Here's that discussion I said I was going to make. In any case, this is about rainchecks. We run out of things so quickly at our location that it's not uncommon for people to ask for rainchecks, or for people to bring them in. Most of them who have gotten them before, know to give it to us FIRST and not last. Then there are those who give it to us last, that's annoying.
They don't know that we have to void the items off unless we tell them, and I am not the type of person to tell them because it's not nice to do, the customer is always right...
In any case, still it gets a little bit annoying when people do that.
Do you get rainchecks when the item you want isn't available? Do you know what a raincheck is?

Sometimes I get a raincheck and sometimes I don't bother. It depends on how badly I want the item.I go to the service counter when I go in to see if it's even in and then ask what to do. I've only done it 2xs in my 53 years of life. So I don't even remember what to do. I find it annoying that they don't have enough in stock and sometimes I only go to a store once in a great while so a raincheck is really inconvient, esp. with the price of gas, unless the store is close by or you go every week.

Most of the customers at the one I work at, go every week, sometimes several times a week. The store is right by a few rich neighborhoods, so you can imagine the customers we get. They are all very nice, only once in awhile is there the not so positive ones. It's an inconvenience to the customers when we are out, and I agree that if you don't live near the store a raincheck isn't all that helpful.

I know what a raincheck is and haven't used one in so long I had forgotten about their existence. I think they are good to a business and good to the customers. So its a good-good situation. I don't think it would be rude to just ask if the customer has any rainchecks before beginning to check their groceries. Like they ask us if we have our discount card.

Oh yes, I have asked once I believe, but I just don't think to ask, I have so many questions I must ask already. I need to, especially if they already have coupons. Some forget they have it, some remember during the transaction, had one the other day where she remembered but luckily before I rang the items up.

It can be, but not nearly as much as I made it seem.

That's me. I forget to ask. I am sure it is frustrating when they forget.

Yes it is! It's been around in the US for awhile now, I can remember seeing signs in the meat department of stores I'd go to with my parents when I was a kid. Some people on here have said they've not seen rainchecks etc in quite some time, It may be the places they shop. Here in my area it's still done.

When I used to work for a retail store a few years ago, we had a raincheck policy. But I got that job stocking shelves at night, and I was only assigned during store hours for a few weeks.
I actually hated doing rainchecks so I would tell customers that we ran out of those products and we don't know when they are coming. I wasn't supposed to say that, but it was just such a hassle, that it was easier to lie.

I don't have to deal with it myself, just tell the customer to go to customer service, or get one of the people that do the rainchecks to do it, it has to be signed by a "manager" per se so we can't do it as cashiers.
It doesn't seem too much a hassle, unless they're getting like 6 in a row

Yes I have gotten rainchecks before and sometimes I use them and sometimes I don't. I am the type that wants the cashier to know I have a raincheck and or discount coupon right away before she rings up any part of my order.
I often thought it was important so that it does not mess up the cashiers ringing. Yes I did know what rainchecks are and if I go for a product and I really find I was going to get a discount, and they were out I immediately ask for them.

Quite often I'll ask for a rain check, especially if it was a good deal and something I really wanted to get. They should have a sign facing the people waiting in line for checkout: please give your coupons and rainchecks to the cashier before she starts checking you out. Lol, I know exactly what you mean since I did work in retail for a while. The store I worked in required us to call the manager over before anything was able to be voided. Then the customer would sometimes get upset because it had to be voided out, re-entered, and all that. I always set all my 'stuff' (coupons, rainchecks, etc) on the belt ahead of my stuff to get checked out so that she/he's got it before even starting to ring out...

Yep, I do know what rain checks are, and how to use them at our store, although I probably would ask, just in case. I have not needed to get them in a long time. Maybe I do not have enough people to feed and so do not buy the right things. Anyway, I used to go in at the first of the sale, and get what I wanted, then go the last day and get rain checks, so I could get even more, and find coupons to go with them.

I don't really know what a raincheck is. Would you be an angel and explain to me what it is?
