Ok..whenever they show us a ghost out here - in the movies, television programs, or comics, it is that of a woman (I am sure those ghost story writers are essentially men and they are terrified of their wives ), and she wears white SYNTHETIC sarees, and has open hair that is uncombed (sometimes mine looks like that too - honest), but the face is so grotesque (mine is not as yet ). Anyway, wonder how the film directors come up with such image of ghosts, and why is it that I dont find ghosts in India talking German, French, or even English..I mean that should be easy for them if they can move winds, and trees, and cause havoc all around, right? And they dont wear jeans, or salwar kameezes, or even dresses but those white sarees..not even a nice printed saree? Surely there are adequate textile designers and textile manufacturers up there by now to supply some.. One thing is certain, I dont want to be a ghost. I love pinks, peaches, yellows, greens, purples.. Ok your call, do you believe in ghosts, have you come across any in your life, and how do you think a ghost would look if you ever came across one. :)

I do not believe in ghosts and yet should I hear a sound in the middle of the night from a source where there should not be any sound per se I do get scared. I know that sound is not that of rats, nor robbers not even snakes. Why pray then do I get scared?

The moon exists throughout the day. It is only not visible because of excessive sunlight in the day time. Those sounds may be around even in daytime. Perhaps you just become more aware of them when everything else is silent. :) That does not mean that I am a fearless person. I too am scared allknowing. Even though my rational mind says ghosts dont exist. It is because we have been fed these stories when we were young. So we have accepted the possibility of their existence at subconscious levels. Strange thing is we dont give equal respect to the fairies, and other good spirits. :) Perhaps, we are getting carried away with the stories..?

As a child I did believe in ghosts and we cousins who got together during holidays mostly at our place used to exchange ghost stories in the night and then rush to sleep with mother giving up our own beds! And now even though I don't believe, the fear as you say still exists.

I call "foul" on both you lovely ladies! Aha! You see, it is right, rational..and accepted in the intelligent world, to say; "I don't believe in ghosts," but I would bet my worldly goods that if we excavated your sub-conscious...you are so uncertain and that is why you have fear--fear of the unknown...and your practicaly side still questions your intelligent side! (I am being the "pot stirrer" this morning, as "allknowing" needs some controversy..LOL!) Now...if you were "simple" like me, things are uncomplicated...I DO believe in ghosts and angels..as often I have been in the presence of intangibles..AND have had that presence, on occasion, validated by other humans! People mostly, downplay their encounters, as they seem so unacceptable! I have NOT had vision of these intangibles...but their deeds/actions certainly validated the fact that they were THERE! I could, for hours..enthrall you both with stories of the ghostly/angel deeds! But the question I cannot answer is the dress mode!

I was not at all believing in ghosts, until I rented a haunted house 20 years ago. I was there since 2 weeks, when I have been awaken by somebody walking in my bedroom from a window to a chimney and back. I switched on the light, but there was nothing else than the noise of loud steps... I stayed in this house during three years, without a month where I did not heard these ghost "noises", walking, climbing stairs, slashing doors and even cooking in the kitchen. I tried to trap it during the first months, putting flour here and there to see footprints : I saw nothing, but I recorded the noises, and they are real -- some of my coworkers heard them too --. I never heard a ghost before, and never since I have left this house. I never saw this ghost, and I cannot say how he was dressed.

Morning, top...I, too was fence-sitting on the subject, until I once rented a home, here that was inhabited with a spirit! Being mostly alone in the house (my ex, an airline's pilot & mostly away)never encountered the activity that I did...But my SIL came to stay! I found her one morning, face white as a ghost (lol)...she did not want to talk about it, but she eventually asked me what I was doing making coffee in the wee hours..and playing the piano! Other weekend guests smelled the coffee, heard the piano, had unexplicable assistance in making the beds...and when my god-daughter came to live..she was adamant her play-pal, the one she talked too, danced with, played with and called "Polly" existed! She would constantly asked, "can't you see her?" Well, you guessed it, I inquired of the "old-timers" here on the Island, the history of that home! The original/owners/builders..the Goode family, had a daughter--named Polly..who had a "Conservatory #5" in Piano..and had passed inexplicably in the home! I, TOO BELIEVE!

Aw topffer..sounds. :) Sorry about this but I do feel that house design, location, source of ventilation and light, and of course the size of the house has something to do with it. In day time, these sounds are overridden by other sounds this is the reason people do not perceive those sounds. I feel many people in the west have come across spirits in their homes. This may be because their homes are larger, windows are larger, winds may be stronger, or chances of some tree leaves rustling or any nocturnal rodents moving around are more. Strangely, spirits never stay in congested accommodations. Wonder why. :) This is because there is less scope for wind moving any chimes or other things. Another factor is our imagination. We've read so many stories and watched so many movies and television serials that we are mentally on alert for such things. So even the bravest of us would not be ok with living in any haunted home. :) It is because our minds can transform simple sounds into whispers. And we can condition our mind to believe what we expect. Remember the art of positive thinking? So if I stand in the front of mirror everyday and tell me that I am good looking in due course of time, I will feel that way, and will start wearing clothes and hairstyles to look good. :) Its something like that. But then, it is fun to believe that they exists. Who knows they will come to our aid when nothing else is coming, right? :)

I was like you before I experienced it by myself, but everything has not a rational explanation. When you hear a closed door slashed near you, or pans happily colliding in a kitchen during 10 mn, it is not wind outdoor. And if it is imagination, my cassette recorder had the same imagination than me. Some of my coworkers laughing at me when I was speaking of 'my' ghost, came for a weekend ; half of them left after the first night white with fear, asking me why I was staying there... I see you don't respond to Perga's story, which is more interesting than mine, because several persons saw the ghost and the ghost has been identified. I suppose you have to face something similar to believe in ghosts...

Lol....interesting observation. I have to say that I have seen a few Malayalam movies where the ghosts do wear printed sarees or dresses...and I've even seen 2 movies where the ghosts are men! I have a simple explanation for the white. It's easier for the director to stick to white where they don't need to bother about the tastes of ghosts. And as far as the looks go, the scarier the better...then what's the difference between a ghost and us?:-P I've never come across a ghost though I've dreamt of a few. Can't remember if I saw them in white.

For as long as I remember, it is the lady in white. :) Her hair open, and straight, some strands on left, and some on the right. Ears, nose, throat, devoid of jewels, and nails long but shapely. Luckily the director remembers not to paint those nails. The eyes are scary as hell as if something is gone wrong with the eye muscles..wonder how they can see all around without those eye movements. May be they get a new eye somewhere else.. Honestly, even if we meet one we wont know one because we are so preconditioned to think it is going to be a lady and a lady in white..:( Hope if ever I meet one I meet a good ghost..list casper..no bad ones..:)

lol! Ghosts do seem to have a strict dress code. Maybe the directors do it that way to distinguish them as ghosts. Like how a cowboy has a certain look, or a knight, or fairies! You can only distinguish characters by how they look. Especially ghosts, you don't want your audience now to mistake your ghost for the fashionista.

Hi Aai.. Neither i believe god nor ghost. Our villagers often say that they have faced ghosts several times and i asked where? they told me about some places and me and my friend waited for a long time in darkness to have a autograph of ghost, but nope, he did not come. i think he was busy in shooting of a film made by Ramsay brothers. lol Have a nice time.

Hi vandana I saw one hindi movie in 3d a few months back with a Male as the Ghost(okay, he had some affiliates who were women) For Indian Ghosts to speak in French or even German... well, most of those ghosts belong to the oppressed families and such people dont have a chance to visit any of the Foreign Lands. Their Ghosts could but then the Ghosts too are scared to travel to Foreign Lands(i guess). And one thing they are pretty sure... if they talk in a Foreign Language, who will understand them and get scared If I ever meet one... Sure. Hi, Coffee? I would love to meet one ghost for sure in the lifetime. I would like to go on a learning date - to learn how life is on that side, just in case at a later time, I am to choose...

Come on, not french or german but ghosts must have a language that is different from ours! Dont you think? We all have different languages ..there is Mandarin, there is Hindi, English, French, German, Italian, Sinhalese, Russian, Japanese, ......and scores of other languages. So if we, as live humans speak so many different languages, and dialects, how come ghosts talk to everybody in the same language..and yes, why should ghosts be afraid to travel to India ..they dont have to pay air fare, right? Me too. .but only only good ghosts. Like casper..right? :)

Even though I have not come across any ghosts in my life, I still believe that they exist. Currently, I am reading the book by James Van Praagh entitled "ghosts among us". The book tells us that ghosts do exist and they prefer staying on places where there are a lot of people and not in the cemeteries as we normally think. I have also learned from there that most of the ghosts influence our daily lives and that they also help us from time to time. Personally, I believe that even though ghosts do not appear to us like what horror movies show, they talk to us through dreams..

I like the news that they help us from time to time. I remember Patrick Swayze 's role in ghost. I agree, I feel the breeze, just as I feel right now that something good is about to happen to me in a couple of months. :) Lets see..if my feelings are because of ghosts.

Hi vandana.... Hahahah lol. You are funny, yeah. Most ghost in the movies are woman, and the man is always the murderer. Ok that's all, end of the story . Oh, I remember one horror movie, Nightmare on Elm Street. The ghost was Eddie. Yup that one has a man as the ghost , nice. But female ghost are always more scary. I don't know why, is it in their gene or what ? lol. If I were the film director, I'd dress the gost with Dior or Gucci so the spectator will be jealous lol. I've never seen any ghost yet, never ever and I am not interested in them. Most of them are ugly (some says like that). I just can hear them, sometimes I hear their laughing, crying or barking but never see them. It is not a good idea to see them, thank's that they don't like to show off in front of me lol.

Why do they make them look scary I dont understand I mean if they are still wearing the clothes as we wear them, then their faces should be as they were when they were around, right?
