Isn't it amazing how long Drs. can leave you hanging?

I've been waiting by the phone to find out if I'm having surgery or a different chemo. Whichever one I'm having, what my appointments are. Nothing. Tuesday, Wednesday and now most of Thursday. I think it goes something like this: Monday we spoke to the Doctor late, so he couldn't contact the surgeon because the surgeon was probably gone home by then. Tuesday, the surgeon probably was doing surgery all day. Wednesday, he probably was all booked-up with pre-op and post op patients. Thursday, probably another all day operating day. Tomorrow, probably more post op and pre-op. You see my tests were a surprise to everyone and most surgeons are booked pretty solid. But the Dr. said if we're doing surgery, he wants it done in the next couple of weeks. That could make me jump thru hoops pretty fast next week no matter what the surgeon says. Either surgery or a new chemo could make it so I have to move pretty fast. I have lists of things to do to keep me pretty busy so I won't go crazy. Like building up my lung capacity. Reading a book. Watching tv. Etc. So how long has a Dr or medical professional kept you waiting? What would be on your list of things to do while you wait? I've waiting 4 hours in a waiting room before and saw my regular Dr. jump on the back end of an ambulance. Then get called to the front to have my appointment canceled. That's when I got another regular Dr. Waiting, waiting, waiting.

Oh my gosh the wait can be forever if you let it. For example, 3 months ago I saw a neurologist and they ordered tests. 2.5 months later I heard nothing. I when to my own dr. who wondered what the hold up was and realized that the 'notes' never were turned into referrals. Yep, had to be reordered and now I sit and wait again for tests that were supposed to be completed 3 months ago. Don't let them get away from you. Call every couple of days if you have to make sure things are moving..they can 'forget' too easily about your needs.

I would hope Hematology/Oncology wouldn't forget about me. I'm their star patient. If I hear nothing tomorrow, I'll call them.

You would hope so, but it has happened. My grandmother was forgotten about while in the hospital about her surgeries. I guess it is pretty common, because your dr. changes every day at the hospital with different people on call. Hope you hear from them soon!

Yeah, maybe he gave it to an assistant and doesn't even realize I haven't been contacted. Thanks to you, I emailed him today. We'll see what he answers back. The surgeon could be on vacation or sick for all I know. Just tell me something, you know?

Oh how I can relate with the waiting game, and it gets quite annoying to where you really begin to wonder when anything is really going to happen. I know for myself it has been a waiting game for so long with this wound, and now they have finally done something about it to where I am hoping that this is the answer and the wound finally can get smaller and close from here. As for your situation I know it is a struggle for you as well, and my continued thoughts and Prayers are with you. Let's hope that good things can come from this somehow.

I keep praying for that last sentense. I don't think anyone wants to go through all this for nothing.

I think my sister had to wait a lot on doctors, but it was more because of her insurance being a HMO. The doctors had things they wanted to do, and they had to jump through hoops to get any permission to do so. I am fortunate so far as to not have anything happening that has caused me to need serious medical care. My sister would draw, bake ( she was an awful cook, but she tried) watch television, pray, write journals and do exercises and research. I hope they get their act together quickly for you.

I just emailed him that I really need to hear something. Even that the Dr. is on vacation or out sick or had several emergencies that came in because of a gang fight or a rash of domestic violences or some wild barroom brawl. Just tell me something, anything, to put my mind at ease. I don't want to worry thruout the weekend. I haven't drawn in a long time. There's an idea. The rest I pretty much do quite often. But draw is an idea. Thanks.

I didn't realize that if surgery were the way to go, you'd have to do it in the next couple weeks! Sorry you have to go through so much waiting time - it would drive anyone batty! It seems though, with waiting for health news, it's always the waiting game. It was that way with my father in law recently - day by day. And my friend is having to go through cataract surgery soon - she is going through a bunch of tests because she has so many things going against her - this will be a high risk surgery for her eyes no matter how they look for it - and the waiting game is for sure driving her nuts. For now her crazy work schedule keeps her mind off of it (For now. Hope you get the news soon - and that this waiting business comes to an end. Hope it all works out!!
