Working overtime can be healthy

I just had my overtime for several hours last Friday. I have so much to finish before Monday office time begins. I often think that overtime can be stressful but now I consider it as healthy way. I enumerated some of my reasons: I'm away with the usual after office Friday gimmicks like drinking liquor all night till I drop and got so dizzy on a Saturday morning. Also, I got to smoke for more than 2 packs in just one sitting. Eating out is another way, away from the fatty foods and too much carbohydrates and sugar. In a way, healthy for the pocket too. Need not to spend too much on those things. Also, I wont be stressed out thinking of my reports during the weekend because I already done with it on that Friday. In effect, I will enjoy my weekend without thinking of work. In addition, I could sleep easily upon going home from a Friday overtime, because I'm just tired mentally and physically. There, I consider working overtime can be that healthy. Any thoughts regarding working overtime that you may also consider it healthy? Any other things that in your impression, it does bad but it turned out to be good and it really worked for you? Thanks

those were great reasons! i could probably list them down! but always remember that you are also putting yourself in dilemma. you are putting your self at risk of many illnesses. according to some articles i read, when you are stressed out, you will be more at risk of becoming sick. so sleep early, have enough rest.

I agree Joe. You are definitely putting yourself from stress. But if you have a not so busy overtime work...then, I don't think stress would find you. You can just enjoy the extra hours and just do your job as if it's just the regular hours. But, this list is indeed a good motivation for us to have that overtime work. To have an overtime work is great but not too often. Happy Mylotting.

Thanks joevanosa. We only extend our working hours maybe twice a week though. But it works for me that way. Overtime pay is good. Thanks smurfysmurf

On the negative side, its stressful when you have to finish your work before deadlines.. but when you're done with it, you'll feel relaxed and fulfilled. At the same time you'll have overtime fees added to your earnings.. even you missed the things you do by going out and having fun that helps you avoid bad habits.

Working overtime usually is not very healthy. It is tiring and it takes a part of our time to rest and do other things. It would be different if you normally have some unhealthy practices or activities after work. Then perhaps working overtime would occupy yourself from doing these umhealthy practices. I would normally just stay home, cook meals, dinner with family and watching television. Then sleep by ten something for my body to rest.

I think it can also be healthy for your checkbook to work overtime if you're paid by the hour!

It is fine to work beyond the working hours, when you are paid for this. But you need also supplement your well-being in taking vitamins or eat healthy food, as needed for your body to burnt out while doing the job per se.

If doing overtime helps you finish your work then I guess it is somehow good because it'll lessen your worries therefore less stress. And at the same time it'll give you additional money to spend.

i sometimes go over time too for like an hour just to finish all the reports and submissions they need from me. i mean i can do it the next day but same thing, it has to be within shift so might as well spend a little time and work in advance for the next day shift right. well i wont force my brain or myself to finish everything. if i exhaust myself, thats when i get stressed.

If you have a job that you doesn't make you feel like you're just a pawn in a larger game, then working overtime really does have its perks. However, if you're like me and every hour that you spend in your job makes you realize that your life is slowly being eaten by the aforementioned corporate monster, then working overtime just adds to that feeling. So yeah, I guess saying that it's healthy is all relative.

You gt a very good point there. You are right that it will be healthy for us because of the reasons you enumerated. However, if you are doing this only every friday, it will be healthy. Working overtime daily can have negative effects on our health. In my case, we have work until saturdays but I did not render overtime during this day because I have already finished all my reports on fridays. We need to present it in our weekly meeting during saturdays. Have a nice day!

I guess there are do's and don'ts. We all knew that in everything we do or take, all that is too much is also not good. The reasons you have enumerated benefits you more I think, because there are certain habit of yours that you want to do even for a while. Also working overtime means added earnings but you must also watch your health because working too much could affect you mentally and physically. I'm sure you don't want your added earnings be used for your medications.

Come to think of it there is something good about doing overtime! It really is best for the wallet and your health since you won't have to do the vices that you always do on a Friday night.

It is also healthy if we concentrate the work only without caring for other matters of the worldy affairs. To attend extra time work is generally due to workload which could be solved only by means of over work.without which, we cannot complete the targeted work and to the satisfaction of the organisation. So,while completing the work found to be in excess by means of doing over work without causing any damage to our general health.so,we have to be with empty stomach with energetic foods and concentration only on the completion of the extra work with perfection.so,we have to plan in advance before sitting to attend the extra work and attend them slowly and also steadily both to the satisfaction of the organisation and to ourself. It is consured that overwork cannot be declared as not fit for health but without adhearing to the above principles which are to be followed necessarily. If one has eaten stomach full and sit for doing work it may lead to have a good sleep without giving way for attending to the work and also leads to imperfection.Further it will also spoil the health and damagingly.

If you can still take care of your regular things in life there is nothing wrong with working overtime occasionally. Some people do it all the time. I agree that I would rather finish a job when I am there and have the evening and weekend free and carefree.

Well if as in your case, overtime helps you get away with those unhealthy habits of yours then I agree with you that overtime can be healthy. It is better to tired and exhausted by working rather than tired and exhausted and worst...sick because of drinking and smoking. For as long as you get enough sleep after long hours of work then that is fine. Nevertheless always remember that all work and no play will make mikyung dull. Play does not mean engaging into vices that will ruin your health though.

Hi there Mikyung! I think you have said it all. And the most important thing is that...you can get some extra cash. (though I would like a not so busy overtime work)... And in my case, I do cope up with what I eat during overtime. And I do eat a lot just to gain some strength...plus, I got to sleep only a few hours that I normally do...so not really a positive for me. Well, the motivation to work more...and the extra cash will help me to have that overtime work. Happy Mylotting.
