I'm watching my brother's cat

My brother has been bringing his cats to my apartment to feed them the last few days to get them accustomed to being around me since he will be leaving the country in the near future. I was sitting here on mylot and the one cat came over by me. There is a lot of yarn on the table left over from the cross-stitch project I recently finished so I took a piece of it and was playing with the cat. She kept batting at the string and it was so fun to watch her. Then she went over and ate. She wouldn't eat when my brother was here even though she was begging for food before he came over with her. I don't know if she was just nervous or not hungry but she didn't eat when she was here yesterday or until just now even though there was both cat food and turkey available. I hope that she does ok here because my brother doesn't want to put the cats in the pound when he leaves and he also doesn't want to leave them to go wild again. The male was one he rescued and I know that one could survive on his own again but I don't think the other one could.

that is so sweet. you get to be the mommy of furbabies for a while. i bet you will enjoy the company. dont worry, cats are not as tough to care for as dogs. im surprised though you let them out. anyway, they will adjust im sure. they seem to adjust much better then dogs. but if one comes missing it may have went back home. they do that some times

I did enjoy the company last night although it was strange to have the cat crawl on me before she finally settled down and went to sleep. I don't have a litter box so it is necessary to let them out at least once in a while. I let them out this morning and I was told that the one he was worried about getting lost showed up at his door both yesterday and today. I'm sure they will be all right. It is just a matter of getting them used to being here. Have a great weekend!!!

Hi daeckardt, cats are fond of love. They can guess who love them. The cat of your brother could understand your affection. So she likes your company.

I imagine they will get used to you, and you will probably find them to be good company. Where is he going, and will he be gone very long? I hope you had a good Thanksgiving.

When I finally went to bed last night Deceptikitty tried to get me to let her outside, but when I didn't get out of bed she finally settled down and laid by me. When she asked me to go out again at 5 or so, I let her out since I don't have a litterbox. Bumblebee didn't ask to go out until after 6 so that was good for me. Fortunately, at least one of them ate since the turkey that was there is gone. My day was ok. Have a great weekend!!!

I imagine it was nerves that kept the cat from eating. That's such a good idea to have them get used to you so it won't just be one big shock when your brother has to leave. Is he pretty sad to have to leave them behind? I'm glad you are able to take them.

I'm sure it was. I think they probably felt more comfortable eating after I went to bed. He said he wasn't bothered about leaving Deceptikitty behind since she was picked up at the pound and could easily be readopted, but with Bumblebee, he was more concerned because he was picked up as a stray and doesn't always take well to new situations. Have a great weekend!!!

You'll enjoy the cats. They can be so funny sometimes. They will be fine with you seeing that they're eating and that one is playing. A yarn string is my cat's favorite toy. I make a little tassel for the end and flip it around for her. At times, I'll find her playing with it by herself. She just can't seem to resist it. She'll ball it up and bury it in her bedding and then look at me to tell me to dig it out.

It is pretty amazing what animals will do to entertain themselves. I had a beagle many years ago who would play with just about anything. He would have an empty can and he would pick it up and throw it around and it would be really funny to watch him do that. I'm sure these cats will be the same way eventually. Happy thanksgiving!!!

Sounds like you are going to have some very interesting house mates..lol. It will take them a few days to get adjusted but they will be fine after that. If it takes a little longer, don't worry. I think you are going to have a lot of fun with them though. I like cats but it has been a long time since I had one. I have little dogs now.

I'm sure they will get used to being here. I guess that is why he started bringing them over now instead of waiting until they were leaving so that they would know that I am safe. Have a great weekend!!!

Smokey - Smokey Cat, my best friend.
I admire any man that opening likes cats, a lot of men will not show they care about cats because I guess they think it is not a man thing, I think your brother is one cool dude. And I think you will be very happy with these cats..As soon as you see the cats flop down on the floor in front of you and roll over you will know you have one them over, I have worked out with my cat who isn't a real affectionate cat, if I go out when I come home she is always there at the gate and as soon as I get out of the car she rolls over and she looks so happy ... Cats are beautiful.

He was not particularly fond of Deceptikitty (the cat they adopted from the humane society), but he is very fond of Bumblebee (a stray they took in and now is part of their family). The cats were named by his now 8 year old son. They have had these cats for over two years I think. My brother doesn't get all affectionate with them, but he does pay them attention. He just doesn't like it when they start getting hissy. Thanks for the response! Happy thanksgiving!!!
