Why are some countries more popular than others?

One lady said she and her husband would be visiting the Gambia. That country is popular with tourists due to its beautiful beaches and interesting interior. The people are poor so it brings them much needed income. I wonder why other places in West Africa are not popular with tourists. In North Africa only Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt attract tourists. The countries which I have visited in Africa are Tunisia in my teenage years, Kenya when I was in my mid twenties, the Seychelles and South Africa in my thirties. In Asia some counties are way more popular than others. I wonder why this is. Why do you think it is?

Every country is popular in their own place no one popular than others. I not think this my country is popular than others or other is popular than my country.

Some countries do not get enough international exposure by the media, therefore, these countries are less known to the tourists. Countries with less information about its interesting places will not attract tourists. Tourists want to explore places that they have heard of lot from many various sources. They will not go to a place that they have not heard of or known in some ways or the others.

I think tourists from richer nations expect a minimum standard which may not be available in some of these countries. So hotels may not offer many of the things we take for granted. Likewise, there can be security issues, foreign exchange conversion issues, water quality issues, sanitation issues, language issues, etc. Those who travel more often obviously know where the facilities exist. Another reason is the art forms, and architecture. Some places are renowned for these while others do not have much of such things. Nature may not have done them injustice, but other things being absent, many would give them a pass after all who would want to spend monies to have a vacation that does not offer much to recall.

Yes that is one main reason that tourists from richer countries expect a minimum standard or quality which some countries may not be able to provide. Others reason might be cultural, religious, and traditional practices that discourage tourists to visit some countries despite having excellent facilities for tourists. Some countries may not be rich in archaeological sites, arts and architecture but have natural beauty which tourists may not like alone. Cost of living, transport and location etc also influence tourists to choose particular countries to visit and leaving out other countries.

Well let us just say that certain countries have their characteristics that other countries do not have. Some countries do have a lot of tourism campaigns that also make their beautiful places known around the world. Other countries do not promote their tourism very much that is why their are less known to others as a good destination. One thing to note as well is the safety of the travels are also considered when a traveling tourist require. So the more unsafe the country is the more they are not chosen by traveling tourist.

I would suggest that a country's popularity is associated with economics, social climate, and government policies. For example, I probably would not visit a country in which my American dollar is not very valuable. I would prefer to be in a tolerant country that I can feel safe in, and I would have a problem if I couldn't take pictures. There are a lot of countries that are beautiful and will allow your dollar to go far, but safety and freedom are questionable. Doing research helps before one travels. I do mine, and it helps me to cover all bases.

I see that you have a lot of things to discuss about traveling. I wonder how you manage to travel that much. I never went to foreign country but I think I will go sometime. I know only English which is a foreign language to me. I think that will be enough. I see the tourists here at my place and I always wonder what they do for living if they keep traveling.

Dear maximax8,I am so admire you that you had been to so many Africa countrys,I have never been to any Africa country. As for your questions,I think the biggest factor may be is the political issue,in some Africa countrys, their domestic politics is quite unstable and it is not safe to visit there, and some do not open their countrys to foreign visitors.

Because of the reputations the countries have through the media. In countries so far away we don't know firsthand, so we take what we hear as the main decider I think. There are some countries in Africa and Asia I wouldn't set foot on because of the reputation they have.

I think safety is an issue for many. When my mom went to Kenya it was safer than it is lately.

I think that there are many different reasons why some countries aren't very popular among the tourists. In some cases people have never heard about the countries or they know a little bit about them but not enough to get interested in visiting them. Some countries aren't popular because it isn't safe to visit them at the moment, because it is too hard to get a visa, because there is lack of transportation (few flights or only expensive flights) or because it challenging to travel around in the countries (bad roads, few and unreliable busses, few hotels etc) Some countries had a bad reputation in the past because of wars or lots of crime. The situation might be different today, but the the bad reputation remains. People are still afraid to visit those countries, because they don't know that the situation is different today.

There are many countries or places that don`t have the facilities that some tourists need. I would never go to Gambia as it is far and expensive as air fare goes and Im not sure there`s good health service for me just in case something happens. Don`t you think it might have to do with what the country can offer to different kinds of tourists?

It all down to promotion my friend. A country who can promote themselves well as an tourism attraction will be more popular than the other. Then it also come from tourist review. Most of the time whenever people travel, they will make some review or write their visiting experience. The more positive review and recommendation a country have, the more likely it will be popular. The also this travel and living channel. The country who frequently shows on travel and living channel more likely to be mnore famous than the one who never been feature on travel and living channel.
