I was never allergic to dust before but ever since I became allergic to some foods (like crabs, shrimp and chicken), I became allergic to dust, too.
When I sweep the floor or clean my room without covering my mouth and nose, I will be sneezing terribly most of the time. Just like now, I swept the floor and did not cover my mouth and nose. And after a while, I started to sneeze uncontrollably. After the sneezes, my eyes are all watery and I've got a runny nose and I would still sneeze after some time. It's really terrible.

I do have dust allergy so whenever I sweep floor or clean around the house I always make sure I have cover on my mouth and nose or else I surely will start sneezing which will later lead to headache if I don't do anything to counteract the allergy. Allergic rhinitis has been bothering me whenever I get exposed to dust or whenever I eat too much sweets but I was able to counteract that by taking at least two tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar in a glass of water everyday or as much as necessary. This has been helping me a lot.

Vinegar so it's sour? And you can drink it?
But that's good for you, at least you have a home remedy.

Maybe I'll try that, too if I'm able to find an apple cider vinegar.

we got the same problem too...
i have no allergy when eating crabs and shrimps, but now, whenever i eat those, i suffer asthma immediately....
especially those yellow sweet fats of crabs found on its back are the number one triggers of allergy compare to the ones inside the crabs arms....
i have a problem regarding Allergic Rhinitis....

You should avoid eating crabs! Allergic rhinitis is dangerous. I have suffered shortness in breathing because of my allergies.

You're lucky you have an air conditioning unit in your room.

i already starting to avoid eating my ultimate favorite seafoods, it is supposed to be my favorite wow, bad luck for me now....
Allergic Rhinitis usually leads to Asthma and you're feeling like drowning without water around.... too bad...
i just switch-on the airconditioner to make my room very cool so that to alleviate my asthma sufferings.... and it works....
and promise to myself again not to each crabs hahaha

Whether it is an allergy or just an irritation it is miserable I am sure. Some people get this way from smelling pepper or other spices as well. You can wear a dusk mask while you sweep and it will help you.

Sneezing does feel good, especially when I sneeze hard as if my lungs would come out.
What I don't like is if it happens uncontrollably as if there's no end to it. And it's always accompanied by watery and itchy eyes which I hate.

I don't think dampening the broom would work, drannhh. I mean, the broom I use will not be able to clean the floor if it's damp. It will only spread the dust.

Oh once I got this real bad dust allergy. I was I dunno maybe in in the 7th grade and it was so bad. I couldn't even play in the ground with my friends coz i would be sneezing and coughing and catch a cold and stuffs like that. Glad all the crazy stuffs have gone now. It was temporary and I am glad, I hope your allergies are temporary too. And you are allergic to chicken and shrimp??
I would be so heart broken if I couldn't have them. I hope you get well soon.

They say my allergies will go away eventually and they say it would help if I continue to eat those kinds of foods. But I don't risk it because first of all, it's really uncomfortable when I have allergy attacks, and during severe attacks, I get swollen eyes and difficulty in breathing. I guess what they're saying is just true for young people who are still able developing their immune system and not to people who have reached certain age.

Oh, I have already given up, I mean, I am not hoping anymore that my allergies would go away.

I actually had allergy to orange juice once. I thought it was a coincidence but after it got repeated again and again, I came to know the sickness I got was coz of the orange juice so i stopped drinking orange juice. About sometime later when I drank it again, the allergy had gone and I can comfortably drink orange juice now.
I hope your allergies goes away with time too!

sounds as though you should be doing "Damp dusting" to keep the dust down in the air.and not brushing the floor but vacuuming with a HEPA spec filter on your cleaner...

Dear friend,
Dust is allergic for me at times, but sneezing rarely occurred I feel irritating and starting coughing. But if eyes gets watery I feel it would be better to avoid such things or if there is no other way I hope it would be better to keep something that safeguards all these. Hope you are fine now.....

I usually counter it by taking a bath or washing my face.

Sounds like you'll need to use a bandana over your nose and mouth when you sweep. You'll look like a robber!

Try taking antihistamines for that. I think it will help.
My sister is very allergic to dust too. She can get away from doing some housework, plus she's the youngest, so grrr...
hehe. That's okay though. She still helped me tidy up my room from time to time even though it gave her the sniffles. She stayed there most of the time anyways watching tv, while I work 6 days a week, so
Sometimes though even if it wasn't dusty at all! Even just a touch to her nose would send her on a sneezing racket.
How could food be connected to dust allergy? I get allergic reactions to some shellfishes as well.

I used to take benadryl and alerta but I don't think it work for me. I'm still looking for other antihistamine that will work best to me.
I'm the same with your sister! Sometimes, even if there's no dust I would start to sneeze uncontrollably without a clue why.
I think when I started having food allergies, it increased my sensitivity or probably decreased my immune response to allergens so I got allergic to dusts, too which are one of the most common allergens inside a household. ^^

my wife as asthma and it triggers with dust. so she really cleans the house as often as she could so there wont be too much dust building up the house. she also changes the curtains weekly. pollen also triggers her asthma so we dont really buy flowers except for sampaguita that we put on the altar and some flowers who has no fragrant. i guess you need to go to a doctor for check. so you will know what to do in case it triggers.

That can be a pain when allergies sneak up on you when you never had them before. Apparently that can happen to anyone at any time in our lives. Dust bothers me sometimes too but it has to be something that is really dusty to get me sneezing. You might want to look into wearing one of those paper face masks that covers your mouth and nose when you clean or sweep. I would think that would help a lot.

Dusting the house, cooking ,washing, sweeping the floor are can cause sneezing.
As if we are wet the cold or wet clothes can cause us to sneeze and even get cold.If we are dusting the house then the dust can not be resisted by the nose then it tries to throw off the dust which entered into the nose in form of sneezing.

Ya it's quiet natural some are allergic to dust by birth or they will get it later on. so it's better you take precautions before you sweep. i know how you are suffering. Because mom is so allergic to dust. So be careful while you are sweeping. Prevention is better than cure

Be careful then. So maybe dogs and cats can cause you asthma too. Dont be in the road without covering your nose. Be careful.

Yes, i'm never allergic to dust till the past 2 years or so. Somehow or other, i will sneeze uncontrollably, with my nose running badly as if i'm having flu.. lol :D What makes it worse is that there's no medicine to cure it
BUt i notice, so long i'm out of the house, my 'allergy' would be much better, and the moment i'm in the house again, the moment i start sneezing, my nose would start running again.. lol
It usually takes days for me to fully recover and i hate that.. hehe

Yes, also dusting your furniture can cause the same symptoms. Any time you move the dust and dirt around it can affect you. Perhaps since it affects you like that, you could wear a dust mask?

If I'm doing a general cleaning, I do wear a mask. But for everyday floor sweeping, I don't wear one. And I think that's where my mistake is because no matter how short or long the time I am exposed to the dust, the same allergic reactions will happen to me.

I wish my mother would be sensitive of my condition, too and understand if I don't help in cleaning the whole house.
Ooh, you better avoid those foods! Allergy is a scary sickness.

You're lucky you have someone to do it for you. I'm the only one who can clean my room nicely. Sometimes I also use wet cloth to remove the dusts on the floor and on the furniture and all, but I still get allergic.
