Illness time in our house.....

I was just looking at the calendar last week and thinking how I hope that we can get through October without either of the kids getting sick. That always seems to be the month when the illnesses start in our family. Sure enough my son has had a sore throat for two days and yesterday when he came home from school he had a headache and fever. So today I kept him home from school and took him to the doctors. He has strep. So unfortunately since my daughter is also prone to getting strep she'll probably be the next one sick. Time to get the Lysol out and spray down the house.

You have to keep the environment(home) clean as much as possible. Does your daughter take any vitamins? She needs one so she can be strong and so that it can boost her immune system. If the doctor has given your son some medicines for his strep, then you better follow what the doctor has prescribed. You have to finish the allotted days that is being prescribed.

That is so true. I do need to keep on top of cleaning the door knobs and light switches more. That would be helpful. Both of my kids take vitamins just about every day. I do make sure that the kids finish the medicine as prescribed by the doctor.

That's right and I think a lot of people tend to forget about cleaning the doorknobs.

Doorknobs are some of the common things where germs can be easily transferred from one person to another. Let them also wash their hands always. Yeah continue to let your kids take their vitamins everyday. Also, let them take their medicines always as prescribed.

My kids don't normally get too sick, but my daughter has allergies that kick her butt this time of year. She is just a bit stuffy right now, but I am sure it will get worse before it gets better. I can hear her breathing in the next room and she sound stuffy. I would not be surprised if she work up asking for her allergy medicine soon.

They eat fairly well and usually they do take vitamins, but we just ran out and I have to get some more.

That's good they eat well. Neither of my kids like milk and not much cheese, so that's a problem with them not getting enough calcium and vitamin D.

You are so lucky that your kids don't get sick much. Do they eat really well for you and take vitamins? I think allergies are becoming more and more common as the years go on.

Well that's too bad! I hope your son is feeling better soon. I know my son used to be prone to that too...but once he got on meds it didn't take long for him to feel better! Hopefully it will be short lived for him...and hope you daughter passes on it this time..one can always hope!

It's a tough time of year for the start of illnesses. Every household goes through it and it will pass. Thanks for your concern.

I think that it is true of most families that this is the time of the year when people start to get sick. The reason that I think that is because of the fact that the weather starts to turn colder and that means that we spend a lot more time indoors than we ordinarily would. Knock on wood we've been lucky here so far that none of us has been sick and I certainly hope that we are able to keep that up for about another month to make sure that Tom's immune system is coming back up after his chemotherapy is over.

I have often wondered in people that live in the warmer states or even islands don't get sick as often as us. I hope that you all are able to avoid the sickies too. Stay well.

Micro germs are the major cause for most of the disease. so we should be conscious in cleanliness in hour home in all aspects.

So true. I think most of the germs are coming from the other kids around each other in school.

We don't have the strep thing going on, but are taking turns with a respiratory infection. I hope everyone gets well soon.

Usually the kids do bring home illness from being in school and inside with other kids so much. I hope they are better fast.

I know it's ashame that the kids seem to catch so much from being in school. That's why I constantly bug mine about washing their hands.

I hate strep. It about killed me one year because we didn't have unsyurance and I put off going to the doctor. I hardly ever get sick but when I do get sick, I am sick!

Too many people put off going to the doctor which is a really bad thing to do. I'm glad that you don't get sick much anymore.

Schools are such hotbeds of infections! I hope your children get well quickly, I remember when my boys would catch something at school and it'd go through the house--leaving me to take care of everyone! Thank God I never caught anything...I hope you avoid it, too!

It's pretty much unavoidable with one kid not getting sick from the other. That's amazing that you never got sick from your kids. You were very lucky.

I know it's hard but if everybody will wash their hands often and if you spray eveything that is touched i think you may have a better chance of keep control of illness. I remember when we had school age children living with us, it was often one illness after another, until I became a monster about hand washing. Moms often get to be the bad guys.

I constantly bug my kids to wash their hands. I always get the "look" from them. But if I don't hear the water run after they have flushed the toilet I tell them to get back in there and wash.

I wonder if something is going around as I know several who have as of lately getting sick. I feel like a head cold is coming my way as I have been a bit congested today. I love Lysol and do spray it on occasion here too. With winter under way I better go and stock up. lol

There is a lot going around right now. It's the time of year. I hope your cold doesn't amount to any more serious. Go stock up on the Lysol.

The reason for that is because of the big change in weather conditions during October. The usual time of the month that is cooled is now filled with heavy rains this is how our environment has been affected by climate change. I have asthma but thankfully its not acting up because I have anti flu injections this April. Thank God for that! My daughter is the one who got sick with pink eye.

I'm sure it does have a lot to do with the weather. Plus it has to do with the kids being closed in at the schools. My kids had pink eye a few years ago too. That's really rough on the kids when they get that.

I guess you didn't read the discussion thoroughly. We aren't talking about children being homesick. We're talking about illnesses.

Aw sorry to hear your son is sick. My daughter I think has an ear infection. I'm going to get her into the doctor Monday. She has a slight fever and says her head and her ear hurts. The school nurse said she couldn't even see her ear drum because there was a wax ball in the way. I tried to see the wax when she got home but it is in too far to see without some tool. I'm hoping we don't get any major illnesses. We usually don't get too much major.(Knock on wood) Strep throat is going around here too. A few in my daughters class had it but so far she hasn't gotten in and it's been a week so I hope she is in the clear.

I hope your daughter feels better. That's why I got my son to the doctor's yesterday because I didn't want him to go the whole weekend without getting checked. Plus I want him to be able to go to school on Monday.
