I have had teachers who were like that and I don't think that it is good way to interact with the students. I especially remember one teacher. He harassed us, insulted us and made fun of us if we made a mistake and we were all afraid of him. He was very, very good at his subject, and he knew so many things, but I didn't enjoy his lessons at all, because I didn't like the way he treated the students. We were all afraid to show up for his classes if we didn't do our homework, because we knew that he was going to talk to us in a really bad way and humuliate us if we made a mistake.

I am a voluntary language teacher at the moment, and I help a family from Asia. They moved from Asia to Denmark and they have started learning the Danish language. I also talk to them in nice way because I think that is the best way to teach them a foreign language or another subject for that matter. Which subject do you teach? Yes, we have umemployment in Denmark. The employment goes up and down and at the moment there are not as many unemployed people as there were in some periods of the past, but there are still people who are unable to find a job. People who can't work because of an illness can get money from the government, but they are about to change the rules about that at the moment.

Porcospino: Yes. I also use to like teachers who talk to us nicely. In fact when I go for teaching besides teaching what I ant to cover, I manage them by being sweet to them. you from denmark? how is economy? Are there people who are unemployed in Denmark.

One thing that I have definitely come to understand in my life is that there are some teachers that are good teachers and there are other teachers that aren't good teachers. When you have a good teacher it is someone that you are comfortable approaching and one that will help you understand when you struggle. Bad teachers are typically only there for the paycheck.

Exactly. the teacher must be approachable for students. Out of 100 students one student comes closer, learns more from teachers. that has been my experience. have a good day.

do not fear... nothing will happen.. you got a new teacher, you are telling that teacher is clever in teaching. Then what is the problem..? Why are you fearing.. But in one way you are right. teacher is like our friend...! I can understand what is your feelings. But I say that do not hate your teacher. I also have a teacher here(studying us in social science-sub.). We all fear to see them. I don't like their class. But I get good marks on that subject. I really hate that subject means do not like. like this I study well for that exam more than other. And I get A+ on S.S... I think you will also say like this in one day.. Happy to study. all the best...

I have seen many teachers of this type during my school & college life. But they all change their way of teaching from start of semester or term(or whatever it is) to the end. It's a superstition among the teachers that making fear of the their subject& themselves will give students good attention the respective subjects. To an extent it is a success. But not in all cases.Actually for me and some of my friends, type of teaching doesn't matter for us. We go in our way , in the case of learning as well as not learning. But surely i love some of my teachers.Their view on teaching and way teaching always attracted me.

I don't think that fear is positive for anything. I caused more stress and I think college students have enough of that. It is sad that this teacher has chosen to use fear as a teaching tool. It says volume about their own psyche and self esteem. They must not feed adequate to teach in any other way.

i guess we all have had such a teacher, or boss, either once in our lives, you are not alone. :), do not pay much attention to her, you say that she is clever in the subject she gives, so, attend to this, and this alone, and forget her manners. On the other hand, try to think about her too, maybe she is having a rought time herself, try to talk and reach to her, you and your classmates, if it does not work, anbd she does not change, stick on attending classes.

Hi Dassodils: I don't think that intimidation would be a way of teaching in anyway. Probably your teacher is feeling insecure and that's the reason why she acts this way to show some authority and that's terrible. Some people should remember that they are dealing with humans and values are important. You don't need to make people feel that way to show your authority. ALVARO

If she is doing this because it is her style; she does not know any of you yet and she wants to make sure that no one thinks they can take advantage of her, well that's one thing. Not necessarily the best method of teaching, but some do it. On the other hand, if she is doing this and truly harassing people; degrading them similar to the stereotype of a drill instructor in the military, this is wrong. She may be doing this to mask the fact that she does not know as much about the class or the material as she thinks she does. Often times people will act in a condescending manner because they don't want any questions because they don't understand the subject. If this is the case, that is really a problem. Knowledge is power, and the best thing you can do with knowledge is convey it to others in a manner that they understand. If she cannot do this, the students lose because of her failure.

In fact ,I sometimes hate my teacher for not treating us in a fair way.But I can do nothing .After all ,teacher is a teacher ,she/he do well in subject ,so we should respest to she/he no matter who's she/he.

Well, I became a teacher before buy not in college, they told me that I am terror, but I am not..your teacher might give you a fearful appearance at first, its just that I think teachers needed some respect at first because some student don'tr behave well.. Don't hate your teacher it might affect your studies.. all you need to do is find a way to please her.. study hard and always listen to them.. they won't teach you bad stuff but good ones..just be patient, you'll see in the end you'll just love her:)

Well usually the profile of teacher's that are harsh with students are commonly that when they were students they were bullied by there teacher's also, or also maybe this kind of teacher is just scarrying you guys first hand so that she will not have any problems with you guys regarding behavior in the future. Right??? Maybe??

Not a good teacher. Make me remember statistic subject. No one want to take the subject. The teacher is clever but so difficult to pass the subject. Not much student can get even B grade (A is the best, E is the worst). But nothing we can do. We can only perform two thing, study hard to pass or make it fail completely, so the institution will check out, what happen to the class. have a nice day
