Would you spend money to get a decent profile picture on your Facebook profile?

Hi all! I recently came across news that many Facebook users spend considerable amount of money to get the profile pictures made by professional photographers so that their friends/others could notice them and they could get some favorable comments. This made me think – would you like to spend money to get your profile pictures done by a renowned photographer so that others could appreciate you and could pay compliments. As far as am concerned, I won’t spend money on such an issue. Do you feel that a Facebook user’s profile picture denotes his/her taste and is very important for building friendship/ties with the user? Please share your views.

Just two word- NO WAY!!! Facebook is a platform where you connect with friends and keep yourself updated.. Most of the people in your friend list know you personally and have seen the real you..So then Why would you spend to get something artificial? It really puzzles me !! But then there are a lot of people who get an ego boost when someone comments on their photo on how good they look or how pretty they are.. they are people who seeks others approval to help them feel better.. Luckily I am not one among them .. Hence I would never do such a stupid thing. Cheers

Hi ashwin! It is nice to hear that you won't spend money on your profile picture because you are not too crazy to get noticed by others just for the sake of it. Actually, it is a kind of narcissism, where one feels obsessed with his/her own picture and desperately wants to get noticed by others and somehow seek their compliments to feel better. It appears that some of the youngsters might be more interested in doing such things and they might have a very strong desire to get noticed. Thanks for joining sharing your views. Have a great day ahead! !

Hi deepak, I dont think that I would spend money to get my photograph taken just so that I get noticed on Facebook.I like natural pictures that introduce me to my friends on facebook....No doubt that a picture does tell a tale about the person and probably about his taste and preferences to a certain extent. But again, I wouldnt give too much importance to it since it is a personal choice as to whether one want to upload a picture or not.Enjoy your day deepak

Hi Kiran! Your response is on predicted lines and I am sure that you won't go for special pictures to be used on your FB profile page. I feel that younger generation might be more interested in doing such things and they might have a strong desire to get noticed. Thanks for sharing your views. Have a great day ahead!

Facebook users spending money to get profile pictures? Wouldn't the profile pictures be serving some other primary purpose instead of just being a profile picture? For example, my friend had a portrait picture taken for God knows what and decided that the pic would look nice for her FB profile. I would definitely not pay for just a profile picture - after all, Facebook is meant to be free. A profile picture isn't really supposed to be the supreme representation of everything on your Facebook account - you can't really see anything much about your person through a profile picture, could you? So, yeah. I wouldn't pay for a profile picture, because Facebook is a SOCIAL NETWORKING site, not a PICTURE SHARING one.

Hi fox! You are right that some users are very particular about their profile picture and they would user their best portrait picture to upload on their FB profile. I appreciate your point that you would not spend money on specially creating your profile picture by a professional photographer. Thanks for sharing your considered views.

I personally feel a profile picture of any networking sites be it facebook or others speak a lot about the person . What the profile should be and how much you should make it distinctive depends on your priority . If one is into films or modelling then there justification in spending money to make the profile lucrative . Public figures and socially recognized personalities do use technology to build up their image both ways . But I being a low profile person neither have the inclination nor money to put up a 'rich' profile picture because I know that most of my friends in the list know me personally and I don't need any buid up . I have seen my friends spending huge amount on their profile photos to be uploaded on marriage sites . Does that really help in the long run ? They have the answers .

Hi rolly! You are very right when you say that uploading eye catching pictures suits well to celebrities and likes. There is no fun for ordinary mortals like you and me to show lavishness and upload professionally done photos. You have added a new dimension in the discussion by mentioning about expensive pictures which are uploaded on matrimonial sites by the eligible bachelors. I agree with you that one's exquisite pictures can not help in the long run if one is otherwise not nice and accommodating, as far as marriage/married life is concerned. I must say - yours is one of the best responses so far. Have a nice day! dpk

Whoaw! I've never heard of that. But I have seen very nice and professional photos uploaded on people's FB accounts. Some of them are already professional photographers while some have friends' who owns those DSLR camera's which made them upload nice photos.

Hi ene! How are you doing. Hope you are fine. Your reply tells that you have seen some photographs on FB which were done by professional photographers or the user himself/herself was a professional photographer. It is fine, if one is a professional photographer and upload some outstanding pictures on his/her profile page but spending considerable amount of money to getting a portfolio made is not understandable. Thanks for joining and sharing.

Hi ene! It is nice to hear that you are doing fine. It is good that you won't spend money on getting your profile picture done by a professional photographer. It is wise on your part that you could ask friends to edit your photo through some software so that you could look more presentable/beautiful. It was mentioned in the news that people (youngsters) were willing to spend Rupees 30,000 to 50,000 (i.e. approximately - 1500 US $ to 3000 US $) for the pictures, which was mind boggling figure.

I'm fine deepak I wouldn't spend a considerable amount just for that too! Those nice looking photos can be edited in photo shop if one wanted to have a nice photo. I can ask friends to do that for me so there is no need to waste money for that. I guess that is what's most of the people now are doing. But the trend now is going to photobooths where they will stand on the booth for photos wearing funny hats and wigs. I don't know how much that cost coz I have not even tried that too. I am contented using my digicam and my mobile cam

I have many friends who spent a lot of time to edit the images on fb by their own way but I had not seen any of them spending money to have a good profile picture. Profile picture plays a little role in having friends. For Eg: If you put a girls beautiful photo at the very next hours you will have many of request. My sister have thissituation. At first she just uploaded a cute little girls photo at that time she was not have such things but when she uploaded her cute photo every one started to sent more and more of messages and friend request. Friends remember that such friends are really fake they just here to have something different which you do not think

Hi dear! It means your friends are smarter and they could themselves do the needful, as far as uploading some catch photographs on FB is concerned. I can understand your point regarding uploading of your sister's picture. There are many who would just send a request to a female because she has uploaded a good looking picture (without going into any further details). You see uploading a good picture by a female does not mean that she wants to add more and more friends, but people are strange. Thanks for enriching the post and sharing your views and experiences.

In today's technology, i dont think you have to spend money to get decent photo of yours. We have digital cameras, mobile phones that carry a decent camera and also our webcam. Moreover there are many free photo editing sites, which make you look pretty impressive.

Hi sri! You are right that in the age of digital cameras and other such devices and software like photoshop etc. one could get a decent picture. However, there are professional photographers, say for those who wants to go into the profession of modelling etc., who do their profile in a professional manner. The stress of the post on those who spend huge amount of money (Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 50,000) to get their profile pictures done by a Professional photographer. Thanks for sharing and kick starting the post.

No what I mean here is we might thin that those people are wasting their money as it might not bring anything good except the 'praising things' but for those who have the skills like the professionals what these people like will be their great source of income. we will not earn anything other than compliments when we do have a good picture profile..(^^)

I would never spend money on a picture for facebook, I feel when some of my freinds put their best pictures on looking fab, they start receiving friend requests of some very strange people, Unless you have a very bad self esteem, i wont be suprised if you put a professional pic on there. Rather save your money and dont think to much of what other people think of you.

That is so superficial! I know that in my picture I want to look good, but I also want to be able to change my picture every once in a while when I get bored. Therefore I dont really find it worth it to spend good money on it, I can see if I were already taking pictures like when getting family portraits done, but otherwise I think it's a waste of money.

I WILL NOT. I would just post one of my best photographs anywhere [make a choice among the existing ones and pick the best] but would never consider doing such a thing. My relationships would only be built on friendship and genuine respect; any friendship develops only after interactions and by the time the friendship has developed we always realise that looks do not come into this aspect. However, as far as denoting taste , I would add one thing. We all have different tastes and to a middle aged person like me, if I see some obscene photograph that crosses the borderline in decency, it may cause slight hesitation in forging friendships. But , however wonderful a photograph is, if I am not too comfortable interacting with a person , I would not interact.

Hi Kalav! I am sure that you won't spend huge amount of money on such an activity. I fully agree with you that relationship between two people will build on mutual respect and interests and not merely on the basis of profile picture. It is true that tastes of younger generation and middle aged people (like us) will differ in respect of profile photographs. Thanks for enriching the post.

This is why I am not at Facebook. It is a friend getting contest! It has Nothing to do with a True friendship but the number of people you have on your list! Funny I don't see people as numbers! I will not just add a person Just because they ask me too so Why in the hell would I get a picture of myself to parade around at Facebook?! I love my avatar here. I don't have a digital picture I like of myself and even if I did I would not Want to peddle myself around Just to gain friends I will Never truly connect with!

Some people could really be so vain. Imagine having a picture taken by a professional just so, that it could be their profile picture. In my opinion, they are maybe those people who are in need of friends to cheer them up. That's why they pay , so they could get a nice shot for their profile picture. Sad, but some people would really use their money just to gain friends.
