Were you stuck at a kids table during holidays as a kid?

I know a lot of kids get relegated to a kids table during holidays. For the most part I never really did. Thanksgiving and Christmas day were always at my grandmothers and she had a main large area in her basement where she would have several round tables set up, it kind of resembled a restaurant, so you could pick a table and eat where ever you wanted. Christmas Eve was at my Grandfathers house and for many years there was one big huge table set up also in the basement where everyone could fit. Then after my grandmother died and my grandfather started getting older the food was set up in the kitchen and you would just grab a plate and either sit at the kitchen table or somewhere in the living room. So did you get stuck at the kids table during holidays or were there other arrangements?

I kind of think that the kid table is a nice idea adults can have their own conversations

We used to get stuck at a kids room when we used to visit my Nanna'a regardless of the time of the year. Adults would sit in one room with food and chatting, children would be another room with food to play. I think this is so wrong and hated it so much. If we have friends around I make sure we all share the same table and food. I try to sit everyone round the table so that the children get adults and children to talk to, after the meal the children can go off and do there thing together while us adults chat. Meal time is for everyone to share. Sorry but I do have a bee in my bonnent about this subject

I never got stuck at the kids table. I was the only kid so I would of been sitting all alone then.

As a kid, I was pretty much stuck at the kids' table. It's sort the way my family has done things. I'm not entirely sure why this is the case. I guess part of it was just the fact that my family is pretty large.

Since we grew up the same way, I would have to say no. It's kind of sad because I don't really remember. I remember the huge table in Grandpa's basement, but I don't remember ever sitting at it. Mostly, I remember being in his living room and eating with everyone. I remember eating in Grandma's basement too. I miss those days a lot!

We just really had the food set up most of the time. One year there was just a table but often times, if you got hungry, then you could grab a plate and sit where you was room. Then again, there I can just imagine a kids table. Actually it would just be me alone, as there was a huge gap in age between me and my cousins and I can only imagine how much they would have loved being stuck with me at the age of five. So yeah, it is just grab a plate and sit wherever. Just don't make too much of a mess. That is just the way things are going to go around the time of the holiday season in these parts. If you're hungry grab a plate. If you're not, just sit tight. Doesn't really matter where you sit, just eat, and then we're open presents and chat and all that wonderful stuff.

If we were at the grandparents, the kids just filled a plate and sat in the kitchen, until we got older and then we sat all over the house. Other places we had big rooms and family style seating, no kids' table. Now we go to my brothers. Sometimes there is more than twenty of us. We have several tables set up end to end, serve ourselves and we all go sit where ever at the table. Kids do not learn good manners if they are not allowed to be around the adults. My opinion, of course. I love how you describe the meals you remember.

in my house no, there was no kid's table, kids ate first, and then the men or the men even ate with the kids if there was room at the table, and then the women ate. however, at my mothers house ( I lived with my grandmother) Yes she had a kid's table and my sister and I sometimes sat there depending on how many people she had coming for dinner. My son was always at the kids table because the family got bigger by the time he came around lol

I wish we did have a kid's table when I was a kid, instead we had to wait for all the adults to finish eatting (no matter how long it took!) before we were allowed to eat. Sometimes there was precious little left; especially if our freeloading northern cousins came to visit. A kid's table would have been a true blessing.

It depended on where we were having our meal. If we were at my Grandma's and Grandpa's, we would have to sit at the kids table if we ate upstairs. But for Christmas Eve, we would eat downstairs where the table set-up was similar to your Grandmother's. There was a Christmas tree with the presents under it, so we did not have to move too far after eating a big meal. Now that the Holidays and birthdays are celebrated elsewhere because of my Grandparents passing away, if there is a kids table, I sometimes still sit there...by choice. It can be fun to sit at the kids table from time to time. But for Christmas Eve now we all bring appetizers and eat wherever and whenever we want to.

In my family we never really had a Kid or Adult table. We would all just stand and eat our food or go stand by the people we wanted to talk to. It wasn't really separated like how I see in other places, we got to go where we wanted. If we wanted to stay by the adults or we could go around with the other members of the family.
