Crabby mood, realtor came by about the house, feeling down. I go grocery shopping. I get in the checkout line just as one of the really friendly checkers is going on break. She sees me, clocks back in, and takes care of me. She was glad to see me, we had a nice chat, and I felt a lot better afterward.

I think it's great she came off her break to help you. It's amazing how just the smallest thing can make a difference in a person's day. Just curious. Did pick up mor groceries then you really needed? I know if I'm not having a great day and go shopping, I start grabbing things a really can do without. Best Wishes!

They do don't they? Life is funny that way. They say that God only gives you what she feels you can handle. I was just watching a show about the world's disasters that may come. Sunamis, earthquakes, and valcanos. Will something happen just when we need it? We all need that grocery clerk.

There are certain people that can lift your spirits. I have a couple of them, although I don't get to see them often.

There are a few others at the same store. They must just attract nice people.

Sounds a like a very nice cashier! It is true that sometimes the right word or smile can come along and make everything so much better although the opposite can be true too! I am glad to see that some stores still employ really nice staff, so often they can be rude and arrogant...

I am glad that the cashier was there precisely when you needed a pick you up. Realtor business usually is not fun at all. We have some really friendly cashiers here at our Jewel store who always have a bright big smile and have a way of exchanging chat during my shopping trips as well. Probably in chat modes but the smiles do help.

Serendipity?! I find this to happen quite often in my life... I think it is a real blessing when something like that happens.

I appreciate it when things like that happen. It can really make your day. I also try to make their day if I can, because they can have bad days too. Nice to know we are all human.

You would hope that any positive feedback was passed on. When I first worked as a checkout operator, I received positive feedback via state office a couple of times. It was not a big thing (it should have been). If I received negative feedback, it was blown out of proportion even though what I was accused of was just ridiculous (whiners always lie to make their story sound better/worse). When I moved to a regional store, none of the positive feedback I received from customers was passed on to me (the customers told me when they had been in touch with my boss). There was one customer, turns out she was from out of town, who wrote to the local paper commending the friendly helpful service she received from the staff at my workplace, in particular.... and here she named me. There was a big hoo haa in the staff room that day, yet management not only said nothing but I was ignored by them and my hours were cut for the rest of the time I worked there.
I reckon it takes a special person to recognise the good work of checkout staff. Most people just want to run them down

In October of 2005 a gal adopted Rygel's brother. Shortly after that, the store closed down, but she moved to one of the two Walmarts I shop at.
She's always got a smile and asks how I'm doing.
I really want to ask about the cat first, but I always ask after her daughter, because I know the kid is more important than the cat.
I have to say, we've run into the person who adopted Rygel's other brother and his mom took off with him, so we know he's got a great home too.
But seeing her always makes me feel good.
Sometimes I just run into her in the store and we talk.

That was totally sweet of her.....not many would have done that, they would have left you hanging. I went to the bank one day...was in line in the drive up....time came for them to close and when I pulled up they said....sorry....you'll have to come back tomorrow???? Why couldn't they just finish who was in line?

I know what you mean. Sometimes you really need that person who will give you a smile looking at your eyes, some other times you really need a hug.

Wow - she actually backed in for you - what friendly service indeed! I feel much better when people like that enter my day . . . I can't always rely on friend-friends these days. It seems like these random people are closer to me at times. Hope you are feeling much better today!!!

hiya dawn!
hope you are well & in the pink of health
now about your discussion. hmmm....yeah. i really, truely, sincerely believe in that. sometimes somebody just comes along when you're in need. kind of occurs to me quite a bit. i'm not sure if it's something that i'm doing on purpose, or is it because that God is shining his light on me, or the planets are aligned nicely in my favor... but it does give me a good feeling to know that the world isn't really as crazy as some people make it out to be, and that there really are some good & decent people out there that we can count on once in a while

It is nice to see that some people still go out of their way when they see someone needs a little cheering. Sometimes it feels like the world is against you but you just need that one friendly person to feel okay. What I notice here is that the checkers sometimes get annoyed that they are treated like machines, a lot of people don't greet or thank them, so when you actually greet and thank them and sometimes have little chat it actually makes them feel better.

Yes, this has happened to me a lot and still happens. I think of it as a gift - genuine caring human contact from someone is a gift. You will survive and get through this Dawn.

That does sound really sweet of her to do that for you. Its nice to have someone nice to chat with once in a while when you are down in the dumps. I know how some people have cheerful attitudes, it just makes people around them just happy to be with them and make a better service experience.

Yeah, and I think she's just genuinely nice too, not just "being nice to the customers".

You are absolutely right, once in a while we find someone that brightens our day, just by simply being nice, talking with us and doing a nice gesture. The funny part is that it is sometimes a total stranger.
