I have worked soooooo hard the last few months putting food up in the freezer & canning as many things as i could. Everyone says groceries are going to be even more expensive than they already are.I was soooooo tired last week & thurs. i made the big statement that i was through, was not going to put up another bite & that if anyone came to the door w/something for me to put up i was going to push them down my steps, lol. Guess what?? had to eat my words friday. Friend of mine brought me a 5 gallon bucket of tomatoes. I thought i would just scream but was very gracious to her & i really did appreciate her thinking of me.I had already canned quite a few jars of tomatoes. I was so worn out i just put these in the freezer, that is faster. Have u ever had to eat your words??

Yeah, the only kind I DISLIKE are the pale, tasteless cherry type used in salads. All others, I'd take a fresh one over ice cream! Yummo! How I long to have one of my grandparents/ huuuge, juicy farm-raised beefsteak (aka oxcart wheels) tomatoes. Ohhh...the knees grow weak at the mere scent.... Ben & Jerrys, eat yer heart out! MP

hi dear Antiquelady, didnt even know you can freeze tomatoes. Dont they lose flavor and are they like fresh when they are thawed again? wonder how big your freezer must be with all the stuff in it you once mentioned. Hope you have a relaxing weekend now no canning and freezing stuff.

Hello my friend, yea!! u are on vacation. Know u are glad.Frozen tomatoes are good to cook with not to eat by themselves. They are alot easier to put up that way but really prefer them canned but i was to pooped to can them. I hope i'm through w/all that. I am still worn out from it all but kept thinking i might not be able to do it next year.I have a chest type freezer out in my shed at the end of my carport. It's just about full. Enjoy your time off. thanks for responding, Hugs.

"Eating my words" is a DIET I am getting pretty tired oF! LOL! Most of the time it is not something I have said nefariously...it is because, like you, I say "that's it" "NO more!" And "duh" there I am doing it all over again! You are way ahead of me, my friend....I really don't have much food put by..and that is not like me. I have just been so busy with other matters..trying to get my pensions straightened out (a year and 3 months now)...and my mortgage renewed! It means DAYS OFF Island, and I am so exhausted after a day away! Hopefully the mortgage will be tied up, tomorrow and I will have part of a day with T.J. on the mainland! Just thought I would make you a bit jealous...In October, T.J. and I are going on a 12 day hunting trip, into the middle of nowhere! White-tail Deer and Grouse! It will be cold, but we have the luxury of a brand new 26.5 foot trailer T.J. and Andrea bought this summer to relax in, at the end of the day. Hopefully I will have my freezer full, after that! LUV & HUGZ!

, Shirley that is just wonderful. So glad u are going to get some good time w/your t.j.I know ui are really looking forward to oct. getting here. Hope u do get enough to fill your freezer. I have put enough up to feed the neighborhood but i keep thinking i might not be able to do it next summer.Of course i hope i am. U8 stay too busy, lady but i might as well be talking to a tree, lol.I wish u could get all that crap straightened out & be able to quit worrying w/it. That new trailer sounds WONDERFUL. i'M SO HAPPY FOR U. LOVE & HUGS.

You were just frustrated at the time that's all. Now I havent' heard of groceries going to be going up, but I really wouldn't doubt it. We won't be able to scrounge up any food if we aren't careful. Though I love the couponers, they can really save some money. Me? Nah I can't. That's a lot of tomatoes! You'll be having tomato sandwiches, tomato soup, spaghetti.. lol.. You could start your own business!

Thanks for your response. I was really just worn ouit instead of frustated, lol.Every time i go to the grocery things have gone up here.I use coupons to but they haven't had too many good ones in the paper lately.I had already put up quite a few tomatoes but glad that i have them all now that i'm through w/them, lol.

Wish I could have been there so that you could have shared your good fortune with me. I paid $3.69 each for larger tomato plants in hopes that that they would make before it got too hot. We did get a few small tomatoes, but I could have bought more tomatoes at the store with the money I spent just for the plants and saved what I spent for mulch, fertilizer and water.
