it if I need it. That is the problem sometimes we have to choose between the side effects and the illness and one can be almost as bad as the other. Hope you feel better soon...

I take 3 different kinds of medication and I have looked up every one of the them. I did that before I took the first pills, it is very important to me to check the side effects and the right dosage, because I have had a couple of bad experiences in the past. The worst experience was a doctor who gave me 3 times the correct dose. I had very severe side effects and it was a very bad experience. Fortuneately his mistake didn't have any lasting consequenses and when the medication was out of my body I got tid of the side effects. Since that time I have been extremely careful when I get a new prescription, and I always check the medication online.

Well, if the dry mouth and especially the dry eyes are causing damage, I would take the pill. After all, if you feel sick after you take the pill, you could always call your doctor and tell him about it and he will probably change the medication.

You have to bear in mind that if a side effect has even been reported once it has to show up on those lists. I discussed some of my concerns once about an antibiotic when pregnant. My very wise, old doctor told me that yes, there could be side effects, but the effects of my illness were much worse for me and the baby than the side effects of the medicine. Just be sure your doctor monitors you, I forget what tests go along with using pilocarpine, but I am aware that we gave it often in the nursing home.

Yes, side effects can be very dangerous too. I am very careful about that. When I buy medicines, my pharmacist always explains to me what the side effects can be, and to be careful. If I get the side effects, if very bad, I would stop taking that medicine.

I look at the medicines and also at the diagnosis. Sometimes it is most helpful as not all doctors are good even if they are wearing awfully expensive suits. In fact, I have found better doctors among the ones who dress worse. Once, one of those regal ones gave me a med that made me cry when I wasn´t sleeping. A friend got worried and we checked at the web. I threw it away at that moment.
