I read from a forum that a local gal has brought a haunted doll from a site in United States. Many people are warning her about it. Mainly due to the concern that a haunted doll is not easy to get rid of, and it might contained malicious spirits. Do you have any idea what are haunted dolls? Who make them, and why they are being sold to people all over the world? Do your culture has any form of haunted dolls?

Contrary to popular belief, haunted dolls are very easy to get rid of. The steps to do so are listed below: 1. List it on eBay. Be sure to mention that it's haunted. (Many people on eBay love ghosts!) 2. Receive payment, send doll to buyer. 3. Congratulations, you no longer have a haunted doll. Haunted dolls are dolls with a story (usually fake!) attached to them. Sellers may tell you that they're possessed by the ghosts of former owners. This is unusually untrue. They're almost always the ghosts of cats. I don't know why cats like possessing dolls, but they do. Look for catlike behavior such as the following: 1. Sitting still for long periods or time while staring off into space 2. Ignoring you when you call 3. Staring at you without blinking 4. Purring in your ear 5. Defecating in the litterbox If your doll exhibits three or more of the above signs, you have most likely been cheated. My culture does not have any haunted dolls, because we are far too old to still be playing with dolls.

Funny response inedible! I do not believe in ghosts so the idea of a haunted doll seems silly. It would seem like a retirement hobby for someone living in Salem Massachusetts or some other infamously haunted place... fake or not. I can see tourists buying 'haunted dolls' each with their own personal story.. someone should call cabbage patch!

Hello inedible You make some excellent points regarding the popularity of ghosts and ghost related items on ebay. Also, if one is exceedingly fortunate and diligent, it is possible to acquire cats as Haunted Doll Hunters. But you have to watch the wiley beasts, lest they turn on you and join forces with the Haunted Dolls. Peace

My culture does not have haunted dolls. But even if someone said they were selling such dolls I would not believe them in the first place. Promotion and marketing seem to have gone a long way now. People just need something new and innovative to catch their attention. That is what these sellers are capitalizing on. In fact your discussion reminded me of a movie I saw last Sunday - Child's Play 2. It has this haunted doll called Chucky that keeps murdering one innocent person after another. But that is just a story. Such haunted dolls are merely dolls with that tag added to them for better sales and since consumers will buy anything that sounds new to them!

Hi Oindy54, I think some people are hoping to get real haunted dolls so that they can give to their enemies. Most people do not really want such items at home, even if it is fake one. For one thing, the dolls do not look cute as those barbie dolls. It is not worth spending so much money for a freakish looking doll. If the doll is really haunted, then we are really asking for trouble. What if we want to get rid of the spirit, and the spirit refuse to leave?

Hi Oindy54, that user in the other forum posts a picture of the haunted doll, and someone did remark that the doll really freaked him out. I agree with the other person that the doll does not look cute. It really looks like a haunted doll. Imagine coming home late at night, and face the doll once you open the door to your room. That is mighty scary, even if it is fake.

Dolls are meant to look cute and if they are bad-looking what is the point in buying them?I agree with you that in case it is truly haunted it can be a perpetual danger for us. I would never think of buying such dolls but thank you for this informative post.

I'm in the US and I've never heard of them. I'm very sure that they are just a scam and there is no such thing as a haunted doll.

Hi Sid556, since you are in the US, and haunted dolls are shipped from US, I am sure there are people there who keep these. Perhaps you can ask the town gossip to relate such tales. Sometimes these things happen right in front of us, and we do not even know about it, until we start to ask questions. Then it seems that everyone knows about it, except us.

Hi Scheng, Now you have me curious. I am going to do a little research on these dolls and also ask around. It really sounds like some sort of scam to me but honestly, this is the first I've heard of it so I've no idea. I'll get back to you on this...ok

Hi Sid556, this is really an interesting subject. I thought people in the United States are not involved in this kind of voodoo or black magic thing. I guess Pageturner is more knowledgeable such thing, and she will not accept any doll from anyone. Just hope you can do independent research, and see if this practice of giving haunted dolls to enemies is as prevalent in your place.

This has to be scam. Even if one is able to buy a doll, it's not haunted. The sellers are only taking advantage of gullible, superstitious people, who should instead save their money for something honest & real. MP

"Worrisome?" No, not for such as I. Christ protects all who trust Him to protect us from evil. So even if this ISN'T just another money-making scam, there's absolutely no need to be concerned. You knew that, right? MP

Hi Maggiepie, actually the most worrisome factor is the haunted doll is really haunted. if the doll is not haunted, the buyer just loses money, and he will get wiser the next time. If the doll is really haunted, and cause trouble to the household, that is a very serious matter. For those who believe in God, they will also believe in the existence of Satan and the bad spirits. What if the haunted doll is the medium for the bad spirit? I think the life of a person will be changed forever.

You mean, like "Chuckie", the old movie from the 80's? I really am not aware about those dolls existing right now.But if it does, it is really kinda scary.

Hi Jenny, I also not sure what is the haunted doll since that was the first time I heard of it. That person in the forum was very defensive about the haunted doll that she was getting from US. From the way she said it, it seemed that many people in US would know about it, but that is apparently not true.

I live in the states and have never heard of haunted dolls. sounds like a good money making scheme to me. There are voodoo dolls that you stick pins in. The theory behind those come from Louisana's and caribbean culture. People get them to either cast a evil spell on someone or to protect themselves from someone who is casting a spell on them There are also monster high dolls - which are toys that look like monsters. Other than that, never heard of haunted dolls- but like someone else said. Sounds like an easy way to make money.

Hi Enjoythejourney, yes, it does sound like a very easy way to make money, as long as you know how to make dolls that look really scary. I think some people just do that to make a living. There might be real things behind all the fake ones. That is the real scary part. There is no harm getting a fake one, since the most is that you lose money. Once you get a real one, and the spirit still to do harm to the family, it is extremely hard to get rid of it.

Hi Scheng, I live in the United States and hadn't heard of Haunted Dolls before now. However, it made me think of voodoo dolls, which are satanic in nature. I've heard never to have one in your possession because if someone makes a voodoo doll of you or for you, it becomes you, in a way, and anything that is done to it is in turn done to you. For instance, if someone were to come and break the voodoo doll's leg, your leg would then be broken. I might've gotten that from something I saw on TV, but I still don't want anything to do with it! I would never accept this "gift" of a voodoo doll from anyone nor would I buy one for myself. I don't believe in ghosts, and I don't fear spirits or anything like that, but I know as sure as there is a physical world, there is also a spiritual world. Humans don't really know a lot about the spiritual world, which makes it quite dangerous. I don't want something satanic in my house either, so I will never have a "Haunted Doll." Great discussion - it really piqued my interest!

Hi JJ4Ever, that sounds really scary. I think the most scary part is when the voodoo dolls or whatever spirits start to mess up the house, then you will have endless problems. I agree we should never mess with such things. Wonder why anyone from my country wants to import this kind of haunted dolls from United States. If the haunted dolls are real, that is even worse than spending money on fake haunted dolls.

It is a load of silly nonsense and will only do harm if the person concerned is silly enough to believe in such nonsense. "Malicious spirits" indeed how stupid can some people get.

Hi Maidangela, I honestly do not care if this is real or fake. No way am I going to spend money to get such haunted doll, and see if it is real or fake. if it is fake, I waste money for a doll that gathers dust. If it is real, then I am buying trouble for everyone in the family. i definitely do not want any ghost or unknown origin staying in the house. I do not wish to hear any eerie sound or see things flying around.

When one is filled with evil spirit he may do what he wishes to do. He turns cruel to others. One example is he may destroy a writer's hope. Haunted doll are media in which evil spirit resides.

Hi Yanzalong, just hope that the buyer of the haunted dolls have no evil intention. I think in Malaysia and Indonesia, many people asked the bomoh to curse spells on their enemies. If people buy haunted dolls for the same purpose, that is very bad of him. Those dolls may look cute, but if they contain spirits, then the buyer and seller are sitting on a dangerous tool.

Why anyone would want a something that is said to be haunted is beyond me. There is nothing positive about the concept and it seems that bringing something like that into your home would be asking for trouble.

Hi Canellia, I think most people buy haunted dolls, and give instruction to the dolls to create trouble for their enemies. They may give such dolls to the daughters of their enemies. Those poor gals will see ghosts, and cry the whole night. I think it is more common in your area, since you live in a place where people are opened to such spiritual activities. You can ask around, and see if others know more about this haunted dolls thing. Just dont send such things to me. You can send to Mommaj, since she is immune to ghosts.

I am pagan and I do not believe in malicious spirits. So, I would tell your friend that this is probably a bunch of hoo haa. Even if there is a spirit connected to the doll there is no possible was it can harm her. A spirit is on another plane of existance. On our plane it is like touching air. Even if the wind is blowing air hard it is not solid we can move right through it. A spirit can even move that fast. I have never actually seen a spirit when my own eyes, I have felt them... and seen the effects of them. The most a spirit can do is knock something over as it move by, but it has to be something small. A human being is just too big to move over. I do know other people who have claimed larger than life experiences with spirits... but everyone that I know that has claimed this also has major mental illness so there may be a connection there.

Hi Dismalgrin, I do not have such power to see or feel spirit. I just know that spirits belong to their own world, and they are powerful in their own rights. It is best to leave them alone, and not to challenge them in anyway. I think there is a possibility that spirits can cause mental illness in people, so those people who claimed to have life experience with spirits probably become mad after that experience. If they are born mad, that is a different story.

Hello scheng1 Haunted Dolls are quite popular in the United States of America. Nearly every one I know has a Haunted Doll and uses them in a variety of ways. Most are purchased or made by the family who hosts them and they become integral in the different successes of the family. The Haunted Dolls may be used as voodoo-type dolls that are planted in rival family homes, usually in the crawl space or attic, but sometimes given as gifts to the unsuspecting. Once the Haunted Dolls are insinuated into a rival family, they begin to have a nefarious impact on that family. If the family who plants the Haunted Doll is adept at Haunted Dollery, then much mischief can ensue for the unsuspecting family. Many times, however, the Haunted Dolls are not used to their full potential. This is due mostly to the family who plants them not realizing the full potential of Haunted Doll evil. If you haven't seen the movie, Chuckie, I encourage you to do so as this is a documentary of the way that some Haunted Dolls are used in the USA. Many homes do not allow dolls of any kind. My home is like this as one never knows when a gift doll is actually haunted. I have specially trained cats who patrol my attic spaces on a weekly basis to make sure that no Haunted Dolls have been inserted there without my knowledge. In the cooler months the cats patrol daily, but it's too hot for them to spend more than a few minutes a week up there now. I usually let my dogs patrol the grounds and crawlspace for Haunted Dolls and I have a decent security system for the perimeter of the property. I hope that the local gal is able to harness the true power of the Haunted Doll that she has acquired. Peace

Hi Pageturner, you are right that I have not watched that movie. That is why the term, haunted dolls, is so foreign to me. Over here, many people have similar items at home, me included. It is known as Kumantong (or Gumanthong). However, the purpose is never for wicked gain. The monks in Thailand are the only ones who can make such items. They will make from cemetery soil, and herbs, and then they will invite the spirits to take up the Buddhism studies, and vowed to help their owners to do good. That is based on the concept of karma. When the child spirit helps us do good, we will donate to a worthy cause, and give merits to the child spirit. That is why nobody will give Kumantong to rivals, and ask the Kumantong to mess up the family. It goes against the teaching of Buddhism, and against the instruction of the monks to the child spirit.

Hi Roshigo, best is not to test out by buying the haunted dolls. The risk is that someone has put black magic in it, and the spirits or whatever want to hurt the family. Even if you do not believe in god or ghosts, never try it. Live your life as it is, and you will be happy for the rest of your life.

Haunted dolls have not really be attached any meaning in my place. When people warn about such things, especially elderly, I think it is better to heed to their warnings as they must have seen the consequences in someone else. I do not even know why people would opt for haunted dolls

Hi Chikezie, yes, I agree that we should heed the advice of the elders. They probably witness some victims of voodooism. I think some people buy the haunted dolls in order to hurt their enemies. They can easily make an excuse and give the dolls to the daughters of their enemies, then their enemies will suffer many unfortunate accidents.

Hi Kalav, do you have something like that in your culture? I think in most culture, there are holy objects and haunted objects. Sometimes people bring those items to the temples, hoping that the deities in temples can control the spirits. I just hope that nobody gives this kind of thing as gift to little girls. The poor girls will see the spirits and cry the whole night. Me, too, think that the haunted dolls are associated with black magic. Just wondering why it is so popular.

A haunted doll sounds a lot like a push pin doll that people who study witchcraft make to hurt another person. Is there hair of a person on this doll? Dressed in a certain way? I personally would not want to buy a doll that was meant to hurt another or could contain any type of spirit. Was there a reason your friend bought it in the first place?

Hi Lmfisher666, not everyone thinks the same way. Some people might want to get these haunted dolls for black magic purpose. Even though it is hard to believe in the existence of black magic, it is still very real in all parts of the world. The victim might suffer a series of mishaps as a result of the curse. I think those who willingly want these haunted dolls have their own reason. The strange part is that the haunted dolls come from US.

Hi Minmin, I do not mind if it is fake haunted doll. If it is a real one, then the trouble begins. The dogs will bark at the dolls, and the cats will display their fear. The worst is when the spirit started to possess people, and make people sick. That is the time when you have to visit the religious leaders, and pay a sum of money for cleansing service. Better not play with fire. It is really dangerous.
