Later today at the lake

One of the little jobs we do to bring in income is to get a cabin ready at the state fishing lake for guests. It involves going out right after one group leaves and changing the locks, inventorying the items in the cabin and making sure everything is clean and tidy. We have one to do today. It is seldom much work, but the lake is really pretty. I will go with my husband today and we will take a hike around the area when we finish our work. It is a really neat place to see flowers and sometimes some deer or other small wildlife. Do you ever make your job into fun?

Hi Gerty! That is just wonderful that you get to hike and see such beauty after you finish your job. I don't have any outside jobs. I just work at home.

This care taking job hardly seems like work. I need to do more of the writing jobs as well, though, as they do not cost any gasoline. Between the two of us we are working at four jobs, and then occasionally we will do a mystery shop if it is convenient and profitable. Like when they call or e mail us and are desperate and give bonuses. I need to get outside more as well, though.

I guess I had forgotten that you were moving. When does that happen? I really like being able to make money at home. Or with jobs that do not tie me down too much.

I made $126 so far in Knoji. I have written over 60 articles this month I think... plus I have started mentoring my daughter. She has made $19 so far in Knoji. I have to edit for her, so that takes a lot of time. But I feel like I would be at the computer anyway and it doesn't cost any gasoline, so it's all profit. When I get moved I hope to get walking more too.

What is the latest you have seen? I have lots of experience in group settings as a care giver, but I really think it must be much better to work with someone one on one. My sister did that in Oklahoma, or rather with a family of four very dysfunctional people. It fit her personality really well. She made good friends with others of her clients over the years.

That sounds lovely! What a wonderful thing that you guys can share together. I forget, how long have you two been married? I remember how you met. Which by the way, is such a cool story.
I thought about you two when the tornadoes hit last week. Where they anywhere near where you two were working?

We were about an hour to two hours north of where the major tornadoes were. Two were in our home county, but we were not home and they were on the outskirts. My son's girlfriend's parents were about a mile from one. Two nights later, after ten pm our time, so it was after 11 in New Hampshire, Bob's sister called. She lives in New Hampshire. According to her news channel the tornadoes were happening then, and two had touched down in our town. LOL. Talk about delayed broadcasting. We have been married for fourteen years this year.

That sounds like so much fun. I love my part time job and I give thanks that they rae still keeping the position still open to me when I return back home . I love to check the place, speak to the staff and then just walk to the ocean as I am happy by the sea. I once saw some manateees and that was fantastic. Just waiting on date now for surgery and the lack of stress has increased my general health immensley. Of course I am not forgetting the many prayers said for me and really just want it over and done with. Blessings.

Hi GG
Sounds really interesting and exciting for sure!
I am so happy reading this - I mean when I see people around who get much stressed with what they do as a profession - personally, I always feel that one should opt for jobs which excite them or are a passion with them. Luckily when I worked, I was a teacher - one job that doesnt allow much of "freedom" but yes, I was quite passionate about it and hence I could enjoy it. Today when I work as a website developer, I enjoy that too - though these days, I am all alone at my work being a freelancer and staying at home... still, I do enjoy the great discussions between me and my few clients who do provide me so much newness to learn

Hi, thesids. I find that most of the teachers I know are passionate about their jobs and that is a good thing. I know not all of them are. I enjoy work or leisure pass times that let me be relaxed, not stressed and encourage me to be nice to people. I am not really hard to please in that way.

It is lucky to do a job and have fun at the same time. When I was in retail line, I was responsible for a chain of supermarkets. I needed to make sure the business is profitable and that the store managers are doing their jobs. I felt very satisfactory when we produced the result according to the business plan we set. I worked 12 hours days but I never felt bored or tired because the work was interesting and fun. I changed to another job when our chain of stores were bought by a big national chain. Now I am working 8 hours day but it is boring and no fun at all.

It sounds like you really enjoyed the challenge of your previous job. It is good to have balance and have some time outside of work, but since we all work one way or another we should really have fun.

Any job I do I try and make it fun. I have also did this with my kids. Such as something like cleaning. I turned cleaning in to some sort of game, made it fun for the kids. As they got older.

Doesn't I get expensive to change the locks for every guest? Dad owns a rental cabin, and they just give the key back at the end of their stay.

There is a key for the caretaker. The guests have something more like a motel room. It is made by Schlage which is a pretty well known lock company. There is a key pad of numbers 1-0, and a button that says Schlage. It is a type of computer,I would say. Hubby says "memory system". Anyway you punch in a six digit sequence, and some other keys after than then the new number, then the six digit sequence and some other keys and the old number to remove it. When it is working well it takes about two minutes.

It is a small cabin, but it will sleep six. It even has a Murphy Bed. My brother is talking about coming up and renting it one weekend so we can have a mini reunion with some other family members here.

Wow that was fun fishing and have a trip on the lake. I can still remember when I was a kid we owned a fishing boat and my father was a fisherman. I help them to clean the boat for I know I can go with them to catch fish later. Everyday they went to the ocean to catch some fish and sell it to the market. I enjoyed and got really excited every time I go along with them while catching a lots of fish on the net they trow on to the water. My father was really enjoyed in what he's doing, I really missed that days.

I used to have neat friends and we would laugh and be silly at times. One time I was working in a group that had a really good sense of humor. We would get silly requests being call directors and would laugh and carry on like kids. Glad we had a head set that we could turn off and on so the customer couldn't hear us.

Work goes so much smoother when you get along and when you like one another. Silly is great as well. I think laughter is as good for you as vitamins.

That does sound like a job with some fun times. You might as well be friends with people when you work with them. We have a park with a lake near our middle school and the food service ladies used to go walk around the lake during their lunch breaks. Twice around the lake is a mile.

Doing anything grudgingly will end up in depression. There is hardly anything I do that I do not enjoy - even doing the dishes which is new to me. I have always had maids at my beck and call and now things here in India have changed in that maids are now a rare commodity. The joy I get to see my kitchen platform sp.c and span after the dishes are done more than makes up for the dislike I have for this particular chore!

This is a very compact and efficient place, really we do more things like inventory to make sure all was left as it should have been and change the locks. The joy in this is to see the wildlife, there is a refuge attached to the lake area where there are American Bison and Elk. Lots of wild flowers, butterflies, deer, birds and probably fox, coyote, etc. I also have my eye on wild grapes, raspberries and sand plums, hoping I will get a little of the harvest.

Have a ball GG. You love nature and this you truly deserve.Something to make up for the hard work put in is always welcome.
I remember when I was working this concept was very much there. I had to go to Nepal to make arrangements for an international conference where we were expecting 11 delegates from all over the globe. I had a lot of work to do and this conference lasted 7 days and at the end of each day I had added an event which even included visiting a hi fi casino!

It is really a job that serves two ends. You can not only earn some but admire the scenery. It sounds as if the place you live in is a health resort and the like which attract many holiday-makers and anglers. It is fist time for me to learn that some anglers go somewhere to fish and live in a cabin for a couple days .Over here they usually go and come back on the same day.Can you tell me why you change the locks after one group leaves?

Lots of people go for just one day, but especially with the economy being so tight and gas being expensive, some people are taking their vacations near home. It is like renting a hotel room, only better. And just like in a hotel, we change the locks (computerized) so that the next renters will have their privacy and be safe. There are a lot of people who are very happy when the weather gets warm and they can come out for the day or even overnight and sleep in a tent.

Oh ,I see.I guess there are not enough cabins for guests on festivals and holidays.Maybe they have to have them reservations.Does the price of cabin fluctuate according to the season?

hi GardenGerty oh that does sound like a neat job and the
lake and flowers and wild life , great. I did have a job I
loved shelving media in out local library as I am an avid
reader and the crew there were so great to work with.it was
like working with family. we all knew eachother and worked
so great together. I wor ked in the library for 23 years and was retired at age 80 because the second in comman a new woman did not like the idea of an 80 year old wo man working in her library what they did was against the law as library headquarters fired both women for firing me because I was nearly 80 as they said I did very goo work. you cant fire someone because of age alone unless they are poor workers. well they w anted me to come back but I had a bad fall , fractured myshoulder so badly I had to have shoulder joint replacement and thus lost most of the use of my left arm so my days of working were kaput. but it was a fun job.

A job can be great until supervisors change. That is too bad. I felt that way about Head Start. I was younger then and went on to do other things. When I first started there I was enchanted by the job and a lot of what we did still stays with me.

I have other small jobs that take me to the shopping areas when I am out. That is a good use of your time. In a way this is as much a security job as a cleaning job as we make sure the lock code is changed and the windows are locked and nothing is taken. It is fun.

That sounds like a great little job that you have there. Anything out in the natural environment is always fun.
I have nearly always worked in factories so turning up the radio and having a bit of a sing along or a dance at work always gets a laugh out of people. Sometimes now that I am working from home I still do that, but there is rarely anyone looking who will see it! When I worked on the lifts at a ski resort, sometimes we had a radio and would do the same thing. Guests would love it when we fooled around and had fun. I remember one day a skier kept coming through our lift time and time again because he said we were more fun than the people at the other lifts!

Oh, I can identify with the dancing and singing a lot. It is hard to sit still when there is a catchy tune and it certainly makes the day go better. I remember you saying you were working from home, did I ask you what you do?

I often browsed in the internet for houses or cabins by the lakes/ creeks. They all promised beauty, peace and romance. I think to really live in one of the cabins for a long time would be difficult. But you have a nice job, to combine work with pleasure of seeing all those scenery.
