Hi, everyone. Our corrupted Indian official system is again making trouble to a foreigner. We are masters on making slogans like "atithi debo bhava", but all seem as bogus. We better know how to deal with our corrupted systen but its too hard to a foreigner. Here is the matter. She has to produce her kid's birth certificate to get the return tour documents to her own country. She is bound to leave India within December but officials have said to her hubby that it will take 3 months to get the certificate. I know its not true, i can manage same here within a week but how 3 months? Do u think it takes 3 months? She is in Mumbai now. Can anyone help her? Your reaction against such issue regarding a foreigner having problem in our land?

Where was the kid born? Why does she need Indian birth certificate unless she is an Indian citizen? When did she arrive in India? There are other complications shiby. There are people who smuggle kids, though not infants.

First of all, I am that person, second I did not snatched any kid, I gave birth in India, I have my PIO card married to Indian citizen and I live here for four years. I am not crazy to get my kid registered in a country who's soil in the first place gave me headache and tension. If I were to choose, I would rather register my baby in my country's embassy but SADLY, they still need to get the papers in your local registry which may take 4 months to process. I don't like bribery so don't suggest me that, I do like what is legal and proper. I am just ranting about why the heck it takes too long to process wherein you just need to submit a paper and that's it.

@strawberrychocodahi - I am sorry if I offended you. I didnt mean to. I meant that procedures are in place to prevent that sort of crime. And I categorically mentioned not infants. Please note I didnt say she could be smuggling the kid. I think you are worked up about the issue so perhaps you interpreted the response in that way. I understand sweetie - . @shiby - as I mentioned - there is a lot of red tape in this - to prevent human trafficking. The procedure needs to be followed by everybody, even if it were the President of the country. Why is it so bad? We have not yet reached that level of mechanization as other countries. Why have we not mechanized things. We simply couldnt afford to so far. We are one of the most populous nations, sparing for such things would mean cutting down elsewhere. We have to allocate large chunk for fighting with our neighbors, and then whatever remains substantial amount of it goes to pay salaries of employees so not much is remaining. Things are improving for example now in our state we can get a passport in 45 minutes. It will take time shiby. Others need food education and medicine so this computerization takes second priority. Can I solve her problem -nope. She doesnt want to pay bribes, she will have to run from pillar to post. You'd think she would get after three months. I will tell you no unless she takes the matter to some ACB. Toll free number for Andhra Pradesh is 155361.

Hi shibham, can you explain a little more? May be with a little background of her story? Has she given birth in India? What is her nationality? Getting birth certificate....in Jaipur, you just go to the registrar after two weeks of the baby being born and you can get Birth Certificate of new born. It takes two weeks for the hospital to send the documents to the registrar. Another thing, what passport does the baby have? Oh wait, without birth certificate, the baby cannot apply for passport. That will take time too, depending on the country. My daughter's British passport took about a month, that is including the birth certificate, applying for the passport, interview, etc. You are right about 'Atithi Debo Bhava'. It is a sham. Yes, there are good people, but most of them are trying to cheat people who does not know the local ways, doesn't need to be a foreigner, just anyone who is out of place.

They have done what they should do. In India taking bribe in Govt departments are employment right. Almost all off them are taking **** as per his/her capacity. I am not surprised that the employees are harassing her. Thats why I was against the movement of Anna Hazare. Only politicians are not guilty. When corruption is every where we should think in different way.

It is not always true. Just consider the situation of the foreigner. If she paid the bribe she might not be in trouble. She is guilty, but upto what content.

Hiya shibs, One of my rare moments on here. That is a horrible situation to be in to be sure. I cannot think why they act like that. But they also do that here. I know one Chinese Girl is taking forever to try and bring her very young Son here. She does everything right she works so hard it is so unfair what they are doing a Son needs his Mother and its heartbreaking to see her so sad. She has had another Daughter here but her firstborn is the Son and also his Father keeps everything quiet to himself never complains either. By now they should have something sorted out as I have not seen them in a long while hope so as she is a wonderful caring person. Its all the same to me what nationality anyone is after all I am foreign here too as well you know. Just this Morning I had to spell my name to the very unfriendly Transport Delivery Woman who said back you mean Susana don´t you with a very nasty look and I said yes whatever you want to put. I just ignore them most of the time as they are very rude and ignorant they have no idea how to treat anyone.xxx

Hi angel.... New avatar. wooowhhh.... nice to meet you after a long period. you are treated as a foreigner in Spain by spelling your name but here, i have to do that in my native land for some stupid authorities. they seem so strict in some issues but in real all are bogus and bribe oriented. If you give a bribe, then no need to spell anything and everything is okay. Its really shameful. Have a nice time.

Hiya shibs, Yes really my first name is shortened like yours shibs mine is Sue for short but they are very awkward here like that about pronouncing it but again I don´t take any notice of them any more. He is a bundle of energy the one in that avatar he is fast losing his fear of Men he only goes to Women first thing but with men he was holding back but now he is changing we have won his confidence thank goodness. I have problems here with Birth Certificates as my kids were born in England and I could not Register them in the Consulate here as you were required to go to London and that was too far for me to go right then as well.xxx That is one of the problems they made for me and they have never resolved it either they just shrug their shoulders and more or less tell you to put up with it. You can´t bribe anyone here not in public anyway. But bribes still go on.

mamu I have nothing to get involved here or anywhere... I am in my room... happy that I am not the one who is affected.... I did not ask her to visit India... it was her choice, neither was she my guest... And for that "atithi devo bava" (Guest is God) - I always take great pride in making people fight over religion, women, and many more things to keep myself safe... Unfortunately this is what the governing bodies think and behave. Are you really sure that we Indians actually believe in GOD? I have my humble doubts. It is something like a cup of coffee... anyone can make it as per his/her choice, selection and preferences... Long live Indian Philosophy and Long Live Corruption

Only with supporting group just won't work or not make much resulting answer to reform the corrupted government, if you need a brand new government, or do something to make it better, to work for people, it would need a heck of revolution to do so. It might take a bit of bloodshed to do so. What do you think of it?

Hi kingparker.... The worst side of our government is its political parties. We have many political parties. say, five parties and in a election the votes are obtained this way.... A- 16%, B- 27%, C- 32%, D- 19%, E- 6%. Then obviously C group will make the government which party is disliked by 68% citizens. Then what type of government is this? Just think. Have a nice time/.

Corruption seems to have grown into a cancerous disease in many third world countries and ours is no exception. The big fishes in government departments are the most corrupted people who take every opportunity to swindle money from people who are forced to seek their services on important cases. In this case, she should seek her country's High commissioner to sort out her dilemma if she is being met with difficult government officials. It is a shame that these corrupted officials are treating a foreigner the same as the locals. She might not understand the real truth behind all the unnecessary delay in processing her documents. Coming from a country that has clean and honest government officials, it will be a cultural shock for her to be confronted with these corrupted officials.

Hi zandi... you are right. This corrupted officials are the stains on the name of hospitality of Indians. we better know how to cope with this corruption but as i have mentioned earlier that for a foreigner, its too hard to deal with. its really shame on that name of a certain nationality. Due to some corrupted officials we all are blamed which has made us worried. have a nice day.
