What’s your view about the joke on railway accidents in India?

Railway accidents with a heavy toll of life in every case are now so frequent in India that a joke has now become very popular among the people. I want to share the joke for your comments; ‘If you want to commit suicide and do not know how to do it, go to a railway station, buy a ticket and board a train, your desire will soon be fulfilled’. It is no doubt a joke but unfortunately the state of affairs are proceeding in such a way that unless checked immediately, the joke may come true sooner or later.

Namaste Didiji, Yes lately this issue has become a joke and a matter of national shame for all of us Indians. I mean, every single you open the newspaper or turn on the news on TV and there is at least one such news staring at you. I was watching the show Extreme Trains on TV a few days back. This particular episode was about the superfast Acela Express in America which is run by the Amtrak. The train can run upto speed of 250 miles/hour or was it Kilometres?? I forget! but that is besides the point. What really fascinated me was that the tracks that are used by Acela were first laid down by the Amtrak in early 19th CENTURY and they are still in great condition. The efforts taken by Amtrak to keep it that way are so amazing. It is not at all an easy job with hundreds of people working endlessly to achieve the ultimate in standards of safety and technology. Seeing that, what really pained me most was in spite of India having no dearth of manpower, we fall miserably behind. Th reason, I think, no doubt, is lack of willpower and the omnipresence of corrupt officials everywhere!

Yes , every citizen is responsible for such a state of Railways !!..surprised ?..we only blame the government for all the things that needs to be improved..but what is our role here ???... we are the silent passengers who travel baring everything in mind .. Yes its easy to talk.. but revolution or improvement starts when we stop tolerating these in our life ..

That is terrible but I understand it. Isn't there anything they can do to reduce the fatality rate? If the joke dispells some of the stress of riding I guess that is a good thing. I hope they can make the ride safer at some point. Thanks for sharing.

That is terrible! I can't believe India has let this continue! The way you sound in this discussion, this might go on longer! That is a shame and disgusting! It sounds like the goverment doesn't care about their people! They should be ashamed of themselves! If I lived in India I wouldn't take the train because of what is happening! This is so terrible!

Maybe a joke, but a sad one. It means, railway stations there/trains are not safe? The government should do all the precaution/necessary action regarding this matter before it get worse.

Hi DoctorDidi thats not very funny in fact I think its awful that yuor trains are that unsafe. I sure am not laughing thinking of people getting hurt or killed in railway accidents. I hope your ]government does something soon to remedy this horrible situation so that there will be no more morbid jokes or real accidents on railways.

Ok it is a joke, but it is a sad one. The person who lost anybody in an accident must pain. It is more of a criticism for the way things are. We unfortunately do not have enough resources to maintain and remake the existing infrastructure. Because there is so much unemployment, government creates jobs. People have to be paid you know. All that tax payer's money goes within no time, and even then people go on strikes.
