It has been a while since I have posted anything and I am sure there are people here who have been wondering how I am doing, and what is going on. As many of you know I have been going to the Wound Healing Clinic here for awhile now. Actually it will be 1 yr. in about a week or so. It has been an interesting yr. and am I better off, in many ways yes as the leg does look better, but it is still not healed so it has been frustrating. They have done a skin graft that took and really helped my leg, and then they tried doing another type of skin graft which my leg did not deal with, and another kind which made my leg look bad as well, so Skin grafts to help my leg heal is not going to be the thing to completely get this healed. I also had the Vein ablasion surgery which helped the veins in my legs with the Blood flow, but in the latest follow up found there is still some issues which they will probably be fixing the middle part of July or so. But they say that the skin is overall looking better even though my legs are still swelling a lot. So personally, what will it take to get this healed completely is yet to be seen. It is very frustrating having to still deal with all of this, and really wishing it would all end. Somehow someday maybe this will end, and I can get on with my life. I do appreciate everyone's thoughts and Prayers with all I have been dealing with and know one day this too shall pass. Just would not trade this with anyone else. ~~TINA~~

Well, it has been quite painful at times, and other times hardly even phases me at all. Just tiring to see it not healing like they though it would, and no one sure what to do from here.

This really brings home the sayings that "Healing is an art, not a science" and "Doctors engage in the 'practice' of medicine. They never get it perfect." If it were really science, they could give you treatment A and medicine B and you would be all better. I guess we should admit that all healing is really divine in nature and a miracle. It is sometimes a wonder we live as well as we do.

Here they are trying to tell me my Wound is not Bad enough to need Hyperbaric oxygen and never has been bad enough, but at the same time now they are trying to blame it on everything else, and not sure how to ever heal this one. Makes me wonder for sure, and getting more frustrating as time goes by. Wondering what it will take.

hi gardengerty here in California they are using hyperbaric chambers with oxygen to help heal diabetic wounds faster so suggested this to tina in case she has not gone that route. thank God for the wound specialists. I had a rash on my left leg that made it swell and the skin burst and went to a wound specialist finally after fighting this for a year, i too am diabetic. and he found the c ream that stopped it completely. now if I see even a tiny breaking out I order the cream and its stopped in its tracks.so am hoping tina will also get better help now.I am back today after my computer melted down\and took my monitor with it. lol I ha ve a new to me used monitor now.

I've known other people with leg wounds, and they are very slow to heal because of the same thing that caused them in the first place - poor circulation. I'm glad you are healing - finally - and I hope it is soon all better...

Yes, circulation could be a lot of the issue, that is why the doctor who did the Vein surgery is keeping on top of this, and trying to do everything he can to fix the veins so this will permanently heal as well. It just many times can be quite frustrating in the process waiting for this to happen for sure.

Knowing more about you, I do have to admit technology has improved in this area. Skin grafts and vein surgery was not what was available when my sister was alive and I wonder how new this treatment is and has anyone ever benefited from it?

Personally now they are trying to tell me that the reasons the Skin grafts this last time did not take is due to my A1c level being over a 7. How come this is now an issue when this was never mentioned like 6 months ago or more? I think it is just an excuse to try to continue to blame me since now they are at a loss and not sure what else they can do.

Yes, these are charges that were billed to my Insurance, and they never said a thing about these might not work with your higher A1c, which means Sugar levels over the course of time. I even have charges from my Doctor from doing this, which I would Love to question. Funny thing is 1 month has passed since they were wanting to do the Skin grafts and the size of the wound has gone down more than double. They are at a loss for why, and will not ask me what I am doing right. Intersting huh if you ask me?

I'm sorry, A1c? I don't know what that is and if it was something that can be lowered. If it can be lower and they said nothing and went ahead with the skin grafts. . .all I can say is, I hope you didn't pay for it..

You were just on my mind and I was wondering how you are doing. I sounds like you're making progress, that's wonderful news. I seems that there comes a point where you have to look your ailments in the face and say: "Do what you will but I am not going to yield to you today because I have too much life left to live; you'll have to bother someone else today."

Good one there my friend. Personally I have now learned that totally 100% I have to be the one in charge, and do what I need too and see if that will work. Since I started doing this, the size of the wound is continually going down, and things are looking better. And it is really nothing the wound clinic is making me do except for go there and have them gaze in awe.

This wound thing has been going on for over a year hasn't it? It sounds like it is getting better. That is good. I bet if you took some nutrients inside it might help too. Atleast you are seeing an improvement and that is half the batter right there. Keep the patience.

Well, it has been just over a yr. now since I actually started going to the Wound Healing Center, and over 2 yrs. since I started dealing with this wound. I did try other Wound Healing places before this one with this one, but no one really knew what they wanted to do. Now this one is almost at a stand still as well in what to do, but I have been using some stuff I found online a couple yrs. ago, and it is improving again, so for now I will do what I am doing, and hope for the Best.

Well, right now I am thinking things are getting better. To me, things look a lot better than 1 week ago, and completely different than about 2 1/2 weeks ago, but considering I was starting to not feel good 2 1/2 weeks ago I am sure that had a lot to do with it as well, but I will post more after my visit with the Wound Care center on Thursday.

Thanks my friend. Overall I still am having my struggles with it all, and will be Glad when there comes a day when I wake up and know it is healed. Then I will feel it has been truly worth it all.

hi tina I am back now as my computer in MaY did a meltdown taking the monitor with it. took three weekends for my son, who works during the week, to rebuild my computer and get me a new used monitor. so am so glad to be back. wondered how you were faring . we diabetics get the short end of the stick when it comes to wounds.myself I had such trouble with swelling legs I am on lasics daily now. my legs look nice and slim though now. got to pee umpty nine times in the mornings. I finally got the breaking out on my right leg stopped. it took over a year and the wound specialist was the one who knew the right cream to put on it. I hope they can find something to really help your wound. say. have your doctors suggested hyperbaric treatment like they do for the bends? they are doing that here in Southern California and a lot of diabetics with wounds that were not healing had some great results. if they have not suggested it talk to your doctors about that idea of treatment. hop0e things get a lot better soon.

Here they are saying that your wounds have to be a lot worse than mine were even from the start before they will consider Hyperberic oxygen, so that is out. I have even asked them many times. They have used Insurances do not cover it, etc. but they never wanted to try either. Now they are saying they are at a loss since I cannot have Skin graphs due to being allergic, and it makes me wonder why now that is the only thing they ever want to do? Is the Medical field really starting to get this bad?

I know that you have to be frustrated with the fact that the wound is still there well over a year later, however, it is good that there has been some progress in getting it healed. The thing that I always try to remember throughout my life is the fact that we are never given more than we are able to deal with. This has been something that I've had to keep in the back of my mind through the last year because of the fact that I didn't know if I would be able to deal my husband going through his treatment, but remembering that I was in some way equipped to deal with it made it possible for me to get through it all.

We are never given more than we can handle. I know this is what we are told, and I know God does step in when it seems like it is getting too much even though there are many times we wonder. I just would like to be able to say in time everything that has happened has been worth it, and I can celebrate life from here.
