Can you live without a Kitchen? Means without preparing food!!!!!!

Dear friends, I confess, this is another topic I got it from a debate (I started topics earlier too by watching debate). The topic was, ‘what to eat, what not to eat’. I am not discussing all those things here (it was about the dangers on following a tasty food as they are adding different things to increase the taste and it is not good for health etc). One thing I felt interested, a participant who said that we don’t need a kitchen to live and we don’t want to prepare any food. According to his menu, sprouts, fruits, coconut, pepper, fruits, salt etc are included and all those things don’t to want to cook. He revealed that he is following this menu. It is a surprise for me, major percentage of people would like to examine different methods of cooking to enjoy the good taste and this particular person and his wife follow a diet based completely on health benefits. Can you follow a diet completely on health benefits and sacrifice those tasty foods? Please share you views. October 31, 2011.

Well, I can hardly imagine that! For me, good taste is a very important aspect when I am having a meal. Most of the time, I would take account of the taste of foods before the health benefits. And I don't see anything wrong of it. If I am going to eat things completely on health benefits, I think I am going to hate eating in just a few days. It's totally practical that we can keep the nutrients of food without sacrificing their good taste. That depends on how we cook them. If handled properly, food can be delicious as well as healthy. And at the same time, cooking itself is a pleasure. Life would be dull if there is no pleasure of eating and cooking. After all, life is a thing to be enjoyed, I wouldn't do anything to destroy my life. Making yourselves content is the most important.

Hi aquacan, Well said. I too can’t think such a way of life. I completely agree with you, we should enjoy our life and we can have at least the favourite food in our life. It does not mean that we have to eat all those junks, we can prepare nutritious food without harming our health. A life without kitchen is unthinkable for me. Thank you so much for your response.

Hi didi I see that soon the bird in that avatar will be without GRASS That guy mentioned those only for the sake of the discussion. No one can live without those tasty yummy dishes... Either he is Baba Ramdev or a Scam. Do you really believe such a guy who has never tasted those street side foods? Even I was without kitchen eating all the food only from Restaurants, roadside hotels and Thelas(vendors who sell food on trolleys) and never needed a Kitchen. he does exactly that

Hello Sidhu, Lol, You mean, I am going to eat all those grass..no way dear, I can’t follow such a life style at any cost. He is an aged man (must be in his 60s) and he said he is following this life for sometime now. I think he must be enjoyed enough tasty food in his life.

Poor man. He never had parents nor did he ever get married... If he had any of these (parents or wife) I am sure he would have tasted those "delicious treats" at least once and would never have skipped all of these... Or, is he seriously ill? Because it is the ill (like me) who cannot have a feast of any of these

Hi friends, If he's aged around 60s, he might have been advised by his doctors to add on the non-cooked items such as sprouts and nuts, salads or fruits due to his other health reasons..... but at heart he would definitely be missing those delicious cooked food as well....

Personally I could not imagine not having a kitchen. When we travel and have to stay in a hotel room, we usually try to get one with a Microwave and a Refridgerator in it if possible so that we can save a little from having to go out to eat all the time. I have lived in places though in the past with not much of a kitchen and it was not fun. If I was rich I would eat out all the time, but since I'm not a kitchen is a much needed source.

I am a homely person who likes to experiment on new recipes and my kitchen is my paradise. A house, no matter how beautiful it is, is not complete without a kitchen. My new house has a dry and wet kitchen in the original plan given by the developers. I have to do away with two kitchens and renovated my house with only one kitchen where I can do all my cooking and baking. I am a strong advocate of healthy eating but at the same time I want my foods to be tasty and appetizing. I do not believe in leaving out some ingredients in the name of healthy diet. Home-cooked foods are always the preferred choice as we put in the best and freshers ingredients for our family.

Hello zandi, I think major percentage of votes will come in favour of you. Cooking is a part of our life and can’t be avoided from our daily activities except on special days (we can go out for having food on special days, if we wish so). Otherwise kitchen is the soul of the house Hello gr8, You are not using your kitchen but having food from outside, is it.

@gr8jordan Having a kitchen without smoke emitting from the chimney is nothing more than a showroom for expensive kitchen cabinets and all the beautiful china sets. What a waste when you don't make use of the fine settings of a kitchen. Cooking is not that difficult. Put pieces of meat and veggies in a pot and cook it on the stove to make a simple meat stew. So simple yet so nutritious for all the family to enjoy.

well, not all people like to cook, so for those who does not want to cook I guess they can always purchase from outside or eat raw foods or try something else which does not require the to cook. Lke myself, I can eat all those healthy uncooked food as long as they were prepared for me... I do not need or want to experience on my foods. SO I guess I am in the club of people who can live without a kitchen...

Hello Sreekala, Hope you are doing good. At this point of life and with the type of lifestyle I (we) are living, I (we) cannot imaging living without a kitchen. It is a part of house and one can live without even toilets, but not without a kitchen. Yes, long back ago, in my own village we had had kitchen but not the toilets. Every home was like that at that time, but now all of them have toilets too. So, we can live without toilets, but not without kitchen. It is good to follow a diet schedule and eat healthy good food, but that too needs instruments like knife, plates, bowl, etc. which needs to be placed in Kitchen. I healthy food like boiled eggs, boiled rice, boiled vegetable or anything is in my diet, then also I need to boil it which can be done only in the kitchen where I have my gas stove and other kitchen equipments. So, I cannot imagine life without kitchen.

Hello nishant, I am fine and thank you for asking. Hope you too good. If you can follow a diet without cooking food then why you need a kitchen. I agree Kitchen is the soul of our house and we just can't imagine the same. Earlier in my Village there was no gas stoves instead they used fire wood for cooking. There was a belief among old members, if you are attending any function in nearby house and don’t want to prepare any food, then also they prefer to prepare some rice and the purpose is, they felt that otherwise the kitchen will be starving and it is not good for the well being of the members who stayed in. Do I need to explain more to show the importance of kitchen in a house.
@nishant5n (1067)

No, you don't need to explain it anymore as I am in full agreement and believe that kitchen is an essential part of the home. Even if we are not cooking our food, we need a place to place our knives, spoons, plates, glasses, bowls, mixer, juicer, refrigerator, etc. and that place will automatically be called a "kitchen." So whether we cook our food or not, we cannot remove kitchen from our house.

Hi Sree! It is really very difficult for us (read me) to live without home cooked food. I need it to survive. Simple meal of chapati and lentils/pulses and some cooked vegetable are suffice for me. I just cannot survive merely eating sprouts, fruits, coconut, pepper and fruits etc. I think those who could survive are special category of people or may they are too lazy to cook. Have a nice evening.

I love home cooked food and would never close my kitchen for anything in the world. It is only when guests arrive unexpectedly that I would order from out. If guests give us sufficient notice it is a joy to try out various dishes. I love cooking provided there is someone to help me with the chopping and cleaning.

I think you will gain some weight at least (as you are underweight now) However, there is a possibility, if you don’t visit the kitchen you hubby may get angry. So you don’t need to close your kitchen, make tasty food for your dear hubby and sweet daughters.

For me, I always need a kitchen. To cook water, because I need hot water to make a hot milk or coffee. To boil some eggs, to saute some vegetables, to cook some soup. But for some people, just like my friend who lives in Germany, maybe they will not need any kitchen. He only eats raw vegetables and raw fruit. For hot water, I think they will use water dispenser. In my opinion, the vegetables is not healthy to be eaten raw. For example, white vegetable (in Chinese name: Pek Cay). It contains a cold energy. Must be cook together with ginger, due ginger brings hot/warm energy to improve your blood circulation. Another example, for woman who just deliver baby, she will need some food contains lots of herbs to stop the bleeding and restore her stamina. And this kind of food need to be boiled for a long time. So...I can"t believe if people says they do not need any kitchen. And I do not believe eating raw food is healthy and tasty.

Hiya sreekala, Really hard to live without a Kitchen as we know it especially when it comes to having to cook Food. I really don´t see most People following a Diet like that one not that it is a bad one but it would not be my ideal one for a start. I have lived with two or three very bad kitchens that were in very bad state but I had to manage to live with them and make the best of them. One for example only had one cold tap and I had to borrow Gas Tanks from other People to be able to use one of those old Gas Cooker portable ones you know with Rings from before. But I was so thankful that I had what I had as there was nothing else and I put up with that for three years. I did not have a Washer or a Fridge in that Kitchen but I did produce some very good Food and also it did not have any outside Windows only two very old Windows that overlooked an interior Patio of a House. If the Gas Board had caught me using that kind of Gas they would not have given me a Contract you see but I was very careful to open the Windows and the Door and I could not cook things that took a long time to make either. I had to wash all things by hand and I had my first Son very small so you can imagine. Most times the Water Pipe burst and left me without Water for the Weekend lol. Thank goodness I had his Mother´s House to be able to go and have a Wash in the Clothes had to wait till Monday or Tuesday of the next week of course and also the pressure of the Tap was very poor too.xxx

Thank you so much. Regarding the topic, I know how it is difficult to handle without proper things in kitchen when you have small baby at home. Thank God all those days are gone and you are in a better position now. I too have limitations in my kitchen which is very small but adjusting with the limited space (lol). Once gain thank you my dear friend. Hope your family is doing fine. Regards to all.

Hiya sreekala, Well I enjoy communicating on here yes and to you as well a lot I do try to keep up but it is quite difficult to be able to sit on here when everyone else wants to be on here at the same time looking at their favourite Football Team and so on. I don´t get much of a look in I have to shove them out of the way be a bit bossy otherwise I would get nothing done at all lol. Sorry to hear your Kitchen is so small then the one I have got at the moment is small too and I am having to manage sort of juggle everything around but you know you are right you have to feed your Children too and well your Husband and yourself and it can get to be a challenge to try and fit everything in at the same time. I find myself having to bring plates into the Dining Room before time and put them on a Table I have here but it´s not the best thing to do really. Oh when I lived there I had to reinvent myself all the time too I would not care much for going back to that kind of Kitchen but I was very proud of my efforts while I was there how else could I be? We are looking for somewhere else to live but it can take a long time I think at the moment not so easy as it seems but I am moving from here first chance. You see this Kitchen has no drawers in it either so it can get to be quite dicey as to where I put the plates and things like knives and forks.xxx Many thanks to you too my Friend and I hope you all have a great Week ahead. Love to your Children.xxx

My dear, I think I can't live without a kitchen, if I were to only have sprouts, fruits, coconut, salt and pepper, I don't think I can survive with that, at least my son cannot live with that. He doesn't like vegetable especially when it is raw. It is hard to get him to eat vege unless it is really cooked and soften. It is really rare people who can really live just depend on those few foods without cooking. At least cooked food is more healthy and free of bacterias. If a person said he doesn't need a cooked food, I probably think that he do not know to enjoy life and he will miss a lot of nice cooked foods. At least it is true for me that I enjoy cooked foods very much.

Maybe they are enjoying salads to follow strict dieting. When you say not preparing it means like nuts that go directly to the mouth. However, with fruits you can dip into salts then take it as is and there are those that also add pepper to salts to make it even spicy to use as dipping. We have differences when it comes to likes and dislikes. They want their food raw maybe to be sure that the vitamins and nutrients are not destroyed which happens in cooking. Also depending on our own culture how we prepare our foods. But for me, I love to follow real sumptuous dishes which happens only in following cooking recipes. And when I want fresh then it is my favorite salad.

i don't like cooking much, though i don't mind if someone else does it, but as, at the moment, no one else does, i try to minimise cooking as much as i can. so i tend to eat a lot of fruit, but i actually like it, i don't think a healthy diet need involve giving up tasty foods, there are a lot of very nice tasting spices that are also very healthy. it seems like this was a very polarised debate, as it is easy, if you do your own cooking to have a healthy diet with a lot of tasty foods, from natural flavourings.

I share the opinion. If you just eat fruit, all kinds of you are very healthy and you don't have a lack of anyting. You won't feel the need to eat candies/sweet stuff, you are surely not fat. Those tasty foods you mention are just additives, stuff added to the (fast) food so you will keep eating it. It's nothing your body really needs. And fact is that if you do eat healthy you won't long for it anymore eiether. So no you don't need a kitchen to cook (most things/kind of food cooked in kitchen is not healthy anyway). Nevertheless I still would make me a hot tea or so once in a while so I would like to have something to heat it on. I think many people with very large/expensive kitchens are seldom using it for real cooking. It's more like a showroom.

Hello wakkeupkitty, You got the point correctly, that is the real idea behind the opinion of this man. When people discussed about the unnecessary items in the food he opined that we don't need a kitchen to live even we can live without a kitchen, There were lot of interruptions especially from women participants, ‘then how can we live, without food’ etc. then he explained what he follow on this menu everyday. If we prepare something simply at home won’t harm our health anyway. But now people are using ready made ingredients and all those have some addictives. In this situation his point is valuable.

Oh my god. It's very difficult to follow uncooked diet. But if we take till the limit it won't cause any problems. And more over body needs some oils for healthiness. It's good we include good food to our diet but no need to eliminate cooking . Anything that in limited quantities won't harm.
