My company organizes a travel for all staffs in the end of this month. The trip will be 3 day and 2 nights and for sure it is free for all staffs who join it. Seeing its schedule, i think that trip will be very enjoyable because people have a chance to spend nice time and join many activities on a beautiful big island in HaLong bay...
However at that time i can't go, i have to go to my hometown for my dad's first anniversary of a death. I regret being unable to join that travel...but it is OK...I have no choice else.
Have you ever missed a free travel like that?

Hi Ryanong, wow a free trip is sound nice but yes your family is more important. Just have faith that someday you will get another free trip, who knows probably you will win a grand prize. Does your company give compensation to everyone who cannot go to the trip? If yes, you can use the money to have some short trip later. I too missed a free travel, actually my family is going for a vacation and Im home alone. I have to stay home because I cannot leave my university, huftttt its okay education is my priority now.

Oh, then next time, you can ask your family take a vacation when you are off in university such as summer or winter break. so that you can enjoy with them.
ya, I can get compensation if i won't go to travel with my company but it is around 40% of money for travel expense.
You are right, i can use that money for my short trip later...in fact i am not unhappy about it, just regret a bit...because traveling with company, it is a chance to know more and be closer to others colleagues

40% is better than get nothing at all
, Im not sure when they will go to another vacation when I have university break my brother started his school, our schedulle did not match to each other.
hey dont worry, you will have another chance to get to know your colleagues better, its not like you will quit working tomorrow right? so enjoy your time, there is plenty times and chances to be close with your work mates, hang out on weekend maybe?

I once missed a free trip to Lituania. At that time I took a psychology class and our class was going to Lithuania for 2 weeks. We had to work in orphanages, homes for people with special needs, kindergartens etc for two weeks, but we also had some free time where we were able to do some sightseeing. When I heard about the trip I was really excited, because I had never been to Lithuania before and I thought that it would have be amazing to work there for a couple of weeks and explore the country with my classmates.
I was telling my mother about the free trip to Lithuania and how excited I was about going there and she asked me: “When does the trip take place?” I told her the date and then she said: “Haven’t you forgotten something? Your brother’s confirmation takes place that week!” I had totally forgotten that, but I didn’t want to miss the ceremony and my brother’s party, so I didn’t go to Lithuania. I never regretted that decision. My classmates had a great time in Lithuania, but I knew that my brother’s confirmation was only going to take place once and I didn’t want to miss it.

Ya, your brother’s confirmation was only going to take place once but you still have another chance to go to Lituania later, right?

wow! you are blessed employees to have a wonderful benefit from your employer. I dont have any free travel from our company. It is ok for you to have missed that opportunity because you are putting your family first before anything else. take care and I am sure there will be more of those trips in the future.

Really? in here most companies will support a free travel for their staffs 1 time a year in summer time. I think your company should do like that also, so that all people in the company will be closer after traveling.
Ya, you are right, it is ok for me and i may get free travel later..

Mostly i used to join all the trips organised by my family members but once i was the one who missed a trip to veega land. The trip was really intresting and i miss it a lot. My examination was the reason to miss it. Anyway past is past and i make sure that i don't miss those such memorable moments again.

Couldn't remember. I was always present in each travel our company used to have.
Well it looks like there will be a lot of fun and you would be missing it. But family is more important.

I missed a trip once to a relative's fish pond when our family was invited, where they will feed, harvest and sell fishes using their motor boat to the market. I was left cause nobody would watch the house so my wife, mother, kids and our family driver went plus a relative of my wife so their would be 2 drivers because it was a long land trip. I felt a little sorry but it was more important to me for the kid to experience what life is in the province since they grew up in the city so it was just fine

Not really, so I cannot empathize. But I can offer my sympathy, I would hate to miss an opportunity like that. But your reason is valid and unavoidable, so nothing can be done.
I am sorry about your father, my condolences.

Yes, few years ago I missed a free vacation with my patient family because I needed to attend to my husband company outing. I think his company outing was more fun and I did enjoyed his co-workers because they are friendly and accomodating. There are times that we need to cancel some of our activities to prioritized our famiy first. Family first before anything else, after all there is always be a next time.

Yes, I have tried missing some fun when my friends try to invite me. But for me, It would be happier if you put your family first before others. And there is no point in regretting something like that because being with family is much important than being with friends. hehe

I am Ok with it because i think i will have many chance later to join a free travel with colleagues.
