Another exciting day in the city

Recently I've put my jewelry in a place that sells crafts that have been made by seniors (50+) and to do so I have to work 8 hours a month (2 hrs a week). I did one day in October but the only day in November was a day when I had a bunch of medical tests being done. So, to make up for being unable to come in November, I took all the days in December. That included today. I have been staying upstairs to "guard" the art and museum up there, but today they had someone up there so suggested I go down stairs. I did... Just in time to witness them calling 911 because a guy came in and said he was having a heart attack. My... way more excitement than I was ready for. That killed the first 20 minutes, getting the fire department there and then the ambulance. **sigh** then the next 30 minutes was talking about that! Then a homeless lady came in and asked to call to see if there were any bed at the homeless shelter (no) because she didn't want to walk over there in the rain. She left saying "you got a nice place to work in here" and "guess I'm going to have to sleep in the rain". There was a nice other volunteer there saying he couldn't hear what she said, and I will say that she wasn't the clearest speaker, but I think he might need his hearing checked. Other than that, the Old Bakery was pretty quiet. Here's a link to the place... http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/parks/bakery1.htm Hope you had a better day than Marshall, who had the heart attack - he'd just gotten out of the hospital he said.... or that poor homeless lady...

Wow! Poor Marshall! I hope he's okay. I also hope the homeless lady found a dry spot to sleep. I also hope that if you ever have another exciting day in the city, it's filled with nothing but good things! If we're talking about yesterday, I'd have to say that yes, I did have a better day than Marshall but maybe a tad worse than the wet homeless lady. My kitty, Bean, recently had to go to the vet's because he wasn't eating, wasn't drinking water, was lethargic and was losing weight extremely fast. It turned out that he has Mycoplasma haemofelis, a parasitic infestation of the blood which causes feline infectious anemia. These parasites attach to the red blood cells causing the immune system to attack and kill the cells, causing the severe anemia. Anyway, yesterday, I had to fix my kitty the food he'll eat (mixture of canned cat food and tuna with water added, then heated), give him his pills five times a day, deal with my dogs who've been suffering from extremely itchy skin (from the heat being on, most likely) and I was suffering from some kind of digestive system virus, probably picked up from my son who recently suffered from it. So, needless to say, it was not one of my best days. I've slept in the rain before while camping with no tent, just a sleeping bag (stupid me) and, although it's uncomfortable, it's not that bad. I think I'd rather have slept in the rain than have to do what I went through yesterday.

Poor Bean, I hope he's going to be all right. Zhaan is sick, and we couldn't find her earlier to treat her... she's got that hiding stuff down to a fine art!

Oops, I mean he gets seven pills a day. There's no way I'd try to stuff one pill down a cat's throat each day, let alone seven, not with THOSE teeth and claws!

Sounds like you had quite a day! Makes you be grateful for the things you have in your life. I always tell my kids no matter what we are going through there is someone going through worse. Puts things back in perspective.

That is so true - I've seen that many times, and I'm always grateful that most of my disasters are less than some I've seen.

I will never forget September 11. I am sure those people did not wake up thinking it was going to be their last. Makes me emotional just thinking about it since I am from New York. what a scary day in history! Sorry to make your discussion do melancholy btw

yep that is not a very good day. I also had a strange day wrote the discussion about my dinner with my friends T and M. M had a disagreement with T then went into his room and sulked he didn't even come out for supper and there were 9 of us at the table.

M is hurting me, T now told me that M is mad at all of us, and we had nothing to do with it.

Honestly, the ONLY person M is hurting is himself. I would not worry about him. T will stay with him or not but that's his problem really, not yours.

What an exciting day you had there, ElicBxn. Thanks for sharing the link for The Old Bakery. What a great place it seems to be. I love that people stepped it to keep it from demolition and put it to good use. I would like to see some of the jewelery you make. Do you have a website?

That was an unusual day! I always feel so sad for homeless people and wish I could take them into my house but since the ACLU banned institutionalizing the mentally ill you never know what danger you're putting yourself or your family in if you do provide shelter to these poor people. I didn't see anywhere on the site to look at the jewelry that is displayed. If there is somewhere we could see it I'd appreciate if you'd PM a link.

They don't have a link on the Bakery site because the inventory is always in the flux. I have a few bracelets in my photos on my profile - lousy pix but they are there

My day was pretty boring compared to yours. I went and had some x-rays taken, then came home and napped. I was waiting for a repairman to come and I was just doing some odds and ends things while I waited. It turned out he came earlier than I thought. They said between 1 and 5 PM, so I figured 5. He came around 2. There is a box in my garage for the computer and it needed a new battery. I didn't even know there was a battery! Anyway, when I first read your post, I thought you might say the other volunteer was going to take care of the homeless woman. I guess these days, you have to be careful who you take in. What a shame! I hope the man that had the hear attack is okay, will you know what happens to him?

Probably not, life is full of unfinished stories that flit through your life leaving unsettled and unfinished stories behind...

Makes you thankful for what you've got, and for good medical test results. I guess it breaks up the monotony as well. Nice that we are "seniors" over 50.

Sounds like quite an eventful day! Nothing positive it sounds like. I like the idea of the place you mentioned they have something like that up north called the Snoop Shop with crafts for sale made by the local seniors.

oh, there were plenty of other positive things, I worked another 5 hrs for my brother, I got to spend some time with my sister before she leaves tomorrow And we got about 22 boxes out of my brother's loft, and sorted, well, sorted some anyway. We put 4 back up for him or his daughter to decide on. I brought 3 home, my sister is keeping 2 to ship back home and 4 boxes and 3 bags went to Goodwill. And my sister has also generated 6 or 7 bags of trash from up there too.

wow. thats quite sad. no one was willing to let her lay somewhere at their house to sleep? as they say "there but for the grace of God go I" if i didnt have kids, i might be like that. but then if i didnt have kids id probably be much richer and not have to live in with crappy people like my in laws, etc. now that i think of it.

my day was not even that close to be exciting as yours! Mine was dull! I have been putzing on the computer here and there. Went to work and had a hard once again working in the kitchen! One of my co-empolyees who loves to aviod talking to people when she gets pissed off at them, talked to me! Don't know wht I do to her! She hadn't alked to me in months! I was in shock! She is avery crabby woman! She holds more grudges then anyone I know and alot of people don't like her! She is crappy practically every day she comes into work! She refuses to talk to mgt! She won't stand up for herself! She lets some people,at work, walk all over her! Then I found out through the grapevine there are people at work that talked about me behind my back! Mostly by one woman who helped me out after I had my hystercomy! I knew people were but now I know who and why. I am sure this the b7tch who thinks she is perfect was telling others my apartment look like crap,I was burnden taking me to the doctor and doing my laundry that day she helped me out! Anyway I needed to vent on my day! Now I feel better! thanks for listening!

I guess she was madder at the other people so talked to you... and that other woman... what a witch! I suggest you go around, quietly and say that she volunteered to help you... that if you had known it would stab you in the back later, you would've not allowed her in your home. And suggest that she might turn on whoever you are speaking to next.

I don't see why you had to work 8 hours a month due to putting your jewelry in there. How sad It made you , when you witnessed those who were so unlucky .
