Third time this year (sigh)

So I'm going through things... Yesterday I cancelled a couple of joint credit cards, and cut up a bunch of others that I had never activated. today I was going through things in the bathroom, tossing meds that had expired, etc. Naomi (the informant) comes running up, "Mom, Cary cut his hair again." Sigh, this is the third time this year. I go look in the other bathroom. Yep, hair all over everywhere. So I get Cary in the house and have a look at his hair. Not as bad as last time. His bangs are ragged, but at least he doesn't have bald spots. lol So I make him sweep up the mess, determine that he's bored, and tell him we'll go do something after I finish going through things. Ah yes, the joys of parenting. Do you suppose this is the last haircut? Or do I have many more to look forward to?

Let me get this straight...he cut his hair without any help from others? Come on Dawny...out here, nobody would do that..its a different thing that you could find somebody that OLD bringing in half baked red bricks and placing them on your white sofa saying that they are my guests.. You gotta forgive them Dawny..it is not their fault..god made them like that..

OMG, three times in the same year. I bet it's the last for this year. We still have 2012 coming soon. Hopefully, he will make it through next year with only 2 haircuts. I've often wonder what intrigues us about cutting our own hair. I can bet 98% of the people have tried it once or twice in their lifetime. I know I'm guilty and the results weren't pretty. Best Wishes!

lol.....unfortunately, until Cary has his peers make fun of his attempt at styling his hair, you will probably continue to see the results. My daughter when she was young did it about five times before her peers started telling her that her hair looked bad. After that, she would determine for herself that her hair wasn't pleasing her and demand a haircut from a professional. My son, was just the opposite, he would let his grow to his knees until his peers told him that he looked like a girl, and that ended that. Don't know why children are weird about their hair, but my experience and many of my friends think it is a stage they seem to go through. Unfortunately, if you have a future beautician, hairstylist, or a child having difficulty with their gender, you may see a lot more things along this line for all the years they live under your roof. It seems to be a way in which they express themselves that they feel is totally under their control. My grandson still at times looks like he has done a hatchet job on his hair and he is an adult, but he looks like an Anime character most of the time and is something of a cartoon character. He is a very happy person and gets along great with his peers, but personally, they all look a little weird to me......lmao.

Good, that sounds much more tolerable than a long time of having to watch him butcher his hair! lol.......hang in there, mom!

Hee hee - well, at least it sounds like he's getting better each time - hee hee! I hope I don't go through this . . . my kids don't have a lot of hair . . . and it doesn't grow in fast . . . so if they pulled this, their hair would be messed up for a long time (well, the little one doesn't have much to cut off yet). Say, was Cary named after Cary Grant (that's what I thought with your last discussion)?

So boredom gets him to cut his own hair? Maybe he's practicing to be hair stylist.

I think this is something almost every parent has had to endure at one time or another, and unfortunately there are many who have to deal with it quite often. Maybe he feels that if he cuts it it will save you some money, and he might look better? But if his hair was getting longer than he likes, could he not have told you instead? Maybe something to consider before the next time he decides he needs to try cutting it again.

He is quite capable of opening his mouth and telling me he wants something. but if it's something he can do for himself, he usually just does it (ie making himself a sandwich). I wonder if that's how this is in his mind. He has mild autism, so sometimes it's a real mystery what's going on inside his head.

Okay, so he is bored, and his behavior is telling you something. He is probably wanting something, like attention or activity. I had a son that age play with fire a time or two, with his "reporter" sister making sure that I knew. For the rest of that summer he was the official "fire starter" for the barbecue and other occasions. I think I would find some more credit cards and have Cory cut them up, under you supervision. He gets an activity, he gets your attention, and your hands are free for something else. I am so glad you can laugh at this though. It helps save your sanity. . . or it proves it is already too late.

Activity... Now you tell me. I could have had him cut those cards yesterday. My hand was hurting so much when I was done.

Oh Dawn... There might a few more... Kids will be kids, you know.. It is for us to seek pleasure in their childish activities... So long as there is nothing violent, it should be fine... Tell Cary that he should not do this to his sister.. :-) take care...

Oh I expect you may get a few more hair cuts from Carey. mine were the opposite - just hated their hair being cut. I can remember being 7 months pregnant and holding my stomach whilst I chased my youngest 8 year old son around a Mall to catch him and haul him back to the barber.

I think you can expect others, if you don´´t hide the scissors. Try to place them in a high place you will remember later on. I am in trouble when I put things in "intelligent" places.

It is difficult for me to broach the subject of hair. In fact, as you can see from my picture, I am quite bald. That said, however, I have not ever had a problem. There are far worse things in life that are not baldness. Just to answer your question I believe the correct phrase is the second in the sense that things there will be another year (hopefully) better to deal with. Instill a haircut "badly done" is always remedied in time.

He's only 11, and I don't think he really cares how his hair looks. But yeah, it will be remedied as it grows...

My kid is quite young to do such things, but i remember doing this once when i was small. So even if he does it now it will remind me of my childhood and make me laugh. I do not think we should be very harsh towards such things. All lids are naughty, even we were and now when we have grown up we do not have time to think about doing some thing naughty.

It's been a long time since my children were that age. I think my daughter did take the scissors to her hair once, but it was not a disaster, as she has naturally curly h air. So did our son. Th ere was a time when he was in his teens when I was sorely tempted to catch him asleep and take the scissors to that hair. I started to call hair a mop, but that would have been incorrect. It was always clean and combed, but it looked like a brush (or maybe a bush) to me. It didn't look so bad when he tied it back, but I think he let it go natural just to spite his father and me. Enjoy the time while you have control of how he wears his hair.

Well this is working for him, he gets your total attention. What do you think? I am not a good one to ask, if he was mine I'd shave his head, don't believe me, ask my son. It was the barber from then on. He still complains about it 35 years later. One thing about being a strict Mom, my kids didn't mess with me. They knew if they asked a question they would get a straight answer and if they screwed up I would face the the music with them but also that there would always be music. I'm not nearly that tough in my old age.

I usually had one horrible hair cutting experience per child. I remember my youngest had hair to her hiney and she went to the bathroom. I noticed she had been in there a little longer than usual and I called to her. She even said "hold on" Then I went ahead and opened the door and all that was left of her beautiful hair was on strip in the back...like one of those rat tail styles. I almost passed out. I cried and everything! I took her to a wonderful hairdresser and begged for help. She cut Jessa's hair in the cutest little flip out cut I had ever seen. She never cut her hair again..she might have contributed the experience to something devastating because of my reactionI traumatized her. She traumatized me first though!

My daughter did this only once but she had several bald spots. She was about 4 year old, as I remember. My mother took her to a hairdresser and he had no choice but to cut all the hair. Suddenly her eyes looked so big! All our friends decided that she looked just like Sinéad O'Connor who was very popular at the time. Since that my daughter hates this singer! Anyway, Happy New Year to all of you!

Whoever said boys will be boys did not err! No amount of protestations will ever make any big impact on their adventures!. Not that they have any serious intention of annoying you or disobeying you but they just can't resist those impulses and they have a world of their own. So, it's not all over yet-expect more. Unless of course, you put in deterrents-and all foolproof ones at that! When my daughter was young, I would want her look good in long, flowing hair but my wife would always win with haircuts for daughter. I started being uninvolved, because I felt mothers knew daughters better!
