Or Deja Vu?
Do you,(or,would You) join in on discussions that you have joined in on previously under the same discussion subject, only with a different Mylotter posting it?
Does a discussion have to be a fresh one each time to catch your interest with a new, interesting subject?
Or does it bug you when a discussion search in the Mylot Homepage Search Bar will show right away before you post how many others have been there before and might be waiting for someone to award a best response to?
Would you respond to let them know it's not an original discussion, ignore it and go to a more original one,or zip your lip and give a similar answer as you did the last time?
Just some thoughts on seeing an unoriginal post....
(Passive/Agressive rant over!)

I see the same subject matter all the time. It is worded differently and has the individuals own flair to it. It does feel like Deja Vu a bit sometimes. And sometimes, if the subject is controversial enough, that is a good thing because it needs to be stressed fully. Obviously it hasn't been or the Mylotter wouldn't be bringing it up again.

I won't pinpoint this particular discussion, but believe me when I say there was no flair involved..It was almost as good as a carbon copy of a previous discussion I'd seen-I actually thought it was the same discussion getting picked up again at first until I checked and realized my response to the last one wasn't on the list!

Plagiarizing something would be ripping off an entire recognizable discussion someone else had put some thought and imagination into creating..this was more of repeating a discussion about a quite commonly used phrase..it would seem to be repetition without checking if it had been done before, rather than an actual ripoff..Hence my rant..

If the discussion was almost a carbon copy of the original discussion, then wouldn't that be plagiarizing, which is definitely against the Guidelines and should be reported?

Hmm, I don't think I've ever done anything else but sneak away. Possibly answer something I've answered before and then sneak away.
There's quite a few people here telling other posters what the rules are. Nothing wrong in that, but most of the time, one more isn't really necessary :-)
As for passive/agressive, I think we should go for the one that suggested agressive/agressive *hehe*

Yeah, but I don't wanna be jumping in wearing hobnail boots into somebody's discussion to start nitpicking about their oversight in starting a repeat of a discussion..a bit like I have to bite my tongue to stop me criticizing when I see misuse of words when We're not supposed to do that..and especially when I can't find the blimmin' discussion now that caused this..!

Some people just don't appreciate criticism....

Sometimes I write about the same topic, but it depends on the situation. If it is a topic that I have written about a few days earlier I usually just skip the discussion, and if it is a topic that I haven't written about recently I sometimes respond. There are many topics that get repeated over and over, but they are slightly different, because the person who posts the discussion shares his or her opinion about the topic or describes the topic in a their own way. If it is a topic that I am really interested in I like to read more than one discussion about the same topic, because different members participate and I am able to learn soemthing new about that topic when I read the new discussion.

Having a fresh perspective on an interesting subject is fine,it keeps the ball rolling and brings in more discussion..but if the new discussion adds nothing fresh or changes nothing from a discussion someone else has recently or previously begun, why bother with a new discussion at all, when the subject has already been covered by someone else? Instead of adding to the discussion,it's creating redundancy..

Hi Shepherd Spy,
The majority of the time, I respond to discussions that are original and interesting. If a discussion is repetitive, I don't want to be critical by pointing that out. I generally do a search to find the newest and most current discussions.
Have a great weekend!

I too would search for interesting discussions, but would you ever respond to a "new" discussion you'd see, remembering another with the same or similar topic of discussion that you could as good as copy and paste the response from that previous discussion into this latest one?

I am very much against a passive/aggressive stance ... I much prefer an aggressive/aggressive stance!
I guess that it depends upon the situation as to what I would do. If the discussion is really basically a duplicate of another discussion, then I generally tell the poster of the discussion that it is a Guideline violation and put a link to the original discussion. If it is more of a similar/repeat/poll discussion, such as "what is your favorite ..."
, then if nobody has already responded pointing out the violation I will do so. However, on these types of discussions, especially lately, someone (or multiple people) has (have) usually already responded stating it is a violation by the time I see them, so I will just move on to the next discussion.

hi,
I only search if the discussions i wish to start is aleady there or not. Many a time i find similar headline and so i change my 'to be started' titles. Other than that if i find the topics of my interest, then i do respond.
I must say nowadays i am also following those discussions started by 'friends' but unfortunately not able to respond to all of them. I am not actually bothered about the best response but i look for the indept of info/ gaining knowledge out of that topic.
happy lotting!

I would feel the same..sharing opinions on a fresh subject, not beating on an old one that's been done before..

Shepherdspy:
I do not research whether the discussion is an old one or original one. I simply reply just as I am doing now. A discussion can be made different manner though the topic may be the same. different people see it from different angles. I have so far not identified a discussion that is repeated.

Perhaps it's just Me that has an issue with the exact same question popping up a few weeks after seeing someone else asking it! My views and opinions on the question haven't changed in the time since, and giving a similar response to someone else doesn't quite feel fair..I'm looking for original content to stimulate me,not Deja Vu..
