I'm still trying to go through with my diet of no sugar, dairy and white flour and it is becoming really difficult to stick with. I'm trying to rid myself of this huge ovarian cyst or at least shrink it down to a smaller size before it is removed. Any suggestions besides fruit? I don't want any baby carrots or celery.

I'm trying to think of snacks I eat without that stuff. Nuts (like almonds or sunflower seeds). Vegetables like sugar snap peas (I like to eat the fresh, fat crunchy ones - eat 'em right out of the fridge) or cucumber slices or avocado. My kids eat baked sweet potato fries (cut up sweet potatoes, sprinkle ginger powder and drizzle a bit of olive or grapeseed oil, put in 350 oven for 20 minutes or when it's soft enough for you to eat). Hope that helps some - and that your cyst shrinks down a lot!!!

Oh I love the idea of the sweet potato fries, I still have some in the freezer, too as a matter of fact, already made. But I like the idea of making my own. I will do those and add the ginger powder as I have heard it helps to shrink some types of tumors). Thanks for the info and the well wishes too. You rock!
I love sugar snaps peas as well, touche! I eat alot of cucumber in salad and not sure if I like avocado as I have never had it but it has been another thing I have wanted to try.

I had an ovarian cyst back in 1980. It took a couple of weeks for them to be able to get me in for surgery so I just went ahead and worked. But boy! I would feel so sick because, I guess, it was oozing into my system. Ugh! Ya, I really doubt I could do without sugar, dairy or while flour for long. Too many years eat them to change my ways now. You should start taking golden seal. It is a herbal anitbiotic and works for colds and such. Good luck to you shrinking the cyst.

Ya, that was icky. Didn't feel too good either. Felt great after the surgery though. I have never had an adverse reaction to any herb. If you do your homework there shouldn't be a problem.

Ooh, I hope it doesn't ooze into my system. I have had bad aches in my legs today and so muh tiredness. I feel tired from the easiest of tasks it seems. But then I did alot today prior to that so maybe that was a factor. For a few days this week I never felt better though after switching to the whole wheat bread, and less sugar and dairy. Thank you for the herb suggestion. I'm always willing to try herbs but also they make me wary too cause of the way they might harm you. My mom said she got reverse reactions from something once and some supplements never helped her.

Cut kale into bite size pieces, spray it with olive oil and sprinkle just a little salt on it, then dry it in the oven on low heat.
Put barley in a dry, hot skillet and pop it like popcorn. It doesn't pop up as fluffy as popcorn, but it has a good flavor. A touch of salt helps.

That's great that you're trying to clean up your diet. I would suggest baked potato crisps, popcorn and granola (make your own or head to your local health food store to find one without HFCS or refined sugar) as some potential snacks. Also, many of your favorite recipes for treats can easily be altered to exclude refined sugar (simply substitute honey, maple syrup or another sweetener), dairy and white flour. Plus, there are numerous sites and cookbooks devoted to vegan cooking--complete with many recipes for yummy treats.

Woohoo, yes granola, I almost forgot. I have some on hand with pumpkin seeds and such. It does have cane sugar in it though. I do like it and wanted to make some of my own granola bars with it. I have some other sugar-free sweeteners, and not the kind like aspartame I have the others that are natural. Agave syrup for one, thank goodness. The next shopping trip I take will be for more popcorn (without so much salt), more granolas, too.

Heard of Quinoa? It's a South-American grain. You cook it in water like rice, and I think it makes a pretty good snack. I have some red Quinoa almost everyday with lunch. I've been able to find it boxed at my local grocery store, maybe you can too.
Other than that, all I can think of are raw veggies and maybe some hummus. It sounds like a really limiting diet, did your doctor tell you to try it?

Hi allyoftherain, No my DR didn't tell me to try it. It is actually just temporary to see if it will shrink the Cyst as I have been reading on the topic myself and all reports show that a diet of meat and cheese make a female more perceptible of getting them. Now I wanted a diet that would shrink them too and I have read that by eliminating white flour, sugar and dairy it might help. I know it's almost impossible.
Thanks for the suggestion of Quinoa, I have heard of it and I have never tried it but am willing. Is it sweet, or just bland? Do you mix it with anything else after cooking it?

Ah I see. If your Dr had recommended it then I would have suggested asking him what you could eat. lol
White Quinoa is kind of bland, but red Quinoa has a slight nutty flavor to it. I don't mix it with anything else except maybe Almonds, but you could try mixing it with fruit sauce or something.

I'm always one for healthy B12 and I get mine from sardines, eggs and salmon.
