Don't you get afraid when all the lights are gone all at a sudden at night time?

Yesterday there was an unexpected lose of power supply in my area. My house was filled with darkness and i couldn't see anything through my naked eyes. The only thing i could see is the colour of the darkness
.
I was too afraid and i just ran towards the door to close it. I just do so because i am well worried about the robbery.
What will you do first when the power supply is gone at sudden
? Don't you feel afraid at such instances?
Do you have any appliances like battery or invetor not to happen such occasions
?
How do you react to the darkness around you?
Please share all your experience and your thoughts

I should say I liked your phrase " colour of darkness ".
I live in a township which is governed by a powerplant so I do not face such crisis often. But yes at times I do face. I am not scared for the ugly myths of ghosts but yes as you said sometimes for doors, sometimes for switching off the appliance for their security purpose. And then yes I get very frustrated due to silence and getting all cooling appliances off.

Yes my reaction is pretty much same as yours, and I think everyone will be a little bit more alert if they find anything unusual or different. If I am not very much into checking my doors, I am often forced to check by my mother. I live in a safe society, may be I will realize the importance of being alert when I face some problems like that.

I am glad to know that you have a invetor at your home and i an quite sure that it helped you a lot when there is unexpected lose of power supply. Here in my region it is quite rare to have such unexpected lose of supplies now. What about you? How is the power supply going in your region?

I have been without electricity many time and occasionally the power goes out all over and there aren't even street lights. This doesn't bother me because I have emergency lights and some candles (though candles are dangerous), spare batteries, canned food and a small stove to cook on if I need to.
I'm not afraid of the dark, although I was when I was younger. I know every inch of my house because I practice going through it with my eyes closed. I can find anything I'm looking for even if it is completely dark. You should practice that, too, if you experience a lot of power outages.
If you are afraid of robbers you should improve your security. Remember, the darkness is your friend (if you know your way around!) in such situation. I keep pepper spray handy both downstairs and upstairs and also have a room I can lock myself into.

I think I should practice, how to manage the things without the power supply and it is the time to get prepared for it. I hope I will be able to do it well.

I am basically from Chennai -- now in Detroit.
In Chennai we are used to power cuts -- regular and irregular power cuts. We have a torch light and immediately switch it on. Thereafter we will light a candle. I did not purchase an invertor because we were about to leave our place for longer time and if invertor is left unattended to the battery will get drained dully.

Well, it can be frightening thats for sure if not prepared. Always have emergency things around just in case it happens, such as a flashlight, batteries, and those other much needed items if you have access to them at all in the house, then it won't be too scary. I don't blame you for wanting to close and lock the door due to robbery. I have experienced it many a times with the lights going out, even just for a few seconds.

I am not financially rich. So i could afford a invetor at my home now. I just make use of the torch to give the light when the power supply is gone.
Do you have an investor or a battery at a home? Do you feel it is quite important and it helped you a lot?

We have some kind of small generator or something for that purpose when the lights go out, and we just use flashlights and make sure they have adequate batteries in them, etc. Normally the lights being out doesn't last too long. The longest recently was when someone hit a pole w/ their car and it made the power go out over half the town for a few hours, I think.

Wonder, when i was still a kid, i am really scared of the dark. I even can't sleep when my parents switched off the light. Nowadays, i am not really scare of dark since i always getting my torchlight ready. In case, there is a power supply cut, i will just find the candles and lit them on the table. I make sure that the candles are not too near to any paper. I ever read in the newspaper that some people lost their homes due to candles. It is because they lit their candles too near to paper area.

Recently I had this experience. The power supply was cut at a sudden. I was alone at home. My heart started to beat rapidly. I looked for matches and candles. But could not find any. Fortunately I had my mobile with me. It helped me to search for a candle which I lighted from the stove. As I lighted the candle the electricity came back. What an experience I had for this short time. Today still I smile when I think of this moment.

Hi Kid
Powercut rarely happens in the place where i live (Mumbai) like a decade before we used face this problem but instead of being scare me and my friends used to like it a lot.
Everyone in our colony used to be outside and we used to enjoy a lot. I miss those days now as now everything here is concrete jungle.
My native place is in kerala and there it happens a lot but there even when they have light people are scared to go out after 8pm
for me i have no problems from darkness

The first thing I am looking for when there is a power failure is my cellphone. Since it's always besides me, I can easily find it. The reason why is, it could give me light to find my candles and matchbox
I don't worry much about the robbers as our doors are always close be it day or night. Also we have gate and big dogs outside. Before the robbers get in I'm sure our dogs surely bite them.
You know what makes me so afraid of when darkness gets in and there is no light at all? none other than, a snake
. I let the lights on in some part of our house during nights so I wouldn't be surprise so much if ever there is a snake.

I don't suppose you live around Illinois? There was a power outage in my area a while ago yesterday for me as well. There's actually been quite a lot of power outages this month, especially the one that took place when the temperatures reached up to the 100.
When the power went out for us, at first it was a huge deal because we were all kind of using power-related tools. when that stopped, I was kind of relieved I didn't have to do more work, but a bit annoyed that there wasn't any air conditioning in the house.
I did feel afraid though. We have an electric stove so we couldn't really cook anything and had to order, but we were also afraid that we wouldn't be able to get food because some restaurants would close from that power outage. Fortunately, we were able to get food and by that time, the power came back up. Boy, was I relieved.

Here i own gas cooking stove and we don't depend on electricity to cook our food. I know it will be quiet difficult when there is only electrical appliances to do the works when there is no supply. There comes the importance of others ways other than electrical appliances.
So do you face such power lose any more? How do you deal with it to cook the food?

If you have a batteries and inverter then you need not to get worried much about the power cuts and the loose of power supply. The only thing you just see is, just charge the batteries and inverters regularly.

So, Does all the cooking appliances runs on electricity
?
This might may be the reason why you worry about it. I have gas stove at my home. So I don't have to worry much about it. I have to only worry when the gas is finished
.

Actually I was enjoying such power cuts in the past.. We cousin used to enjoy it and have different kind of fun. So I never felt fear about it.. When I was kid, yes may be few times I got worried when I was alone, but i never felt same thing when I was with something.... And as I said when we were in big group, we surely used to enjoy it.

On my childhood days we was having long power cuts
. During those times we just used to play some silly games which bring a lot of fun. Among the games hide
and seek was the game we usually play. I just used play it and used to hide with my other cousins . From the childhood itself I was much afraid of the darkness

The robbers not only aim for our money but they aim to loot everything which we have with us. So we must be very careful. Do you feel you are well safe when you stay on the second floor
? Do you have a watchman at you apartment to seek the security of you people

Hi,
I am afraid of neither darkness nor power cuts.
When I was a child, my father taught me a trick of not getting afraid of darkness. That trick was I should close my eyes at night when we switch off the lights of the room before going to bed. What he told me was if I close my eyes and switch off the lights and after switching off if I open the eyes, I should be able to see some brightness in the room.
These days, if there is a power cut, then we (husband & children) are all aware of the matchbox and candle or the mobile phone so either of us lights it. At times I also tell my children to try and experience the ‘switch off’ with closed eyes.

I am actually a person that is VERY afraid of the dark so I would have to say that I am very afraid because I cannot see anything and I hate that. It's so bad that I hyperventilate while the power is out. Though we have solar lamps in our house for that occasion, we didn't expect the power to go out and it just suddenly went very hectic in my house. I'm also someone that hates when it is very quiet and with no power...well, you could probably guess how I was feeling. :(
