Hi all!
I love to receive and send text messages. Last night a received a funny text message from a dear friend. I could not resist forwarding it to my other friends.
While forwarding it to others, my handset went dead mid-way. I charged it and when I could re-start it after removing and fixing its battery, I noticed that all my text messages have vanished, to my horror.
I had more than 1000 text messages stored in my mobile handset and not a single message was there in my inbox, folders, sent messages or outboxes.
I guessed that last message which I received was carrying some VIRUS/spy ware etc., and it vanished all my stored messages. Incidentally, I did not have any anti-virus application/software stored in my mobile phone. My questions are ā
(a) Has anything similar happened with you?
(b) Do you have anti virus application stored in your mobile handset?
(c) Which is the best and most affective anti virus for mobile handsets? (I have been using Nokia āEā serious handset)
I shall be thankful to you for sharing your experiences and advice with me.

More than 1000 messages.....I think your mobile got fed up and decided to get some fresh air...
. May be you should show it to Nokia technician. May be everything is inside, but you cannot see it......I never heard about virus effecting mobile phones. Besides, Internet is full of text messages, you can refill it again easily. Only things that you will not get back is romantic replies that your girl friends sent you.......for that I am really sorry..

Hi Apsara!
May be your are right, my mobile handset got fed up and decided to shed some of its weight by making my text messages disappear .........
.
It means mobile handsets also have brains of their own and sometimes they use it to fool us.
I doubt that everything could be inside my phone. The reason is I store my text messages in the 'memory card' not in my 'phone memory', therefore, I was under the impression that my text messages would always remain intact. However, its contrary has happened.
As regards getting fresh messages, no doubt I will get new messages from my dear friends and could again store some good number of messages.
I do not have a girl friend, who could send me any romantic messages.
(so there is no worry on that account).
Thanks for surfacing and joining us after a long time.

Hi Shibam!
Based on my knowledge it appears to me that it was something like a virus which wiped out all my messages at one go.
.
All other data on my handset is intact.
Thanks for providing useful information regarding two sites. I will surely check them at the earliest possible.
What makes you not like sending or receiving text messages?

Don't you feel bored, while tying on mylot ?
You could always 'forward' a message without typing on your mobile.

It must have felt awful! However, I feel that that the messages are there intact but have changed location. Try to connect the phone to the computer and before that find out the phone/ SD card memory in use. That will give you a fair idea if you are still retaining the messages. Try removing the battery, the SIM, the memory card, etc. Reboot and see it it helps or not.
I have been busy something to do with phone as well. Do you have any idea about how to move the messages to the SIM memory?

Hi mimpi!
It was really shocking to lose all my text messages. Some of them were really wonderful and I would read them in leisure.
You may be right that my messages may have got transferred to some other location in the handset. I will connect my mobile handset with PC/Laptop through PC suite and then will see if it is possible to retrieve or locate my lost messages.
I do not want to re-format or reboot the handset because in that case I will lose all other important data and applications. I may add here that all other data is intact, except text messages.
As regards your own problem. I understand there would be two option in a handset:-
(i) SIM memory and Phone memory
and
(ii) Phone Memory and Memory Card (Micro SD Card)
If you are asking for the first one. Then go into the settings (option) of 'Messages' and there would be an options 'others or other settings'.
In the option 'others' you could select the option of SIM Memory or Phone Memory or Memory Card.
Incidentally, I selected the option 'Memory Card' and all my text messages would store in the Memory card of my handset. But it has all vanished. When the handset restarted, I found that settings did not change.
I have an application by which I could block the SMSs from a particular number, I am thinking of using that application for that particular number.
Have a great day!

I never knew one could get a virus through an sms. Through the net connection it was possible. Sad you had to loose all your smses.
And I know they must have been very good ones
. I have more than 2000 smses in my inbox and I too would be sad if I had to loose them. I only delete my messages after I have forwarded them to friends. So to loose so many messages would indeed be very sad. Hope your mobile is fixed soon and you are able to store the messages you get in future.

Hi Mayka!
Nice to see you board.
It was really strange and shocking that all my messages vanished. It could have been some virus or something like that.
You are right some were really very good messages and worth storing forever. Now I have lost them.
All other data on my mobile is safe, except text messages.
Thanks for joining us.

hello dpk,
It's just a message,a message cannot send you a virus.
My mobile phone got virus long time ago since I am using it with internet connection.
I lost all my photo, videos and songs, but all my messages.
I was able to retrieve my messages from "life blog" one of mobile phone's feature like a trash bin, but not only deleted files are saved but also incoming and received files were saved in "life blog".
I was not able to retrieve my photos because i forgot to saved those ones in my sim memory and everything was saved only in "phone memory"
so, when I have my phone reformatted...i lost all my photos and songs
I am not sure what happened to your messages, just try to check other features of your phone.
Maybe there are features where it can be saved and you will be able to retrieved those messages.
have a good day

I am wondering how many text messages you could store in your SIM CARD?
BTW what is a lifeblog, I do not have any idea about it.
I do not have mobile software with me, therefore, it may not be possible for me to reformat my mobile.

My phone also doesn't has a memory card but a built in memory 8GB.
But I set my messages to be saved in my sim memory (sim card)and also saved in my lifeblog.
Actually I reformatted my phone myself, you can do it using your laptop dear if you have the mobile phone software with you, just installed it and do it yourself.

i don't know why your phone did this - however i do know some phones have an automatic built in system, that if the phone reaches capicity, it deletes all the text memory to re-new itself. did you look it up in the phone manual??

It would be better if you could get an anti virus application for your mobile. Anti virus will keep your mobile safer and your data intact.
Thanks for sharing.

May be your handset is not displaying those messages. If you have PC connectivity, try to check the messages via PC suite. Few days back, my friend has also thought he lost all his messages, but when he connected his mobile via Bluetooth with a PC suite, all his messages were there. He immediately created a backup on his PC. Try it. It may work for you too.
I don't know what his model was, but it was a thin black Nokia.

Thanks for your valuable suggestion and for kick starting the post.

It might be a kind of virus.
Yes, there are anti-virus applications for mobile phones too, specially for those, which are used for net surfing and downloading.

Hello Dee! That sounds really awful. Don't have any idea what have caused your phone to crash since i'm using an entirely different phone and so far i haven't experience that before.
I'm using avg anti-virus but that's for my android phone. Not sure if it has one on yours. My blackberry doesn't have an antivirus and i don't think i'll be needing one from that phone and iphone too.

I know you use android based phone and mine is different from yours. So anti virus which you use, may not work for me. Blackberry phones, I understand, do not get affected by virus as such.
Thanks for joining.

Hi,
Its good to know that you had a collection of good SMS but sad that u lost them all. Did you try using your sim /memory card with another handset? I think since it is stored in memory card, you should be able to retrieve them through laptop / other handset. But if you use the 'restore factory setting' option, then everything including your numbers saved in mobile memory can be washed off so we should remove the sim and the card before choosing this option.

Hi viju!
I love sending and receiving SMSs and I had good collection of SMSs, which I lost due to unknown reasons.
I did not try to use either my memory card or SIM with another handset.
I have not yet tried to connect my handset with PC through PC Suite. Let us see if it could be of any help in retrieving my SMSs.
All other data is intact in the handset, therefore, am not going to reboot it.
Thanks for the inputs.

But I haven't loaded any antivirus yet . Have you done that ? Let me know if so . Thanks for the discussion , I have gathered a lot of information. Good luck :-)

I have never heard this before and no it has never happened to me. A couple months ago I upgraded to an iPhone but I was a long time blackberry user of a great many models and can say that for years all my messages have been stored with no issues and or vanishing acts. lol
I have no idea how that could have occurred and not sure about it being a virus, you might want to call your carrier and ask, just to be sure. I have never had a virus protector on any of my phones and I have been a data phone user for many years. I surf the net with it and not to jinx myself have never had any virus and or malaware issues with them.
I say call the carrier as maybe your software needs updating. This I have done numerously but have been able to update right from my PC to phone and over the air upgrades too. Simply taking a guess as I have never experienced this.

It is nice to hear that you did not face this kind of problem.
I understand that Blackberry phones and iphone are well equipped to handle this sort of problem. I am not using either.
If I reboot my handset, I will use all other data and I will have to store all the data again. Incidentally, all other data is safe in my handset.
