How many time have you changed your AVATAR ?

There are many here on Mylot who do not have original avatar, I mean even if they have they are fake. Only a portion of the users are committed to the word 'avatar' over here. Now my question here is , fake or real how many time you have changed your avatar and why? Is it for updating or to put a better one? I have changed my avatar several times it could be more than eight times so far. Whats your story? Do you feel accepting friendship request to one who does not have an avatar? Personally I do not like. Though at times I have approved. If you have not put your original picture why have you not? Why some of you put a flower or an animation, or some object or a picture of celebrity? Is it that you want to remain anonymous here?

I have never used in a site my real photo for an avatar. My avatar is a caricature of a forgotten 19th century French writer that I enjoy -- it has been drawn in 1843, when he was 25 --. I have never had another avatar here, and I took this one when a friend said me that I needed an avatar at myLot to have a personality. Anyway, I think it is better to not change often to be able to identify more easily who starts a discussion when you browse the directories.

I want to keep everything in private and I will only share my photos to my family and offline friends. As you can see I don't have an uploaded avatar. I'd rather use pictures of places or other things as my avatar but not the picture of other people or celebrities.

I have used the same avatar ever since I joined MyLot four year ago. I am an artist and my avatar is picture of one of my paintings. If I change it one day I am probably going to pick another picture of a painting or a photo of myself. I am a member of many different sites and on some of them my avatar is a photo of myself. I wouldn't be afraid to use a photo of myself on Mylot as well, but so far I have chosen to let one of my paintings represent me. When I get a friend request it is not important to me that he or she has an avatar, and I also accept friend requests from members without avatars. An avatar makes it easier to recognize the member, but I never reject members because they don't have an avatar.

Hi Porcospino, Nice knowing that you are an artist. Artist have always been fascinating to me. Now for your using the avatar I must say that you have not changed yours since you have been here on mylot. As you are on my friends' list I have observed you sticking to the same one. This is also refreshing to know that you are not afraid of putting up your actual photo if necessary be. Thank you for sharing.

I'm sure the big reason is that most people want to stay anonymous. I have my face as my avatar because I really don't care - it's me. But I can understand people being worrysome about posting their face on the internet. I will add a friend regardless of whether they have an avatar or not - I generally look at their post counts (I like to add people with more than 100 just because I have been spammed in the past by people with like, 4 posts, etc) - and I also like to see if their name is familiar - if I have responded to some of their discussions or vice versa. But avatar? Eh, I don't really care! It's just a picture. I think it's quality of their posts/what they write that we should judge them by if anything. . Happy MyLotting!

Hi maezee, na, I am talking solely about avatar and not about the quality of post here. Lets talk about that later somewhere in an appropriate context. Yes, you are not afraid of putting up your original/actual picture as avatara as i am not here on mylot. People say that it is risky to flash one's picture on the net. But there are millions of pictures of the most famous personalities. Nothing wrong has been done to them. So why to worry.

If I find someone has requested me as a friend, with very low activity levels and no avatar, they sit there pending until I see that they become more involved. I have added those with no avatars, but they have reasonable activity levels and I have been involved in a discussion with them at some point or another. Myself, I have a standard avatar that I use on most forums, the one I use here. I haven't been here long, I haven't changed it and I don't intend to any time soon. I can see that some might want to change their avatar regularly for a variation, however I like the consistency of seeing the same avatar. It allows you to instantly recognise people that you have regular conversations with.

You have a valid point Irish friend. Unless it is a real face or picture better stick to the one put at the time of signing up. Because if one goes on changing from one object top another there is a chance that people would get mixed up with who one has had regular interaction. But for me I have changed my original picture, I mean, my actual avatar several time but this has not created problem in identification. Thanks for sharing.

I just put something on originally. Nothing i really liked all that well. Just knew i needed something. Then I found the one I have on now and I really liked it. It has become my premiere avatar on most sites. I really don't think it is up to any of us to approve or disapprove. A personal avatar is just that.

Yes, I agree with you. A logo or a picture speaks a lot about the person if at all that is not a fake one.

Hi celti, You are so familiar with this logo that without reading your name on the top of it I recognize it is you. No, I too do not say that this avatar this is not approving or disapproving one. people have their choice. But if my personal view is taken I would like people to put up their real picture as their avatar.

Hi yugashini, Nie to know that you are not using original avatar on mylot. However there is no hard and fast rule that one has to put an original one. My feel is that if you put your actual one it gives a closer sense. thats all.

Hi krajibg. I have always had the same avatar except earlier when I first started, I didn't have my photo. I use the same one cause I haven't take the time to figure out what I'd rather have. And also, I work on other sites and use the same avatar on those. It just seems like the thing to do in my case. I may change my mind in the future and use something different. Don't know!

Hi chrys, I can understand your problem. Still the good thing is that now you have a real avatar which I like people to put on. Even I am on various other sites and I have my real picture there. However all are not this one which I have put up here. Thanks for sharing.

This is not the only avatar that I have had, but it is the one I used first and the one that I use most often. A couple years ago a friend of mine took some gorgeous pictures of purple roses, and she let me use them as my avatar. I was very honored and thrilled to be able to use them. In fact, if I could find where she uploaded them to, then I might change back to them again ... I think it would be a nice change for Spring.

Hi purple, An avatar actually is representative of the user in the form of a real picture. But most of us do not use real picture. Instead use some objects or animation or faces of other people. In your case since I saw you I have not seen you change into something different. Hope you get that rose of your friend and change your avatar.

Actually, an avatar is representative of a person, but it does not (and often is not) his or her "real" picture. An avatar generally represents an aspect of the person or how the person (or possibly how other people) view that person, but it is usually not the visual image of a person looking exactly as you would see him or her in person - that sort of image would be a picture, although you obviously can use a picture of yourself as an avatar. I am also surprised that another friend of mine has not stopped by my box here and mentioned something else that I had changed my avatar to recently. Perhaps his wheelchair is "on the fritz" again and he cannot maneuver this far into the discussion.

Hi rajibda Well right now, I have me on my avatar. Most of the times, I have myself. Just a few days when I am in a happy mood (like I was recently during winters when I had a snowman as avatar) or when I am sad and gloomy (like somewhere during last summers - Indian Time) I go to something else which suits me or my fancy. I am open, have nothing to hide or shy away from and I dont believe in staying anonymous. However, I dont use avatar as a criteria for making friends here or anywhere though here at the moment only a few (about 3) in my Friends list do not have avatars and one by the name sender needs a specific mention here. Sender and I became friends quite early when I started out at MyLot and the friendship has continued. There is another friend who had his avatar but I dont know why he chose to remove it and use the default one from MyLot. But then, he is ill and we dont communicate much. He still remains in my friends list just because I feel someday I too will be that severely ill and his presence reminds me of my future.

Hi ma brother Chhotu, There is no grain of doubt on what you have aired. Yes. most of the time, wait, all the while you have put your actual or real picture in the box of avatar. The importance of avatar is, I feel an identity, an existence, a vibrating moment, a zeal , a stimulation. I have felt this way. Those using the default avatar have the least impact on my psyche compared to those who have the real real one. I too do not care about remaining anonymous. People know me and I will have control over my language and approach so that my student if by chance have to come across my post do not have to feel shy of. Thanks for sharing dear.

I have not changed my avatar here on MyLot. I also do not plan on changing it either. I have no problem accepting friend requests by people without an avatar. I am here to make friends, money and have a great time. I know lots of people do change there avatar from time to time. But for me I like to keep it because then I am easily recognized.

I'm using an avatar that is based on a photo of me. I think that people constantly update their Avatara on social networking sites like MyLot as a form of expression. Any new idea, event, or even mood can trigger an avatar change (speaking on a personal level.) I tend to keep the same avatar for a few weeks, nevertheless.

I don't put my real picture as I never feel like it. And I rarely change my avatar. The first time I came to MyLot I used a picture of my cat. Then I was mistaken as a man so I change my avatar. This avatar is the third. I think I'll stick to this one for quite a time.
