Now I can eat either soup or chowder, my sister though cannot stand anything with chunks and hates chowders. My cousin on the other hand is the opposite doesn't even finish the broth at all in her bowl if it is not real thick. As I said I could care less as long as it taste good. So glad the cooler weather is coming because unlike them I cannot eat either when it is hot...we're complicated chicks Other thing do you count chili as a soup/chowder or stew? The three of us where discussing this and all had different opinions

Some people aren't chowder or soup fans I suppose. I am a fan of both, especially if I am not feeling well those will be my first choices.

It's cold so I have been making huge pots of soup each week. Enough for one big meal and lunch for us for a few days. We love any version as well.

that sounds good to me, I love left overs too so you won't have to bother making something else for lunch the next day.

Chili is chili, its none of the above... Chowder... has chunks? I thought chowder had fish...

I've shied away from chowders, because fish soup always sounded bad to me - I'm not THAT into fish... I realize that chowder isn't always a regional thing, but my folks never made it, so it wasn't part of our menu. Heck, there are few enough soups I can eat that are corn free anyway!

It depends on the time of year, as I make many stews in the fall. We eat a lot of soup in the winter months and sometimes it will be a chunky type soup, but many times it will be a broth. I agree really eat very little soup in the summer, as its to hot. Chili I normally add lots of vegetables and some meat to turn into a stew. I find chili to be a great filling meal and serve it once a week during the cooler months.

I think chili is just chili. I guess it would depend on how it is made and what is in it. If it is just beans, onions and burger and the seasonings then I would call it chili. But if you put in carrots and afew other things like my husband used to do then I would call it chili stew. I usually associate chowders with fish and potatoes. I think soup is several things mixed together in a broth.

As my husband is allergic to fish we do not eat clam chowder or other fish products. I do make a wicked chowder of corn, chicken and ham.

I personally dont like chowders, I can eat certain cream soups though mainly cream of cauliflower, or brocolli and cheese. I love more broth soups, with veggies and such. I don't mind the chunks, but chowder soups turn me off, they usually have a smell to them just isn't appetizing.

I have had many chowders and to tell you the truth never noticed a smell unique to them as they all have different ingredients making them each smell different.
