Isn't It Strange That We Check The Time On Our Watch When It's Not On Our Wrist?

Do you know what I mean? I check the "time" whenever I don't have my watch on (usually forgotten to wear it) quite a lot but when I'm actually wearing it I hardly ever check the time. Do you do this? I hope so because I'm going to look very silly if you don't. Haha!

Those who wear a watch check the time frequently, if you ask them for the time right after they did they seldom know the time. So a big part of checking the time became habit. That is why they even do it if they are not wearing a watch.

Yes, it is a habit, you're right.

I have done that in the past. But ever since I have gotten my very first iPhone, I got out of that habit. I now check the time on my phone. I never wear a watch anymore although I have a good one.

I think watches look sexy on a bloke, especially those large aviator type ones!

I have one of those Mavado museum watches. It has a silver band with the black face. I have not worn that in years now. I just rather use my iPhone. I fine it to be for functional for me and besides, I can check not just the time, but the weather and anything else I feel like.

I haven't had a watch on my wrist for so many years that I forgot what it's like to wear one,but it definitely happened to me as well to take a look at the 'time' and realizing that I didn't have my watch on.Anyway, that situation is very unlikely to happen again very soon unless,of course,I make up my mind to buy a watch.

This is funny and interesting in the same time.I usually don't wear a watch, and I check the time on my mobile phone, but my friends do tend to check the time more when they forget to put their watches on.I believe this is one of the weird things in life.Maybe the abscence of the watch determines our minds to check it in an unconcious way.Who knows.

It's funny how I check the "time" more when I don't wear it. I think you're right, it's a subconscious thing.

I think you check the time on your wrist (whether your watch is there or not) out of habit. I've done it before too, although, nowadays, I don't wear a watch.

I think it is a habit, you're right...but I definitely check my "invisible" watch more than my "visible" one. All very odd!

I do that a lot! For a while, I didn't wear a watch (I think I'd lost one and hadn't got a new one yet). I got used to it after a while but now I normally wear mine all the time and do find myself going to check them time even though I know that my watch is not there! The worst thing was when I had forgotten to put my watch on and I had lost my phone so I had no way of telling the time. During the time I had no watch, I spent the first few minutes whenever I went somewhere checking that there was a clock in the room!

It's amazing how we suddenly become obsessed with the time..usually when we're not wearing a watch or have a mobile phone to hand. Interesting!

right after I stopped wearing a watch, I felt "naked" without it and was "checking" it all the time, but now that its been DECADES since I've worn one, I don't anymore.

I know for a fact that if I had a spell of not wearing my watch I'd be checking my wrist (and that goes for a clock at Mum's that's no longer on the wall) but whenever I'm wearing it, I hardly check it at all. Very strange!

I don't wear watches so I am not used to checking on my wrist. When I was a kid, I wear a watch everyday so whenever I forgot it, I check my wrist too so I know what you're talking about. It's because you have been so used to having your watch that when you forget you don't have it, your body have been so used to checking it that you're not consciously doing it.

You hardly notice what you are doing if what you do gets you the result you expect. You notice what you do when the result is what you are not expecting. For all I know you must be glancing at your watch frequently and feel silly if the watch is not there, which if the watch was there, you would notice only the time.

I don't wear a watch, I use my cell phone. But when I did I looked at my vacant wrist. There used to be a joke because everyone did this. "Two hairs past a freckle". I find myself thinking about buying one though. Some work environments don't want cell phones in the office. Even with a cell phone I often think I should buy a watch. After the millionth time of searching all my pockets while walking down the street I have to pull it out and eliminate the glare of the sun to find out the time I long for the day a glance at my wrist is all it took.

I don't have a mobile phone but when I did I rarely checked the time on it. I still preferred my watch. I guess I'm old-fashioned that way.

Oh yes, i have experienced that, because i have always been using a watch ever since i already know how to read the time. So, during those times that i forgot to wear it to the office, out of my hastiness, i keep looking at my wrist to look for the time. I felt ashamed when i saw someone smiled at me when he saw me do it at the public transport.

Awww, it's easily done though and I lose count of the times I check my non-existent watch for the time. Wearing it today though.

I suppose you aren't the only one, even though it haven't happened to me.I am not sure whether it is because habit is a second nature or it is due to the subconscious.I haven't worn watch for ages.I think it is a bother to me.

I do not wear my watch except for weekends that I work. After I wear it all weekend, I check it, when it is not there. Many people check their phones now for the time.

I have a nice gold one with hands and the expanding band. Actually a man's watch, found it in my front yard under a bush one time when I was needing a new watch. I love wearing the men's watches as they fit my big wrists better.

I would much prefer to check my watch than a mobile phone for the time because phones tend to be tucked away in bags or pockets. I'm glad I don't have one because I love looking at a watch face, old-fashioned soul that I am!

No, I don't do that at all. Probably because I have not worn a watch since 1998! I have had a mobile phone since then and have always had the time on that so no need for a watch. So, you are just going to have to look silly all by yourself!

Yes we are back home. Got back last Wednesday. It was a great trip, very hectic but really good. We had lots of fun. I have uploaded tons of photos to my FB profile. The last time that I wore a watch was actually the last time that I went to the USA in 97/98. I had not worn one for a few years before then either due to having a mobile phone, but I cancelled my phone before I left on that 6 month trip and my friend I was travelling with gave me a watch so that that we could meet up at certain times if we separated on or trip.

Hi Bill, are you back home from your trip yet? How was it? I'm surprised you don't wear a watch but judging by most of the comments on here, you're not on your own!

What if I tell you I don't? Kidding! heheheh Well, if you always wear watch and then suddenly forgot to wear it, you can always be having that habit. To check the time on your wrist when there's no watch available... I am like that when I have a watch back then. It's been a long time since I don't wear much of watch. Its very seldom if you see me wearing one. It can really be funny that you are checking time, well in such cases, wear some bracelet instead. Or act as if you are checking if you have scar or dirt on your arm instead... ^_^

I am happy you have a laugh on that. Well, have you tried it already? I mean, it can be easy for you to check on what is there rather than when what's not there, right?

Watches are becoming more and more for decoration as people just use their phones instead.
