I Went and Got A Second Opinion

They were actually able to get me into a infectious disease doctor today, and I was pleased after talking with the Doctor there, as we was willing to listen and see how she could help me. She was able to put me on an Antibiotic, like the one I was asking about at the Wound Center that they felt would not help me, and see if this helps with the problem. She also did cultures as she felt there was an infection going on that I will get the results from next week. She was not acting like this was an Emergency and the only thing needed was IV antibiotics immediately or go to an Emergency room, or be admitted into the hospital. She was actually quite understanding and hoping she can help figure out a way to get everything back looking good. She did make some Good suggestions that I am going to really consider for myself, but will be Praying and trusting and believing God that my leg will start looking like it is supposed to again. All I got to say is I was happy with seeing her, and will follow a lot of the suggestions and advice, and then go from there. Maybe I will find it was Best things happened like this just to get something done again for a change. When the wound healing center was acting like there was nothing more they could do to help the wound heal it was really putting me at a loss. Continued thoughts and Prayers are appreciated. ~~TINA~~

that is great I hope it all works out for you, Stress might also be keeping it from healing and now that you feel better it might get better faster.

Yes, I am sure Stress does not help the situation or my Blood Pressure. I know when I hurt more, or just feeling frustrated it does not help my Fibromyalga either. But good results have happened from seeing this other Doctor and getting the antibiotic so that was a plus for sure.

Way to go Tina, I didn't know you were going today..That is wonderful news and I am glad that you didn't fall for the previous doctors suggestion and that you took matters in your own hands to find the truth..

Yes, it was good to see someone who could confirm with me the Antibiotic I would need to help take care of this, and understanding my dilema and also my frustrations with the wound clinic not knowing what to do. I have seen her once since then, and she continued me on the Antibiotics and wants to see me again in 2 weeks. Thing is the wound clinic also wants to see me in 2 weeks, so we will see what an interesting day this will be.

I am seeing someone at the Wound clinic first, and then the other doctor. I am curious to see what the Wound clinic will do about all of this, and want to work on getting this wound healed, or continue to blame me. The other doctor I will see to make sure the infection is gone, and if there is anything she might have missed, or needs to consider according to what the wound clinic says as well. I will definately post after all of this, and hopefully not a Discussion of frustration.

There is a lot to be said for a doctor who instills hope and those that don't. I know with my own health issues, I rarely stay with a doctor or clinic that won't listen to me and who don't make me feel like there is hope in the situation. I'm a diehard when it comes to my health. I never accept that there isn't something that can be done. I do know that attitude has a lot to do with healing. When the doctor is not in your corner, it is hard to heal. I'm praying for your swift recovery.

Well, I have made up my mind since posting about the One Doctor refusing to help me anymore, and not wanting me really to even ever go to the Wound Clinic anymore I will be making a call or two on Monday, and trying to decide what I need to do next. I just really think personally Doctors need to quit thinking they know everything and not take time to listen to their patients. If this is the New way of Health Care I do not like where it is going.

I am glad that you were able to get in and see someone else for a second opinion and hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon enough and will heal you up. I think it is terrible with so many doctors now a days because they don't take the time to listen and look into your problems. They just want to pass it off give you a pill and move onto the next patient.

Personally until someone takes time to look at the Wound and figure out a way to heal it getting rid of infections completely might be a hard thing to do. I know the antibiotic they gave me really did help, and everything now is looking good, but I continue to wonder for how long, and what will anyone ever do to get the wound healed? Wish someone overall could look at the BIG picture for sure.

I hope she will be able to help you. Women doctors seem to be much more compassionate and maybe she won't blame you for everything like the others did.

Well, my Case manager that works with this Doctor is female and has no compassion so this I choose to differ on opinion that women are always better. I personally have had many Doctors who were Men I would never complain about, so like I said either it is they are having BAD days, or sometimes doctors forget to look at people as individuals and work with them to find a strategy or plan that will work the Best.

From experience, I've found that to be untrue, although I had hoped it wouldn't. It really all comes down to personality & bedside manner, it seems.

KrauseHome: I am posting in your response after a long time. yes may be a few months. happy to know you have gone to a physician who you like. this will certainly help in getting the cure of your disease -- sugar has to be brought down and you have sufficient exercises -- then you should be fine. good day.

Well, I have a New diabetic doctor that I just started seeing, but the main issue is finding a way to keep me from getting infections, and finding ways to help get this wound healed so that my Sugar levels will maybe stay a little more normal as well. It has been a long struggle and a fight, but still believing for a Miracle in getting this wound healed some day.

Thanks my friend. The antibiotic has really done wonders, and I am hoping that this will be the start to finally healing my wound for good. I have also had another Vein thing done since I started this post as well, which hopefully should help everything. It will be interesting since I am seeing the Wound Clinic and the doctor who gave me the Antibiotic on Thursday to see what both of them say and how frustrated I will continue to be, but I am believing God for great things, and know he is always in control.

My prayers go out to you. I think that it is best to avoid being admitted to a hospital if you can avoid it, and sometimes it is best to stay at home and get the medical help; there. I know had my husband been admitted to the hospital, he would have been hooked up to machines. And often simple precautions work best with wounds. It could be that you may be allergic to the medicine the first doctor suggested.

Well, personally I honestly think all this Redness in my skin, and peeling is from one of the other Antibiotics or something they tried giving to me, instead of listening to me to what I know works. I think the Wound Clinic chose to give up months ago, and just had to find a reason instead to keep on blaming me. Makes me scared of the next person who might go there and end up with the Doctor I had.

Well, she is only there as an infectious disease doctor and gave me an antibiotic that actually does help. The interesting thing is I have gotten this antibiotic before, but never from the Doctor at the wound clinic I am seeing now. Next week I will see both doctors, the wound clinic doctor first, and then go from there. Since my leg looks a lot better, I wonder what the wound clinic will do if anything now?

I certainly hope this situation gets better for you from now on. I can't believe you've had such an experience at a "wound center" no less. You might want to seriously put in a complaint about the treatment you got there. Will pray your new doctor will be more diligent in the attempt to rid you of this infection.

Yes, it does make you wonder when someone who is in charge to help people with wounds and just leaves them hanging. Makes you wonder how things could ever get any worse. You can guarantee I will be making complaints about him, and my case manager there, and hope somehow they never wake up and have to face any Medical emergencies that take a while as well.

I'm so glad you were able to get a fresh viewpoint! You asked for a different antibiotic at the other clinic and were refused--you know your body better than anyone but some medical people don't think so and are unwilling to try patient suggestions. That usually indicates an ego problem and you don't need docs like that! Good luck with the new medicine and suggestions!

The interesting thing from here is every time I have had this antibiotic in the whole 13+ months I have been going to this Wound clinic, I have had to get it from somewhere else. Even though I have told them this is the one that works best for me. It just continues to frustrate me when they will not listen. I have an apt. with both Doctors on Thursday and it will be interesting to see what if anything the Wound clinic will offer from here. But truly this is past getting old.

I am SOOO glad you went to get a second opinion. Also glad she was pleasant and wanted to listen. I hope this doctor helps and you get the leg on the mend. Glad too that she gave you some new ideas and things to think about. That must be a good feeling. Like there is actually hope left.

Well, it is frustrating from time to time when I continue to go to the wound clinic and they always want to blame me for everything. Never taking time to listen or find something that will work for me. Instead freaking out because I have an infection again never stopping to consider why? If they would take time to want to do something to help this wound heal, instead of continue to feel at a loss on everything it would make things a lot easier for sure.

Well my friend, there have been a lot of Prayers answered over time with this situation, but unfortunately I am still at a loss in what to do, or where to go next. It makes me wonder sometimes why they fail to see how to help me, and instead have to get it second guessed on and on and on.

Well, since getting the antibiotic and seeing this doctor twice, the wound and leg is really looking a lot better. It will be interesting to see what the Wound clinic and this doctor says Thursday when I see both of them, and to see how Frustrated if at all I will be.

You are a good example to us of how we need to be proactive in our own health care. Doctors have tons of education, and experience, but in the end, you are the one who lives with and in your own body. I have been fortunate to have doctors who also have believed this and have treated me mostly as a partner in my own care. Good luck with the new route Tina.

Well, it is interesting how they sent me to this New doctor, and then the Wound clinic calls me asking when I was coming in there again? That is when I asked why did they not believe me when I told them which antibiotics work for me, and I need them to consider doing something to help this wound heal so I can quit getting infections all the time. I have an apt with them on the 9th, and will see if the wound center can finally be human after all and listen?

KrauseHOme oh I am so glad you got someone who is willing to listen to you.thats sad the wound center there was not of real help. here the one I was sent to really had the ointment that cures that mess I had on my leg , my primary car doctor had tried everything and sent me to a dermatologist who turned out to be more interested in cosmetic surgery than my leg which was turning to cellulitis. so he sent me to the wound center so now if have a flare up I kept that cream on hand and in a few days my leg is normal I was so lucky to get a second referral to that particular wound center. so I am hoping the new doctor will really get your leg healed again. Some doctors will help you and some will not.For that wound center to tell you they felt they could not help you is dreadful as we diabetics look for help from them but perhaps find ing this new doctor will be a wonderful thing. My prayers and best wishes continue to go out to you tina. just returned from the hospital myself I had diarrhea for five days before the untrained medical person realized I needed medical help. I am so glad that Laura a care giver here told Quon that I needed medical help. diverticulitis. love hugs hatley

What was the Cream you were given that helped your legs? Maybe this is something I could consider as there are times I am prone to cellulitis as well, and just need to remember to always keep on top of it. As to the Doctor she was a Big help, but not in the Wound department so I am heading back to a New doctor at the wound clinic in a week and then go from there.

That's great news! She sounds extremely positive - and that's the kind of helpful attitude you need from a medical expert right now. What a breath of fresh air it must have been to talk to her. I will keep my fingers crossed that you are on a new road to healing!!

Thank You my friend. I have now been on the Antibiotic for 10 days, and going to see this Doctor as well as the doctor at the wound clinic in a week, and just had another vein procedure done yesterday. So personally I am hoping I really am on the way to healing and once and for all everything will be OK.
