Flood took my home..

United States

So last week Eastern Pennsylvania got drenched with over a foot of rain in three days. We had severe flooding which resulted in over 3 foot of water in our home's first floor. We have lost everything on that floor minus a few random items. I have to say it is amazing how our community has pulled would be an understatement. People from other towns have brought food, cleaning supplies and themselves to help clean out people's homes and land. The support is amazing and this post is not for you to feel sorry for us but to praise all the folks who have come to the rescue of our little flooded town! To all of the hugs and thanks.

We are so thankful too. The Red Cross has been a God sent as well as the local churches and other volunteer groups. With out them I do not know what we would have done.

Thank you. The clean up is just about done, then to wait for everything to dry then to rebuild. We are hoping to be home in time for Christmas.

I am so sorry! I'm glad that something good has come out of it, but I'm sorry it happened. Keep us updated on how things are coming along if you will.

Well we have almost all of the wall, ceilings and floors out of the first floor. We lost everything on that floor and will need to basically rebuild it all. The basement we lost all the essential appliances, furnace, hot water heater washer and dryer. But that is all down there. We are fortunate as we know people whose whole house contents and all are completely gone.

One of my fellow booksellers lives in Harrisburg and he was very busy before the evacuation trying to get his first few shelves of books from the floor to higher, safer, ground before he had to leave. It wasn't quite as high as he expected, which is better than higher that you expected. I'm glad you had help . I'm sorry for what you lost. I have a friend in Vermont who has a bed and breakfast. Fortunately the flood didn't get into her interior, so she was able to help others who were harder hit. I think Vermont also pulled together to help those with flood damage and no power or water (at least not drinking water.)

Glad to hear there are good people in Vermont as well. It is so sad to hear the stories from NJ that are so very opposite of our own.
