I moved to Puerto Rico over a year ago and I'm loving the organic fruits and veggies that are growing in our yard. We have bananas, plaintans, breadfruits, starfruits, mangos, avocadoes, green bananas, hot peppers, eggplants, cherry tomatoes. We just planted four pineapples trees, and four regular tomatoe plants. We have oranges, grapefruits and lemon trees but they have not bloomed yet. All the veggies and fruits taste so much better then what you buy in the store. Here in Puerto Rico I'm so surprised how much the younger generations are not planting their own fruits and veggies. In generations to come no one here will be growing their own stuff and I think its such a shame. There is nothing better then eating a plate of food for dinner with everything from the backyard. It all taste better and its so healthy. I attached a picture that I hope you can see. This was one day of harvesting. Avocados, mango, gandules beans and there were 4 cherry tomatoes but it didn't make in the picture because they ended up in our mouths. Do you grow your own fruits and veggies and if so what do you grow?

Organic fruits and veggies are grown without chemicals. Where as the stuff you buy at the stores unless it says organic it has added chemicals and other unhealthy things added to keep it fresh longer. Due to the chemicals it does not taste and is not as healthy as the stuff you grow in your own backyard .

Okay so Organic fruits and veggies are grown without any artificial products and no using of any chemicals . However no one these days are doing so ,in the agriculture sector. In the backyard if we try growing somehting like that we need that organic material also, may be we dont need bathrooms then ,however we need a vast place ,not like a home with a compound wall. And in many villages there are people who do not have bathrooms also, they just go out.I can see that in my place . So may be like that the organic material is made. Nature has its own way of getting the soil again in to a best soil as to make it used for cultivation. The mud should be able to give the right substances for the plant to grow healthy. It is not that hard to cultivate any plant or any sort of cultivation. Some times the worms do spoil the plants which grow.At that time we need some neam leavespowder or something like that whihc can keep away the spoiling worms from the plants. We need water a lot, right sunlight and we should take off the weeds so that the plant gets everything it needs.

It is great to grow your own fruits and veggies, you are making my mouth water. I grow my veggies, no fruit yet. I live in Texas DFW area we had a harsh dry summer, it was hard keeping the veggies alive. Now that it is beginning to be fall the veggies is beginning to grow. I have some tomatoes, summer squash, hot peppers, okra, cucumbers, and flowers. All the other I planted did not survive, like mustard greens, I will be replanting soon for the winter garden. I wish the climate was like that here in Texas as in Puerto Rico. People need to plant more to keep the pollution down and for better health, oh yeah we have pecan trees. I want to plant some pear and fig trees too.

That is great expecially living in Texas. When I was living in New Mexico for three years I couldn't get anything to grow. A fig tree sounds great its giving me some ideas.

It would be wonderful to have so much organic fruit and vegeatbles. Not only is it free for you, but incredibly healthy too. The amount of anti-oxidants your produce would be giving you woukld far exceed what the fast fooder eaters get. At my last house I had seven fruit trees, but no vegetables. We moved to this house three months ago, at this wednesday I am planting my first tomato, capsicum and herb crop.

I did not grow anything in my garden this year, I just wasn't motivated. Looking back, I'm sure it was because I was depressed because I lost my mother. But I usually do, I prefer what I grow myself to what I buy in the store. I grew up eating beef, pork and poultry and vegetables from my grandparents' farms and they were SO much better than what we have today. No chemicals, no hormones. So yes, I grow everything I can with the exception of this year. It tastes better and it's better for my body. The organic stuff in the grocery is just too expensive and I won't buy it but I'll grow my own. And next summer I'll learn to can so I can save some for the fall, winter and spring.

Sorry about the loss of your mom and I understand not being motivated due to that. Yes the organic in the stores are way to much that is why we are growing everything that we possible can. Good luck on your garden next year.

I'm so happy to hear that. We also have guava and we did have coconut but the tree ended up rotting so we had it cut down. Enjoy!

We grow some things. Our best crops this year were hot peppers of all kinds and cherries very early on the cherry tree. Home grown food does taste the best.

Yum,yum, yum!!! I love fruit and vegetables, but have a shorter growing season, only from May to September, so I can only grow things like tomatoes, and beans, but nothing like mangoes and bananas...That would be awesome..

How lucky u are to have the opportunity to have all that in your yard. I would love that. I don't grow anything. My aunt told me years ago i had a brown thumb instead of a green one, lol.Young people don't take advantage of something like u have.Easy come, easy go to them w/everything.

I think everyone has a green thumb if they put their minds to it. Its not rocket science. I would have done everything in my power to prove my aunt wrong if she had said that to me. I agree with you about the young people of today.
