The cheap Chinese lighter took life of a girl

A girl in my city was killed because of an explosion from the cheap Chinese lighter she was using to light incense sticks during worship and morning prayers. It was learnt that this lighter was defective and needed several attempts to ignite the gas from nozzle. There might have been accumulation of the gas in the room, this mixed with air formed an explosive mixture. The market is flooded with cheap Chinese stuff; people buy them and suffer like this. It is always advisable to use genuine products, though little costly, but safe. Do you use such cheap gadgets? Please share your views and comment on this story. Thanks in advance. My empathy goes out to the family, and I know how terrible this must be for them, but sadly, you have to be careful with products that you buy from other places because you never know what you might be getting. I found out the hard way a few times.

When it comes to disposable lighters, I prefer the French made " cricket " brand , it's about 5 to 6 times more expensive than the Chinese copy here but lasts for a very long time and the roller wheel does not fall off. Cheap copies will fail to light even if it has still plenty of fluid inside and worse might explode because of the cheap, thin and brittle plastic casing. I buy only the cheap lighter with a led flashlightto sometimes put in my bag.

Wow that is really sad. How old was the girl? I guess at least a little older or she wouldn't have been using a lighter. I usually don't buy cheap stuff because in the end it just breaks right away. At least in paying for the genuine product is costs more but it last longer most the time.

Hello Professor. I have heard that cheap Chinese lighters can be very dangerous indeed. I wonder how it can be sold when people know just how dangerous it can be. It can start a fire or explode in a person's face. I think that using a match box would be safer. A little thing with gas in it will always be quite dangerous. I think it is terrible the girl was killed by the cheap Chinese lighter. Governments should not have anymore cheap Chinese lighters sold anymore.

Dear max Here too if government is serious, selling of cheap stuff can be prevented, but corrupt officials collect money from the vendors. Thanks for sharing Have a nice day ahead. Professor ‘@Bhuwan@’. .

I have heard of this happening before. I think they should recall these lighters. My daughter uses them all the time and has never had a mishap. Although I wonder if the ones she gets is a step above these really cheap ones. I hope so. I can't imagine something like this happening to her.

Your daughter is certainly lucky. There is no chance of recalling the cheap stuff that comes via grey channel, no cash memo, no gurantee or warranty. Thanks Enjoy life to fullest. Professor ‘*^Bhuwan^*’. .

I do purchase lower quality items most of the time - because they are less expensive than other items. It is a shame that this young lady was killed because someone needed to save money.

First of all, I have to say that you inspired me to check and see where my lighter was made, and it was made in the USA. As far as things that are made in China and are cheap, this tends to be something that I try to shy away from because of the fact that there have been so many recalls of such items in the past several years. However, some of these items do find their way into my house.

It is really sad that a little girl has to die cause of a cheap lighter. The world market is flooded by the cheap chinese products and the government doesn't have any provisions to check the quality of the product and even if there are provisions they are not followed. The same old story but it is terrible for her parents and i can sympathize with them.

Poor girl. This is such an awful story. I do, as a matter of fact use cheap gadgets but never on things I almost use everyday- only the ones which is to be used for one time. Lighters, cellphones and flashlights are some of the ones I always save money on because they're more useful in the long run. My mom is the type who likes hording and I'm already fed up of cheap stuff filling our house which we cannot trust. Thank you for sharing this news.

oh,i'm sorry to hear that.Generally speaking,it is common for us to buy stuff which is at reasonable price, but when you decide to buy something, you should carefully choose.it's great if the price is cheap, but the quality may not good,so think twice before you buy it. last,i hope the producer should be responsible for the costomers.

as a matter of fact we have a lot of china made products in our house and they are all disposables. Like my cellphone that i bought with a very cheap price, after two months of use it doesnt work anymore. Toys that are made in china were found with high levels of lead that are possible carcinogens.

Hello, welcome to mylot Thanks for sharing your opinion. Cellphone are risky too, one should avoid the cheap one, there are cases of explosion during charging, a Nokia original battery cost 6 times than the cheap chinese stuff. Have a nice day ahead. Professor ‘@Bhuwan@’. .
