A few of you may remember from about a week or two ago a discussion, or actually TWO where I had tagged someone's discussion to alert everyone not to respond. I did this, because the guidelines ask us too, I also did this so that the discussion starter would know that it was against guidelines.
I opted not to respond because I did not want to lose any money on here. I am on here every once in awhile, because I now work, I still use the money I can make here for savings etc. In any case, I also didn't want my rating to go down.
That person made a discussion using symbols in place of curse words, cursing the person to whom tagged the discussion. Several people before me responded that they saw the discussion and while the tags may have been an irritant to the discussion starter, it wasn't against the rules and was a warning.
I then responded, revealing I was the one who did it and left them with the link to the guidelines and the exact guidelines I followed to allow me to tag as I did.
NOW I have had two tags on my own discussions removed, and thus feel a little of this person's irritation. I have had the tags removed because they were offensive to me. They were on my discussion about speaking english and the one about outsourcing calls to other countries from US citizens who need their questions answered.
I stressed on the speak english please discussion that I was not trying to be offensive, and yet from the responders everyone agrees, I still had that tag.
I don't want to start a fight, or anything. That isn't why I am here. I want to just state that tags are POINTLESS now when mylot has turned into nothing but what seems to be a rant fest and those who get offended by the rant so easily and thus "bash" the discussion.
It's just stupid people, GROW UP!
Is Mylot kindgarten now?
Do you tag offensively?
READ MY DISCUSSION THROUGH AND THROUGH BEFORE YOU LABEL IT!

It NOWHERE says in the Guidelines that we should tag discussions for the reasons you stated. In fact, GoAskAlice said categorically a while back that we should NOT tag discussions as "reported" or "guideline violation". What we ARE asked to do is to report abusive behaviour.
Tagging allows for a way to categorize and search discussions and messages in myLot for easy navigation. We are asked to submit keywords associated with the discussion topic and irrelevant or 'commentary' tags are not such.
If you or anyone else thinks that a tag is not relevant to the topic, then you can (and are asked to) report it as abuse.
If you think that MyLot has turned into a 'rant fest' and you don't like it, there are two things you can do:
1) Leave MyLot. Note that I'm not saying that you ahould ... just it is one of the options!
2) Do something positive about it by NOT posting rants yourself (such as this) and by reporting other users who do (when you consider that it classes as 'abuse'). MyLot relies on its members to help it run the site well.

I used to tag discussions but not anymore. It is a real waste of time for me actually.

I think all this stuff is SOOOOOO childish! If we all go by the rules that were set down for a reason then we shouldn't have a problem. Yet I hear of mishaps on here nearly everyday. I don't know what goes on unless someone tells me because I am never a party to it and not involved. I have been on this site for several years and I really fail to understand why members have to be so childish.

I actually like my lot. I have found very useful information out on here, plus I consider some my friends. I just ignore the short answers and people can not seem to control themselves and enjoy the rest.
