So Dearra came home in a bad mood today. First there was the motivational assembly they had, in which they talked about abusive families, and some real cases. Ok I can see the point, but motivational? Then there was an incident in PE. One of the unpopular boys got his wind knocked out of him while they were playing La Crosse, and she overheard some of the popular boys making fun of him. One of them even said that he would have kicked him while he was down if he could have. Well, she kept it inside and didn't go off on the idiots, but we certainly heard all about it when she got home. She was wondering what the heck these people's parents were doing to have raised a boy who had such awful values. She nailed it!

Alot of kids don't grow up with values now days. I am pro-multiple generational family untis. By that I mean that when I was young I grew up with my grandparents very much in my life. I think it is good to have old fashioned values in a childs formative years. So many single families now days and parents who just aren't involved in their childs lives. No communication. No effection. Very sad.

THey taught me old fashioned values. I have taught my grandson manners and things I think he wouldn't get if I wasn't here.

That's my girl! 14 going on 35. An old soul! The answer is that the parents Are not raising the kids at all. Both work and the kid is raising himself. He thinks being smaller means weaker and he will soon learn. Or not . He may just bully himself into a jail cell. Tell Ms. D I'm proud of her.

Your daughter sounds like a wonderful person, and she is right, it is all about the parents.. Remember the Willy Wonka movie and how the one girl was a total brat? Who was to blame but the mom and dad!!!

True, Violet was also a brat, but it was the other one where they pointed it out. I think Violet's problem was greed.

Haven't you heard, Dawn? This is the new norm with this generation in how they think in this society. I suppose this means it is cool and I'd rather take the heat being uncool. Now, where is my drink with an umbrella in it?

SHe did nail it. I often wonder the same thing myself. It's like the bullying...they contact the parents. Don't they care enough to do anything?

I wonder... In her Jr. High bullying issue, the parents didn't seem to even believe their children were doing it.

Well, they were not teaching him how to treat people that's for sure! These kids don't get this way overnight. I don't understand it. I can't imagine any one of my kids treating someone so cruelly. One thing you can be proud of is that Dearra has compassion. And why is it that the bullies always get to be the "popular" kids? It's always been that way. I know as a kid, I always took the side of the underdog. The kid getting picked on would be the kid I had lunch with or invited home after school. It made me even more unpopular than I probably would have been anyway.

OMG...that is too true! Just on a local level, I can see that. Some of the cops here are people I knew in school and yes...bullies with big attitudes and swollen egos. One that went on to work in his dad's law firm is currently being brought up on charges for a fire he is suspected of starting in the 80's in which an entire family perished. His ex was in the building and he was angry at her as she was with someone else. I don't know if he did or did not do it as it is still in the courts. IT's getting brought up again now because people that were intimidated by him back then when we were all real young...no longer are.

You really are raising a wonderful young woman. You should be very proud of her. My son currently the target of one girl in his classes ridicule because he stuck up for another girl in his class. She now adds him to her daily list of kids to give a hard time. Fortunately the best she can come up with is calling him a "stupid white boy...thinking you got manners."

I was like that in my teenage years.. i used to hate it when i hear people make nasty comments but won't take it out on them - or else i would have been expelled so i would go home grumpy and all and complain about it to my parents..but i guess parents and people in general aren't alike..people think differently. Good for you Dearra is maturing and thinking right and knows what a good value should be.. i hope my kids will turn out that well as well.

I doubt there's much anybody could really do when it's just talk like that anyway. If they'd really done something, I would have gone with her and talked to the principal.

You raised a smart kid in your Dearra! Good for her! I wish more kids would be raised like Dearra and the twins! Some parents just don't care what types of values they teach their kids! Good or bad! Especially bad! It is a shame! I see it all the time at work with college students! I feel sorry for the kids they have in the future!

You raised her great Dawny. I just wonder what would have happened if she really took that boy on for his crappy comment? I can see it now. " Girl beats the crap out of boy, while teaching him manners." Just imagine.

I would have to agree with you. I just don't understand how parents can raise their children to think it's ok to tease and physically hurt people. I guess it's a good thing she kept a level head until she got home. Who knows what those idiots would of said or done. I think someone needs to talk to those boys and set them straight. Best Wishes!

Peer pressure causes a lot of this type of behavior. They are trying to look and be cool and that usually means putting someone else down as a comparison to themselves. Bravo for your daughter! Maybe next time she will feel she can express what she feels. She's a winner.
