I sing..and it was really nice to know that it keeps Alzhiemers away, even if it is shrieking. We know so much about alzhiemers now. 30 years ago, people only talked of AIDS.
Never mind..I am here to say that thirty years ago, I loved drawing and painting. Today, even though I love it, I am not able to.
But the
that I am, I want to try something. It would be nice if you all could suggest something simple that I would feel like drawing and which would look nice even if I didnt do a perfect job.
(Honest confession - I used to draw and paint flowers. Nobody ever saw those flowers so they always looked perfect, at least to me
)
And I love those Buddhist paintings. What about you?

Hi Vandana!
You could very well revive your old hobbies of drawing and painting.
At this stage, whenever you have time you could go for sketching, drawing and painting and could complete the project as and you have time to complete it.
You could also give tuitions to young kid in your spare time and could help them grow as nice and good persons.
All the best.

Deepu that is the next plan..for now the thing is so topsy turvey..case hearing is again posted for 24th Jan. But judge is strict. He said that is the final adjournment. It is the first case on that date. Once that is known, we know which way we are going. There is a charitable institution downstairs. They are repairing the building at the moment. I too have some minor works as I told you. Dad is great at putting spokes. So..things move on. Just feel watching television is such waste of life!

Hi vandana,
with the time we are changing mentally and physically. Once I loved to sing, now I can not. It pains me. So it is better to find out a way to remain cheerful. We can't go back to that stage of life which we lost. It is true time and tide wait for none. But at least we can try to float with the time. We should have the determination not to surrender.

I agree. I was watching Rockstar program. Master Sachin as he was called back then is of my age. And he sings so well at this age as well! And I let go of so many of my hobbies. Hobbies help to tide over bad times I think. We get so lost in enjoying them that we forget what is bugging us. So I think we should have hobbies - other than eating and watching television.

Your Hobbies survived the volcanoes, earthquakes, political riots... That is good news
When you have a hobby, and the time,I see no reason NOT to chase those desires. I always wanted to be a writer.
. Didnt know how and where to sharpen the skills. A long time desire to join some course from Writersbureau of UK. But when I had money, I had no time. Now when I have time, I have no money
... But then, the Desire won. Sent them their first Installment today and the courseware gets delivered to me in a month...
Then it will be the tussle between my desire and laziness
... So what I will have the course and then definitely a few minutes or hours a day to read through and start writing...
It is never too late

thesids - you do write well, and you do have a subtle sense of humor. You will succeed dont you worry. And laziness? What laziness when you now have voice software at your disposal. You can dictate the matter as and when you feel like. When it comes to earning monies, laziness takes backseat, let me assure you that.

Thanks for mentioning and appreciating my style. But unfortunately, I have some big issues here. Maybe this style seems to be okay for smaller posts (like the responses or even a few of the articles I wrote for Blogs etc) but when it comes to writing larger content, like say for print, I feel that I lack much and that is one reason for me to opt for that course. I know and even they mentioned (during our chats) that writing skills are inborn and nothing much can be done, but they can show me the way (via their course).
And for getting the dictation into text... Yes, The Microsoft office pack does come with one such feature but it has always been more time consuming to get the interpretations right... After all, that pack cannot accommodate so many versions

Perhaps reading a book or especially an e-book will be a good thing for you as hobby.
I love playing cricket, it's always been my hobby, that's why whenever I get some time, I play or watch cricket.

I spend so much time watching that television.
You know another disadvantage of watching those programs? My hand is constantly traveling between my mouth and my plate which invariably has lots of interesting stuff. So I put on weight as well.
30 years ago, we didnt have so many programs. So we devoted more time to stitching, reading, and other hobbies like sketching, and painting. Singing is something we can do simultaneously. Now, it is so hard to do something that I've lost touch with.
Reading I still do. I do surf the net a lot. But what were my former hobbies and which gave me a lot of pleasure seem to be completely out of horizon.

I think it would be better to say that with time our hobbies and priority changes or we can say, we change with time.
Eating is what I always do, especially sweets, last week I was at home, I had 50-70 rasgullas in 3-4 days and I also captured a few of them and uploaded here as proof
This Internet is very dangerous, it keeps you awake without any reason and every time you end up spending a couple of hours here that too in week ends.

Dancing was my passion and writing short poems and quotes was my hobby. Unfortunately, I cannot continue with my passion anymore, but yes I do engage myself in my hobby.
For you I'd suggest you to try something different this time and draw jewellery designs. You do not have to worry about the designs being perfect as you will not be designing them on any client's order. Once you get skilled in that you can show your designs to your friends, relatives and neighbors. You never know! You may soon start getting orders for jewellery designing. What say?

Its so sad isnt it that after a certain age we can no longer dance, or sing. Not that we cant if we want to, but our physical limitations do restrict us.
I remember my painting teach with her glasses. I thought she was great. So quiet and dignified. We all automatically became quiet in her presence.
Jewelry design? Ok..that is a way to start. But hey, jewelry design requires a lot of perfection. Nevertheless, I will try because you suggested. If someday, some jeweler were to approve my designs I will definitely let you know. :) Thanks sweetie for the suggestion.
@Deepu..no..I dont have any jewelry.

Drawing and painting is a hobby that you can pursue anytime. Why dont you start it now scan it and probably start a website with all your paintings that you can share with us. Then may be we would be able to judge whether your flowers are perfect

You know mayka, I really need to. When I sit in front of the television, I waste so much of my life. I feel so bad about it. Because I was not that bad. My English teacher in Mary Immaculate had made me draw so many posters for parties. Back then, even in Botany classes, lab assistants used to make me draw flowers and use my drawings. Now, I feel I did something stupid by letting go of what god gave me.

hi vandy my hobby is writing fiction and poetry. I am no artist and my singing is strictly confined to the shower. but you should pursue your hobbies as it will keep your mind healthy into old age just
as you said. my roomie is a victim of Alzheimer disease and now forgets just an hour after you tell her so I am sort of a part time mom to her seeing she gets to meals at the right time and remembers what she wants to ask at the front desk. My own memory is pretty healthy as I have practiced mental health tricks for the last few years so I will
not go senile. Why not draw flowers in a meadow with nice green trees and a stream.Just a suggestion of course.

That is what I am going to do. I will upload a picture when I do that. :) I'd painted a nice rose and given to papa as birthday card, about 30 years ago. But papa lost it! One of my bosses wanted to buy that one. But I had refused. I'd also sketched horses, Grace Kelly, and one Pakistani actor Zeba Bhaktiar. My boss also wanted to buy Zeba Bhaktiar's sketch. I was really stupid in those days. I didnt give it to him. I should have kept in touch with him. He was so appreciative about my this ability. Didnt do much of it after that period. :(

I will, as usual, give you the unusual advice. It's time to be a little bit selfish so go ahead and take out some time to enjoy your hobbies. Before you equate the time so spent with the earnings lost, let me assure you, a refreshed mind earns more in a shorter time than a jaded one. You will be glad you did.
So go ahead and paint something! If you are looking at me to give you an idea, I'll do better, I'll inspire you! Paint a meadow after a bevy of horses have grazed. It is very easy, you need not paint the grass as the horses have already finished all of it, neither do you need to paint the horses as they have no reason to stay on a barren meadow. Pure genius, don't you think?
As for me the closest I have come to paintings is coloring my greying hair, and even that leaves patches of dye on my ears and cheeks. Informed opinion says it is free style abstract painting. Cheers!

I am feeling great, I went to the stationery shop, purchased a drawing book, an Apsara pencil, a nice rubber, and a sharpener. You wont believe it, at 52 I feel as thrilled as I felt when I was in my school going days. Why on earth did I leave this hobby? I will try painting those meadows. If I succeed, you will surely see some paintings out here. :) Thanks. :)

I have a good friend who says keep drawing something and paint them any color. After you are done with it rotate it and see if makes sense in any angle. Whichever angle seems to be right - keep that and give it a name.
He is perverted let me assure you. Problem is, he is somebody I know from ages. I really wonder how his wife tolerates him.
