Plenty of time to sleep when you're dead

What do you think of this saying? It's festa season where I am, which means that virtually every night there is a village party. Lots of drinking and dancing. Last night I got home at around 3am and was up for 6am, and the night before I got back around 2am with a 6am start. All this with quite a few beers inside me. Today I'm wandering around in a bit of a daze to be honest. If I dared get vertical for a moment I fear I'd not wake for the next 24 hours! However, it's not going to stop me heading back out later tonight. My kids enjoy the festas so they're hassling me to go. Of course, they don't have to be up for 6am so can sleep the morning away! On the one hand I'm enjoying myself and feel it's not often that I get the opportunity to party the night away so ought to take full advantage. On the other, I need to be a little careful of my health knowing that I've got lots of responsibilities preventing me from catching up on a sleep debt anytime soon.

I used to say that a lot when I was younger, but these days I appreciate my sleep and rest. I think I may have gone to that one night, or maybe every other night and taken breaks to sleep. Is your partner going with you? Since the kids are enjoying it so much can you 2 maybe swap nights so one can sleep while the other goes out for a bit.. then the next night the other sleeps? Or just go out for a short time and come back earlier than 3am?

The trouble is that these things don't kick off until so late. I ought to sleep int he afternoon, but of course the kids don't want to rest because they've had a long lie in in the morning. I think I'm going to give it a rest now anyway. I'm upright this morning, but barely!

My kids can manage not to get into trouble, the biggest is easily able to keep tabs on the youngest, but they just won't leave me alone. If I so much as let my head touch the pillow they'll start arguing, or want feeding, or have a question, or just *something* that involves disturbing me! Mine have the technology things to keep them occupied too, but it doesn't seem to keep them in one place! How do you do it?!!!

Aren't your kids old enough at this point to occupy themselves for awhile without getting into trouble while you lie down for a bit? There have been times I've had to go lie down while the kids were still up. Thankfully due to the modern age I know my kids will occupy themselves on the computers, laptops, and video games, LOL.

Oh I wish I could party like that, even just once a year! I don't see how you do it though, only getting two or three hours of sleep. I become a royal demon if I do that, and since I work customer service it's not very safe for my job. But I wouldn't worry too much about over indulging if you don't do it too often, or for an extended amount of time. I beilve that being happy is a very important part of your health too. So if partying makes you happy and you can survive it without long term effects then go for it! Have fun!

Yey! I must admit I'm pretty jaded this morning. The time has come to catch up I think, although I do have so much to do later. My partner is grumpy as hell today. He definitely needs to catch up!

Catching up on sleep and rest is fun too! I plan on doing that Monday, although I'm sleep deprived because of work and work and work. Enjoy your days of rest and I hope you can get everything done with out ripping some ones head off, or falling asleep while you're doing it!

I can handle about two short sleep nights in a week, but then I must make it up witth some day sleeping, etc. I only do it for work shifts. I used to think sleep was a waste of time, but you know, I am about twice your age.

I don't know how old you are Gerty, but my guess is that you think I'm a lot younger than I am, or I think you are! One of us should see that as a great compliment I guess ;) I'm shattered now, I must admin, and my partner has turned into a right grumpy git. I think we need to recharge our batteries pronto.

Good on you! Go for it! Kick up those heels, imbibe a little..you only go around once! Have no regrets! Live each day like it's your last! And rest assured (no pun intended) you never catch up on sleep deficit..you eventually recover! Am I jealous...you betcha!

UGH! I hate those mornings where it takes a long time for the Fog to lift..LOL! THat's a deal breaker...when you spend more time "looking for the loo" than kicking up your heels! At least you made memories...good on you! Now it's recoup time!

I remember that phrase and those days with fondness! I think I'd be in better shape now if I'd taken better care of myself in my youth, though. I figured why not have fun, die young and make a good looking corpse? I never dreamed I'd make it to 58! Go have fun but don't stay so long! Everything in moderation, as they say..I know moderation isn't as fun as excess but your body will thank you when you're my age!

I think the time has now come for a little moderation! Three nights on the trot is about all my body can stand I think. I look like I'm functioning normally, but there's a big wad of cotton wool where my brain ought to be. I'm absolutely sure that your corpse with be fabulous looking when it's time comes, whatever!

I heard this statement in a song of adam lambert and now i am still singing it in my head LOL. It is good that you are enjoying every second in your life that you dont even have time to sleep. But like what you have said your health is still important above anything else. If you still do that continuously, you may end up sick and that is not a good thing right? Take time to sleep and have a rest at least eight hours to avoid sickness, weakening, fainting or stress ! Have fun and party for me !

I think I've partied enough recently to party for everyone here! But now it's time to lay off for a little while. Today I'm walking in a daze!

I know I have too much sleep, trouble is I love my sleep, mind you I suffer with depression and that makes me more tired. I also work out a lot at the gym, so sleep is important for me and for my body to recover. On average I have about 10-11 hours sleep, I know it's a lot, but my body and mind need it. Ideally I would love sleep like a bear, hibernate. The hot weather makes me drowsy and I don't like the heat. So I would sleep throughout the Summer months! I've always loved my sleep even from a child. I am now in my forties, and won't change.

I think we should go with the amount of sleep that feels right for us. So if 10 or 11 hours feels right for you, stick with it!

It's another way of saying "life is short". It's a shame to be here and not live life to the fullest so, you go girl! It would not be possible for me to do that now, in fact, I was always bored at most parties. My perspective however, did become altered when a new friend, a cancer survivor, described a trip away she did with our group. She got up to all sort of things and she says, " we only get one go at life". Coming from her, it added some real meaning to me rather than being just a cliché. She's 61, just a bit more than a year older than me.

Life is indeed short. Sometimes though it takes a brush with losing it to make us realise it. Just recently I've been thinking more about how well I'm using the life I've been given and realising that there's perhaps more I could be doing with it.
