Is this not too much?

We have a say, which upon translation is; horse is worth six rupees, but its food is worth nine rupees.
It is too hot here 48 degrees today, my city Sambalpur is going to be the hottest place in Orissa because of rapid industrialization and mass cutting of trees.
Well I have a 2 ton Samsung air conditioner in my room, besides this there are two Symphony make desert coolers and 8 ceiling fans in rooms.
Today blade of the desert cooler broke suddenly, guess the screw had become loose, I called man from servise center, he came with new blade, cost was 8 times compared to fan blades of other make, but it won’t fit, it will damage the motor too.

What made me angry
is, the fitting charge was 250 rupees!!!!!!
So for a horse is worth six rupees, the food is worth nine rupees.
How do you manage with high temperature there?
Are cost of spare part and fitting charges not too much there?
Please share your experience and comment on this.
HAPPY WEEK END TO ALL.
Thanks in advance.

48 degrees..it is too hot...I can understand your case because it is around 40 degrees inside and 45-50 degrees outside in summer time in here.
I really don't know much about air-con, which one is good, which one is bad but you should do maintenance for your air-con regularly. In my office room, i feel cooler after air-cons are maintained...

That is why I don't live where it's too hot. I live in Pennsylvania, in the woods. We do not have air conditioning, we use fans when it does get very hot.

I think you should of just seen what the cost of a new unit would of been by comparison and weigh out your options. Many things are like that.
Our temps are in the 80's for the past few days. The kids are outside with a sprinkler and jumping in and out. Otherwise they go in a small framed pool, which isn't filled yet. For the house we hope to have central air put in but til that day we have two air conditioners to cool the house. Also spending time in the basement helps too as it's often 10-20 degree's cooler.

We have central air in our home and this year it has definitely been going to use because of the fact that the temperatures here have been warmer so far this year than they've been in the past.
With that said, it is illegal to price gouge here and if any businesses are found to be increasing their prices significantly because of increased demand, they can be prosecuted for it.

Professor Sir:
this is what I said you should avoid --in another discussion -- getting anger. that is the case now in almost every field.
Temperature 48 deg. We are not able to manage 41 deg. here. yes we manage by having AC whenever necessary. Again electricity charges are also high -- last month we paid Rs. 6000+ (for two months) . I thought it is ok comparing with expenditure to go to a hill station for relaxation,
I have a godrej semi automatic washing machine-- water level indicator part got broken and I search in important shops --that part is not available .companies do like that so that we will change the machine. this one is only 3/4 years old.
Nowadays labour rates are very high in chennai -- construction labourers are paid at Rs.500 per day. previously we were getting women for house hold work. now they want Rs.1000 as against Rs.600 or so we were paying earlier.
In tamil we have a phrase "Sundaikal kaal panam - sumai kooli mukal panam " --cost of sundaikai (sour taste) is 1/4 whereas charges for carrying is 3/4.
try to manage with no anger or less anger. I know you will do it.
have a nice day.

Professor Sir:
interesting. yes. labour charges are very high and their output is minimal. here they start the work by 11 am. then after one hour go for tea. again 2 to 3 lunch. thereafter another two hours work. that is all. we normally give it on contract. but i saw even contractors are being put into hardship.

Hello brother,
I did the conversion from Fahrenheit to Celsius and our temperature with be around 27 degrees Celsius here today. I don't have an air conditioner but what is called a swamp cooler and because of our normally low humidity, it works well. Wish I did have an air conditioner for the days when it doesn't work well. In your rupees my monthly charge for both the use of electricity and natural gas costs me more than 9000 rupees. Yes, it is expensive. I do use ceiling fans also.
My area is considered to be semi-arid and we have a very high percentage of sunny days. As summer here progresses, we can get several days with temperatures as high as 38 degrees Celsius but usually that is when the swamp cooler works the best because the humidity is usually very low. Without the dampness added by the swamp cooler, nose bleeds would be frequent at the elevation of over one mile here.
Glad you are feeling better and back on MyLot.

27 degrees Celsius would be comfortable.
Yes 9000 is certainly expensive.
Thanks for details.

Oh my it's hot here now in the Philippines, but i think it is hotter there, professor. But in Manila it's said to be so hot and it ranges from 35-38.
Here in our house in the province , we don't use air conditioner, only electric fans because we still can feel fresher by that. And in addition using an air conditioner would mean a higher rate of electric bill.
And luckily, here in our place we are still surrounded with lots of trees. That's because in our neighborhood, there are still some vacant lots.
Don't get annoyed by the high rates of spare parts professor, that's business. And you can afford them after all.
