Why do we women want to shop?

Maybe I'm not speaking for all of us, most likely I'm not. However, when I am stressed or depressed I just want to shop. Most of the time it is not for clothing, it's for food or beauty accessories. I want to shop, I tried to shop on charlotte rousse but it didn't recognize my zip code. I need to save my money and reward myself later so I'm glad it didn't recognize it. I really really still want to shop though. (jokingly) Who want to give me ten bucks? Lol So are you the same as me?

I wish I had the money to shop. Money has been so tight lately that I have had not had my hair cut in over a year (the last time was in Frbruary of last year). I do have the money for necessities such as food and personal hygiene items, but any extras I do not have the money for. I am trying to build up my paypal account as well as my savings account. Today I got my tax return and put some of it in savings which I must admit I am proud of myself. It took me a little while to convince Randy, but he finally agreed. I love to shop whenever I am depressed or stress out which lately has been quite a bit. I also have been doing some cradt projects to help elminiate stress.

I've got so much that I want and need. I need to save my money as I want to get a CD (certificate of deposit) and put $100 in it each month, but the one I want to get is $1000, so I need to get that first. Then let it mature for a few years and have it for what my next plan of action is. If I had any cute clothes to trade I would trade them in at Plato's Closet and get some more clothes, but none of mine would they accept. Craft Projects would be nice, but I'm not much of a crafter. I am glad it it a destresser for you. I've gotten my taxes back and it was spent on something already.

When I was younger I was that way a lot. I tended to buy food, as I felt justified, after all, we needed to eat, right? Now going to stores depresses me, although I enjoy spending my online earnings. I guess it is play money to me. I still get things like vitamins and health and beauty aids, etc. It is nice to have the money to do it with, and I do it through another site so I earn points for doing it, and I also get a percentage as a rebate, so that is one time I enjoy shopping.

I know what you mean. by the time I buy gas, the medical things I need, and food, I have no money left. I remember actually having money to do things with. Now I repair clothes instead of buying new and sometimes the $2 a piece clothes at the thirft store, I just don't have it. That really upsets me.

I am hoping this year turns around for us. Not sure if it will. The income I have now has been contract labor but the company is being bought by a company that will make us employees. In the past about three to four months a year there was no work, but we are hoping that with this other company taking over there will be more consistent opportunities. I am waiting to hear about two different "regular" jobs.

When the former roommate was here, when she upset me, I would want to shop, not because I needed anything, but to get out of the house and do something pleasant, like run my hands through crafty stuff or books or... whatever...

After reading all this responses here, I now realize I'm in deep trouble because my girlfriend is in a very low point right now, and she did mention wanting to buy something. I WOULD LOVE TO BUY IT FOR HER BUT I'm also in a tight budget right now. I wish I could just make her feel okay, but I don't really have so much options.

She may not want to buy it because she's depressed, it may just be that she wants to buy it. If it's a big purchase then yes it's probably a bad thing right now and you should encourage her to wait. She'll feel more rewarded if she waits and saves for it. As for the low point in her life, just be there for her, and let her know.

For some, the act of shopping releases chemicals in our brains that just make us feel better. I have to watch it cuz when I'm down I want to go buy new shoes or get my nails done or something like that. It makes me feel better for a while, but my wallet doesn't like my shopping!

Actually I am the opposite of you. I absolutely HATE shopping, it seriously stresses me out. My husband loves going food shopping, lol. He does not understand why I hate any kind of shopping since most women love it. I really don't know why but my aunt hates shopping too so maybe I get it from her, I don't know...Lol.

I am not the type of person who wants to stay in a store for awhile and browse, but I do like to shop. I could probably shop in under five minutes because I've already figured out what I wanted. When it comes to clothes shopping I like to shop in a store where I know they have things that appeal to my style, or at a time of the year where the clothes are just super cute. So I do HATE shopping but I also LOVE it, it's odd.

I think the reason women want to shop is it's kind of like the primal "hunt to survive" urge. Think about it, women go out stalking their prey (clothing, food, beauty items, accessories, etc), fighting crowds and traffic (following tracks through the "jungle" kind of thing) and finally spotting the prey and killing it (finding that item at the great price and buying it.). It's even better if we find it at an incredible price. I have found that if I try to shop when I am stressed or depressed it doesn't do me a bit of good. I can't find a thing. I usually do outside work when I am stressed or depressed. I shop when I'm in the mood to celebrate. One thing I do manage to find when I am depressed is teddy bear patterns. I don't buy them right away, I wait until I'm in a better mood just in case it's a "buy the most ugly thing you can find" thing. My boyfriend thinks that when I am depressed the best thing to do is to take me thrift shop shopping. It doesn't work as I never find anything when I am depressed. It seems like all the good stuff is already gone. So like I say I usually stay home and work in the yard. If it's a rainy day I veg out on the couch watching tv.

I think it goes back to the gatherer days. We women gathered 80% of the food. The men hunted and fished, but we did the rest. I get in a zone and I really want to shop, too. Mostly from Dec. to March. That's when most of the Holiday and Birthday gifts are. Do you find when you're sad, you want to shop so much more?

To me, as a girl with low salary. Go shopping is luxury thing but it can makes me happy. Usually, I do not have much spare time even on weekends, so when I have time, I will go shopping to buy something necessary thing for daily life. And I feel that buy something like (in most case, there is no use of them) an make me happy and get the depression away. So I like shopping very much.

I think we all shop or do what makes up feel good when we are depressed. Even just a little item that doesn't cost much will help us to feel better. I feel good about being able to save some money at times. Like right now I have quite abit in my Palpal account and feel good about not spending on some of the things I usually do set it aside for.

Some women use shopping as an outlet for their frustrations. ON the other hand when they are happy they also have the tendency to shop in consonance with their mood. It is woman nature.

Ever heard of "Retail Therapy"? That's the reason why we women love to shop. We consider shopping as way for us to release our stress. There is a part in us that we feel good when we buy something. As for me, I consider window shopping as a Therapy. It's a stress buster and it helps me attain a peace of mind.

I also want to shop for something but end up just looking. It still make me feel better just to look. Shopping therapy is bad for my wallet. There's already huge hole in there which draining money for bills each month, I can't afford to add another hole or make it bigger.
