I have been staying with my mom and her brother and they watch old western shows on an Encore station. In the morning time they watch "Cheyenne" with Clint Walker as Cheyenne Bodi. And then in the late afternoon they watch "The Virginian" starring James Drury,Doug McClure and Lee J. Cobb. When I was a kid my mom liked James Drury the best and I liked Doug McClure the best.He had a beautiful smile. Then they watch "Wagon Train"!With Ward Bond and the handsome Robert Horton. When my sister and I would rush home to watch Flint McCullough!"Wagon Train" was on in the afternoons then. Then they watch a show that I had never seen before,"Have Gun Will Travel" starring a man that was a great actor Richard Boone. But,in my opinion and my mom's most of the time that show is silly.A few times it was pretty good. Then my favorite show comes on,"Gunsmoke" with the great James Arnez! That was my favorite show when I was a kid.Matt Dillon was my hero! I named my first son Matthew, lol. When my he passed away on June 3rd,I cried. And there were other western shows that I used to watch."Bonanza" with many great actors,Michael Landon,Lorne Greene,Dan Blocker and Pernell Roberts. When Michael Landon died I cried too. And then there was "High Chapperel" with actors Leif Erickson,Cameron Mitchell and Henry Darrow.I named my youngest son Cameron. We also watched "Big Valley" in the late 1960's,with Barbara Stanwick,Lee Majors and Linda Crystal. Which western show is your favorite?

I like all the old westerns and am so pleased that Encore is airing them. These westerns first aired when I was a kid watching them with my family. My dad loved all those old westerns. My favorite of these shows airing on Encore is "The Virginian". James Drury has done so many good movies and tv series other than The Virginian but that's a title he'll always wear. Did you know that James Drury travels all over the country to western events still spreading the word of the western way? He's 77 years young and still very active with his fans cheering him on. He inspires me a great deal to keep doing the things I love and not let my age get in the way of anything. He'll be in Swanton, Ohio, Oct. 1&2 for the 2nd Annual Charity Ride For Veteran's Open Horse Show. I'm going out there, 6 hours from here to meet him. I'm very excited as I'm not one to just pick up and go. Check out: www.thevirginian.net and also his facebook pages ran by his assistant Karen. You'll love it. Doug McClure also has a facebook page his daughter, Valerie has.

Yes,I do know that.My mother is a big James Drury fan and we are making plans to go to one of his events. We visit that website often. He was best friends in real life with Doug McClure.James said that when Doug would walk into a room he would light up the whole room with his glowing personality, just shining to even strangers and that the ones that knew him loved him. That wonderful smile didn't hurt either.I loved his smile. Lol,the other day,my 9 month old granddaughter was in her baby walker and she went to the TV while we were watching "The Virginian" and she was reaching for Doug McClure to pick her up.And,I told her,"You wish Lilyan"

That is cute. Doug was one fine looking cowboy. I always like watching them good looking cowboys now just as I did as a kid. I'm excited about meeting James Drury this coming weekend. He's one special fella.

"The Virginian" was my favorite; however, there wasn't any I would skip. The actors were great, but James Drury really made my face light up. Westerns just bring back great family moments when we would sit around the little television set. I love the black and white shows.

I spent a lot of time with James Drury yesterday. The first time I had met him. He is so devoted to his fans. I joined his group on facebook, The Virginian's Posse a few months ago. It got me hooked on following his current appearances. Of course I grew up loving him. He's done a lot more than that 9 season show. He's amazing.

I watched "Little House on the Prairie" as well. One of my favorites too.Michael Landon had the best laugh and hair. That show was based in that era,but it wasn't really a western show. But,Michael Landon was in "Bonanza",but a great show.

Admittedly i was born well after western shows were popular. But in recent years I've really gotten into Bonanza and Gunsmoke. Though I pfefer Bonanza a little more I enjoy both shows. Apparently they even tried doing a prequel to Bonzanza a few years ago but never knew they did. Never seen any of the follow-up movies they did for either show though.
