I am not sure if we are suppose to read the responses to a post before er respond or not...but I don't...If and when I see a post that interest me I just automatic respond to it...I don't even think about others feeling the same was as me...Lord help them if they do...LOL...LOL...I mean I just give my knowledge on subject or experience..I don't to appear to be repeating what other have\ said, I just give my honest opinion... No seriously, do you read the responses...let me know how you respond to a post...

Hi Bjc, They say we are supposed to but I don't always. I have learned that if it seems that a lot is missing from a story that it is a good idea to read through to see if more details have been added. The poster gets a bit irritated if you jump on board as responder #20 and ask a question that he's answered at least 15 times previously. Still, I don't always. I usually respond and then go back and read through. My initial reaction is usually based on the initial post.

I think responding to other peoples responses is a choice thing. It makes it more of a "discussion" where everyone is interacting with each other rather than just between the discussion starter and individual responders. It's good to have differing opinions and even debate them as long as everyone stays cool & civil. Like you said, everyone has and is entitled to their differing opinions. I've changed my views on certain things through these little debates. But, you are fine Bjc if you choose not to respond to responses. I actually once recently went through and played by the rules and read all the responses before responding myself. I happened to respond under another responders comment. By the time I read them all and went to respond myself, I really had little to say. The starter of the discussion commented under my response to a response.."why couldn't you have put this in your own response. I would have given you BR." Go figure.

Thank you sid, I totally agree with you about the point not repeating question that have been answered before previously..I have honestly read some responses even from some of the mylotters who have responded to my quiry who has said some of the same things that another person said in thier response...I never thought they copied anyone response , I read it as their opinion as well as the next person... Like I said...my response is to respond to the initial post...I very seldem respond to someone else response because who am I to question anyone elses opinion...I make my comment to the initial post..now in reading someone elses response I will add to that reflecting on I agree with that person response...If I don't agree with them who cares, its their opinion and everyone has one...so I don't feel the need to respond to a post just for the sake of responding..I only responding when I think I have something positive to say, either from knowledge or experiences. I don not get in discussions about things I know nothing about, I will not join a discussionn that I am unfamiliar with.... I have made it a point not to copy anyone else response because it would not be mind it would be someone elses...I do think for myself and have no reason to copy others respoonse.. If I am missing something then forgive me for not understanding... I have read all responses, and thanks for the reply's....

Maybe I am going about this the incorrect way...I for some reason thought we were to respond to the original post, I never knew we were to respond to responses...Help Help Help!!!!!!

Like Mike said, yes we are suppose to and I do, the first page..That is why I try to reply as soon as possible after the discussion is submitted, because if one has many pages of replies, I don't have time to read them all...

Ok carmelanirel, suppose you have there are 20 responses to a post you are saying you read all those post before you respond...then after reading them all you respond..wow thats a lot of reading just to give someone an opinion or even give them the knowledge you have on the subject and would number 15 responded the same was I was going to somewhat.. I am not suppose to respond... I have to admit that I do not read all responses because I am giving my opinion and if that means the person who made the post read it more than once , it may be more of an impact... It just to time consumming to read them all....but as you said we are suppose to read all the responses before we respond, then you say you don't have time to read them all....

I said that we are suppose to, it is in the guidelines, and as there are 10 posts per page, when I said I read them, I read through the first page, and if I have time, scan through the rest, or I just comment, so I admit I don't read each one, just the first page and that is why I try to reply when the discussion is first made, then I will just have a few to read. Besides, one can scan and still get the idea of what one is saying...

Yeah bjc66bjc, according to the myLot discussion guideline, we are suppose to respond to a post only after we have read all the responses available. This is to avoid to repeat the same content or duplicated. I sometimes don't read any of them if lacking time and sometimes would read the first few responses only. How nice if we were to be the first one to drop in a new topic so that we don't have to spend extra time to read others responses. Anyway reading others responses also would affect our thought sometimes I suppose. When I come across any interesting topic I would like to express my thought as well as idea and feeling in my own style. And it would be a great fun to have back and forth comments as well to participate in discussion topics which I'm interested Happy posting and have a niceday

Relevant content is what gets you paid. If you don't read the other responses and don't post relevant content that hasn't been posted prior to your, then don't expect to paid. I've found I get paid for almost every post I make because I try to post relevant content and not repeat what others have said. If I can expand on someone's comment, all the better. Thanks for the discussion.

Yep, I do read them especially when the topic posted wasn't that clearly worded. Not all of us here are native English speakers so there are times I get a little perplexed on what the topic is. So I sometimes wait for one or two responses before I post my comment just to make sure I understood the point being conveyed in the discussion. Besides, I've been taught not to just butt in a discussion until I know what has already been said :)

Yes, I read the responses before joining the discussion. Actually, there are discussions where I read the posted comments even if I don't participate. There are some very interesting discussions specifically on the political issues of America. However, much that I would want to join the discussion I am hindered by my lack of accurate information on the topic.

I also read some responses that I don't respond to because I don't know something about everything which means I might not have any input for the discussion but I might also learn something from the discussion. If I don't know anything about the topic I don't join the discussion. That would not make a lot of sense to me.

If I was going to be joining in on a discussion I'd read from the site, then yes,I'd read them first...I'd prefer to check I wasn't going to duplicate something someone else had responded with..

I'll be honest that there are times when I don't read the responses when there is page after page after page of responses. I barely have to participate as much as I used to so It's easier for me to not read all of them. Now that I'm back to participating I tend to read the first page of discussions and quickly skim through it. I try not to be repetitive because of course everyone has a different opinion on a topic and a different way of stating their opinions, so I hope that I haven't been repetitive. But I think that at one point most of us have at leat responded to one discussion where we haven't read all the responses.

my first reaction is to respond to a post as if i am the only or first person responding. that way i feel i give a better judgement of my own thoughts and not of others, even though others may have written similar. i will after read other posts and if i fee necessary i will comment on one and apologise or agree their points if it is similar to mine. if you read other posts first you run the risk of having your mind swayed by someone else's comments. so for me its best to say your mind first then read. :)

Well not every time like your current topic is like a discussion each member can have there own views so no need to read all the other responses before posting our own but sometimes there are discussion which are kind a like question answer , like how to do stuff and others, so there i usually read all the responses and make a comment and if someone has already answered i don't post there as that would consider to be duplicate

Well I do read some responses but not necessarily all. Imagine if a post has 20 responses and I read them all. It would probably take me forever. At least I read the responses visible on the first page. Besides I don't think we will have an identical post with someone else as long as we write something from our own mind not a copy paste entry.

Hello Bjc66bjc, I do read responses before responding to the discussion the reason is simple i don't want my response to be repetitive. And also that's what the guidelines say we must read the responses first before responding to a discussion.

i do pretty much the same thing. I get my discussions and responses in my inbox and if I had to go read all the other responses I would never get anything done. They do ask us to but i just don't have the time.

Hi Bjc, i always prefer to read and understand the content of the discussion before i was to respond to it. I am trying to make sure that my reply is not off topic and makes the discussion starter got confused by it. I like to respond to discussion where i have the knowledge to share. That's why, you may see that i am a bit slow in responding to the discussions. Hope my way of responding is always be accepted and welcomed. Hope you are always doing fine.
