Mum Is Doing Fine After Her Cataract Removal

Mum rang me late afternoon to tell me she's had her cataract removed and it went well. She was smart enough to let the staff know she was feeling a little apprehensive beforehand, so she was given "tranqs" as Mum calls them, in order to calm her down. As anyone knows who's had this procedure done you have to remain completely still. The nurse took her boots off too so she could lie flat. Mum did make me laugh though. She suffers from Irritable Bowel Syndrome and told me she'd had "plenty to eat" before she went to the Centre, otherwise she..er...breaks wind. She said, "I'm glad I had something to eat as I didn't want to fart when I was led down. Could you imagine the surgeon bending over me and getting a whiff of methane, that wouldn't be good would it?" Haha! Nice to know she's retained her sense of humour. I only hope she relaxes (she has to wait 3 weeks before she has her eyes tested, therefore cannot - realistically wear her specs) because the last time she had the other cataract removed she went on holiday straight after with me. No wonder she fell over! At least she has a sick note for work and if I was her I WOULDN'T rush back but Mum being Mum she'll be "crawling the walls" if she stays at home for any length of time. Did you take it easy after having an operation or couldn't you resist being more active than you should?

I'm glad my family make you smile as my parents - especially, are nice people and deserve to be chatted about at every opportunity on here. They're a great source of material!

It seems to me that your parents are good and honest people .They ardently love life and take an optimistical attitude to life ,so they always have the sense of humour .

See, I knew everything would work out fine. She will have to keep the eye covered for bait and then wear those dark glasses. I used to joke around with my aunt and call her Stevie Wonder. But it heals pretty quick.

She's been sleeping A LOT but I don't think there is anything wrong with that. She's got a sick note from work so I reckon it's a good enough excuse to relax for a few days. Mind you, she is going to walk to see her brother tomorrow, as it's his birthday. I love watching them together as they both have a similar, gentle sense of humour. I think it will do her good..and him too of course.

Thats good. But make sure she protects the eye. Like I said, light could bother her. And being outside, keep the eye covered because of dirt and dust. But getting out is a good thing.

I have not had many surgeries. After the foot surgery I had some things going on that kept me from resting like I should have. The surgery before that was about ten years ago and although I did not have a release to go back to work, I got a release and went on vacation.
