boxes

So when I get home I think I'll bring home some boxes with me, that is if I can remember to do so. Then I'll get started on putting some like things together and have it boxed up. This will also help me figure out what I have in the way of kitchen stuff. I know I have some, and I know I have plenty of comforters for the bedroom.
I have a lot of things from my mom but it's been over a year since she passed and i've forgotten what all I have if I even remember what all it is. A lot of it was things my grandmother picked up when she went over and I didn't.
I am actually getting into this packing spirit, I want to have what needs to be packed packed, wash some things and have them ready for goodwill and then one week when I have some money to buy dishes, I'll go drop off the clothes and buy some dishes from goodwill in one fail swoop.
Having everything packed will also help me figure out who I need to call to help me move when I do get to that point as I know one friend said she'd help and I am sure another one would as well if I ask her and she has a weekend free to do so.
I know I have $3000 more dollars to go (give or take because I do have a litttle saved) but having things organized will help keep me motivated to my goals and also give me an idea of what I can get rid of.
Have you ever "pre packed" way before a move? I'm hoping I can ahve everything saved by April.

I've moved many times, but I've never perfected the art. I always end up missing things or not having enough space to take everything with me. I've found that having a boyfriend moving along with me doesn't make the packing experience any easier, either; in fact, I think this most recent move was the most difficult one to date.
Three thousand isn't that much in the grand scheme of things. You should be able to have it saved up within a couple months' time.

I've moved with my ex once and it wasn't that bad because his mom helped us a great deal. Actually she and he did that packing while I stayed with his great grandmother as I was her sitter and she needed someone to stay with her.
I think I can have the three thousand saved within a month and a half's time actually, I'm factoring in what I earn at work versus what I can earn online. I don't have many expenses and I am about to polish off the most expensive.

Oh no, couldn't have anyone help me pack that would do that. That's not help at all.

Oh, I think my boyfriend's mother would have been happy to... um... "help." I would've had to keep rescuing things from the trash, since she thinks that everything should be thrown out.

After moving many times in my life I would like to advise you to name your boxes affecitively. Use keywords that will remind you of what is in each one. You may think that you will remember but you probably won't. I put what room and then under that any keywords to remind myself what is in each and every one.

Everytime I've moved I've well, done it in plastic bags or in boxes that were open so no need to label. Of course these were quick moves and a one day pack and go thing. I actually have packed things up to be used later but well... that's not going to happen anytime soon, well at all, but I'll say anytime soon because.. well it doesn't matter. In any case I've labeled thing and usually my style is "kitchen" and then put a few of the important thing that are in it listed on it.
It's not a bad idea to list what is what so I know what to unpack first. Like I plan to buy paper towels and the such for storage so list that "paper towels", I'd open them first to put away quickly.

I remember one move I made with an ex was all done in the big black garbage bags. So all I had were black bags all around and had no idea what was in any of them. I would much rather have most of my things in boxes with some info on them so I know what room, what might be in them and etc. Makes for quicker reset up.

Wow~ You are so organized about this! I am proud of your planning on this. You should write a step by step article for a paid site, you might be able to get some extra money items that you will need. Look them up though. I dont think I can put up any specifics. But anyways, I wish that I had been better about that when I had to move. With you being that organized it will make your move date a breeze. I really like to shop at the thrift store that is right by my house. Its called value World. What is the one called that you shop at? I also donate things. I just wish that you could trade items. Like what you donate you can get a certain number of things that you need. I wish I could open a store and do that.

There are several around me, Mega Thrift, Ollie's, and GoodWill. There are also salvation Army's. I shop at goodwill the most. I may actually write an article to get me a little bit extra money, that'd be good and helpful for others too. Might just wait until I get it all accomplished so it can be from start to finish. There are things you can do online to "trade" not really donating but it works the same, just have to be more careful. You're concept is a good one, like a store cred, donate so many things get store cred equal to the value of the donated items. But it'd be a charity business, so not easy to operate, money needed.

Other than college, I never really new way before that I was moving. So other than college, no I haven't prepacked way before a move. Interesting, sounds like you're pretty "on th ball" and into planning. Which is very good, esp. in this day and age.

I have so much stuff that needs to be gone through that it pays to have everything organized before hand. I am also going to be working hard to earn the $3000 online and offline. I've figured out that I only have one more major expense before I can save a whole lot of money from my paychecks. Anything I earn online will go into a checking account I am going to have open tomorrow and it is a bit higher yielding in interest. I'm not sure if the interest will build before I have a chance to take it out, but it will be my "putting $3000" in account and I will pay my rent from that one. Any other online earnings from the future will go into it and so I will have enough to renew my lease and stay or move up to a bigger apartment maybe.
I've thought a lot about, and the ball's slowly rolling but atleast it's moving. Me getting organzied makes it move faster and keeps me motivated to earn as much as I can.

Times I have moved in the past, I've not been as organized either. This time I need to be because it will be more I'll be moving. I'm hoping to pack the boxes as sufficiently as possible, as heavy as possible, but as safe as possible as well. My sister packed her whole house in one day and I think unpacked it in much the same and she had a whole lot of things to pack and unpack.
I brought three boxes home and had planned to pack a little but I also need to earn. I may leave the packing for days I have the whole day off. I do have two things I know can go in a box, but trying to think of what else I can put in the box with it, nothing comes to mind quite yet.

I haven't moved very much either so can't really comment. Not sure what the 43,000. means, maybe I have missed something, since I'm new in here. I wish the best of luck with your move though and hope the pre-packing helps as far as time and money.

I am in The US. I don't make enough a month to get the apartments that I want but they said if I can have atleast $3000 in savings they will let me move in. The $3000 is the amount I will have paid after six months of living there, so if I have that in advance they know that I will be able to pay for my stay.

So much of the stuff is just sitting and collecting dust. I figure why can't it collect dust in a box instead? So I am going to work on organizing and figuring out what I can pack up. Have it packed up in a corner somewhere.

I almost never move, so no, I have not prepacked. I think you are pretty smart to pack up stuff you do not need.

GG,
There is so much stuff I don't need that just sits out, I can pack it up and be sure that it is safe in the boxes. This will also help me not forget anything, though if I do it's not like everyone's moving, my family will still be here.

I'm actually the opposite! I procrastinate.
I remember moving to this house where I live. I started packing like a month before the move, but after a few boxes, I then kept putting it off. I think it was just the night before when I really stayed up a few hours to get everything ready for the move.

I am usually the opposite. I am the one who waits until she knows we are moving and then things get rough because I am under so much stress. I remember the last move (which was in October) I had packed up until the last day and now that I look back I should have been packing as soon as I knew because it had caused stress on my husband and it resulted him in the hospital over night. I think it is great that you can go through things now and decide what you need to keep out and what you need later. It keeps you very well organized. Just be sure to label each box (I made the mistake of not telling my husband to label each box and as a result we have many unlabeled boxes). It is hard to know what is in each box. Right now my stuff is in storage since we live with my parents and it is costing us money. making money is hard and I am trying hard to make money as well. I am hoping we get all my husband's W-2s soon so we can file our taxes and that money will be put into my savings account. I wish you the best of luck.

Hi SomeCowgirl! I haven't tried serious packing yet as I have never moved out of the house my entire life! But when I do, I would also want to pack in advance so I can have everything figured out and so I will make sure that I will never leave anything behind
There are now different colored boxes, so what I will do is I will organize my stuff and put them in colored boxes according to their category. That way, it will be easier for me to figure out what's inside a box!

Wow, you're really good at organizing your things. Moving is kinda hard, because you need to look for things that need to be packed. But seem to me you've got some skills. I haven't tried moving, but i am, for sure i'll pre-packed. I don't want to get things messy and complicated.

If i have a plan to move somewhere else, i always packed my things way ahead of time just not to miss what i need to bring. the less needed one will be sent to a charity or to goodwill or thrift stores.
