Dreaming About Cheddar..

..and I don't mean the cheese, I mean the PLACE called Cheddar which is where the Cheddar Gorge is situated. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheddar In my dream it involved being in a place I used to work in for over 3 years, called Preston in Lancashire, just a train ride away from where I lived in Layton, Blackpool. I was lost a lot in this dream even though I am familiar with Preston itself. At one point I was following a woman unfamiliar to me up some concrete steps to a bus station. Now, Preston does have a bus station but I don't remember any steps like these. Anyway, before all that I had been (overnight) in some sort of club and got humiliated in some way but I'm not sure how. An acquaintance of mine from school, called Marjorie Hulme saw me later and told me that she was humiliated in the same place as she was laughed at whilst reading a poem. Weird. Now, the woman at the bus station told me she was going to CHEDDAR. Quite adamant that I should go too but I refused, even though I knew I was about to be "lost" there in Preston. Sure enough, after refusing to go to Cheddar I went out into the streets and did indeed get lost. At one point I saw a horse on the pavement outside a house and exclaimed, "The people in Preston are very strange" and, at that point Marjorie appeared whilst I was at a pedestrian crossing. She told me the story about her poem-reading and told me something another person had said earlier, that I needed to head for "that big hill in the distance." So I did. Whilst I was walking there (panicking) I went through an alleyway where a load of uniformed officers were marching. A guy with a blue uniform on (Air Force I think) turned round and written in large letters at the bottom of his jacket was the word, CARLISLE, which, of course is where I live now. Then I woke up, sweating. I know being lost in a dream can mean being lost in real life but I have never experienced anything like it, especially the Cheddar bit. Why on earth would someone want me to go to Cheddar? I'd not eaten any cheese either which would explain the dream if I had done. Eating cheese before bed can make a person dream - apparently!

It is odd how sometimes dreams pull from our sub conciouse, I am always amazed at what my mind comes up with in my dreams. I was a little annoyed by something my husband said yesterday and all night I had dreams about him where he was mean to me and we were getting divorced. What he said to me apparently bothered me a lot more than I thought it did because in my dreams he did not play a favorable character.

My younger sister when she was pregnant once dreamed her husband was having an affair with some blond. When she woke up she also realized that blond was her. Oh, and she threw the bird into the fish tank. A pretty cool feat because she had no bird and no fish tank.

Heya janey Dreams do my head in so I chose not to dream. "Anyway, before all that I had been (overnight) in some sort of club and got humiliated in some way but I'm not sure how. An acquaintance of mine from school, called Marjorie Hulme saw me later and told me that she was humiliated in the same place as she was laughed at whilst reading a poem." Did this club involve a lot of leather and latex? Maybe go to Cheddar and see whats up, it maybe a sign

It looks such a boring place though doesn't it? I don't know about the leather and latex but Marjorie Hulme certainly wouldn't be wearing stuff like that, I'm sure. Not to read poetry. Me, on the other hand.. Haha!

Just had another look at the wiki entry. "Cheddar Fire Station has a crew of retained firefighters" Does that mean they were rubbish in the first place lol. Though in saying that I would not mind living in a sleepy village like that. I am sure you have had your fill of leather and latex, it kind of goes with the music. Ahh they were the days

The most disturbing dream I ever had came after eating a huge dill pickle my granny had canned. I guess it depends on the person. Eating cheese makes me sleep soundly, usually. It is all the calcium in it. I hate when I have dreams that make me uneasy, because often it goes around and follows me all the next day. You know, that queasy upset feeling.

It took me at least an hour "to come round" after I'd got up. I was relieved it was a dream too because - at the time - it felt so real, as many of my dreams have lately. I'm not frightened to go to sleep though, I'm not that bad.

Just like Winsor McCay's Dreams of the Rarebit Fiend ... Maybe there's an opportunity just waiting for you in Cheddar?

Just heard on the radio about that contest to come up with an anthem for Cheddar... heard some of the entries. I don't suppose you entered?

I do know someone who lives in Somerset and I haven't heard from him for months. He lives near Taunton and there was a bad car accident on the motorway near there a few months ago..and I haven't heard from him since. It could be just a coincidence or something more sinister, I don't know.

I'm a follower of the theory that dreams have no symbolic, subconscious, or prophetic meaning. They are "meaningless" in that sense, and are merely the result of the brain firing away neurons while we sleep, and so we see strange combinations of old memories, present-day thoughts, movie plots, and then sometimes just plain wacko off-the-wall things that appear to pop out of nowhere. So my opinion is that being lost in your dream means nothing, and someone wanting you to go to Cheddar means nothing. Well, it does mean something... it means you had a strange dream. Eating cheese making people dream? Never heard that one before, but it doesn't sound accurate. Most people dream whenever they have a full sleep cycle, though they may not remember their dream when they wake up. I've heard people connect eating lots of unhealthy or strange foods with strange dreams, but I've never seen that connection happen personally.

Holsten Pils lager can have a strange effect on me as well and I don't need loads of it, just a couple of cans and I'm "well away with the Pixies" lol. However, some nights I sleep soundly without much going on at all..and, last night - funnily enough, it took me ages to get to sleep and the dream came about an hour before I woke up this morning.

I can't imagine anyone dreaming about Cheddar unless it was a nightmare of being trapped in the caves. I mean Cheddar is so dedicated to tourism that it has absolutely no charm whatsoever. It is a place that one would gladly forget as soon as you leave. Now the area around Cheddar is absolutely beautiful and well worth visiting, preferably on foot. It is such a shame that there has to be that eyesore called Cheddar. And Cheddar cheese doesn't come from Cheddar! I don't think many would dream about Preston either!

I know, it's very puzzling I must say. Preston AND Cheddar. What a combination. Well, at least I didn't go to the latter.

huh... so, that's how the cheese got its name... Actually, the wiki link was very interesting and I followed the link to the Cheddar Gorge, that is very pretty. I love caves and wish they had pix of those too - oh well... As for your dream... no real idea... I agree that some things in dreams can mean stuff in life - like feeling like you've lost your way and being lost in a dream, especially in a place you normally know pretty well. However, I have no idea why Cheddar of all places, unless for some bizarre reason you actually need to go there - or perhaps you need to consider applying at a store or something...

Have you heard of Bakewell Tart? Or, Bakewell Pudding with a flaky pastry base,..well, Bakewell is a place as well..and I've been, it's gorgeous. Lots of food over here is named after the places they come from and some are protected as well. http://www.bakewelltartshop.co.uk/origins.php I'm not so sure if you're allowed sweet stuff but, believe me, once you've eaten Bakewell Tart no other Tart will do. Haha!

Needless to say, this is the very dream that you have mentioned you dreamed on Monday.Maybe the concrete steps is what you have seen somewhere in Carlisle or Blackpool.Cheddar Gorge is a karst topography.I wonder if you have talked about limestone with someone lately.Anyway there is no need for you to worry about what happened in dream. As I see it,dream is to reality what the novel is to the real life.

I know I'm boring but even I don't have conversations about limestone lol. However, I have seen the in-laws' fireplace but it's made from marble, not limestone. Close enough!
