My grandson is home from school today due to a cold. I got him some orange juice and he is watching cartoons. Don't ya hate it when kids are sick? So I was just thinking(ouch!)and I wonder how my fellow members on Mylot ready themselves for the winter months and any sickness that may come your way. Do you get your flu shots? Do you stock up on achinacea, golden seal, honey, etc. ? Do you get cough drops, cough medicines, congestion pills, etc.? I usually have alittle of all of the above. How about you folks?

I think the best all natural medicine for colds and cough is honey but it should be raw. Of course we can't give them to infants or kids below one year old. But for older kids honey with apple cider vinegar or lemon juice is great. I don't give them synthetic medicine at all. I make sure I treat them at the first sign of colds though.

Apple cider is hardly tolerable if taken pure. It has to be mixed with water and honey to neutralize the sour taste. I add 2 spoonful of apple cider and equal amount of honey in a glass of cold water. My son loves drinking this mixture. It can heal sore throat as well.

Oh, I don't mind it at all. I come from a long line of sour lovers. My daughter eats lemon likes there's no tomorrow and drinks the water on pickles too. We love our vinegar!

Celtice, recently my area was having rain almost every evening. My son got flu and coughing due to getting wet in the rain. Now, i let my son drink more warm water with the prescribed medicines from my family doctor. Hope he could get well very soon again.

Her in our place we don't have winter season, because of this season lots of typhoons comes on our country, not just flu but dengue and leptospirosis made by the heavy rains that causes flood. All we should do is not to go outside when it's not important and cleaning very well our surroundings. The important is the prevention but in your place it's natural so take a lot of Vit. C to defense illnesses.

Yeah, you right. but not all places only in the cities that have more resident staying. Here in our place it's far from the flooded area because were in the town. We're safe from that illnesses. :)

I have never taken a flu shot and never will. I supplement vitamin D3 daily and take vitamin C if I feel I'm getting sick. I've not had the flu or any kind of cold in many years.

I don't get a flu shot. I used to get a flu shot and whatdya know, every fall or winter I'd get the flu. Ironically, it was after I quit getting the flu shot that I stopped getting sick. I don't think it was the shot that gave it to me, no way. I think I happened to move out around that time, and not having other people around me with flu symptoms definitely helps. We always get my mom the flu shot. Her body will catch anything. And when she gets the flu she passes out and stuff. One time we found her lying on the bathroom floor, shaking, saying, "What am I doing? What am I doing?" And these were the days BEFORE the dementia.

I take vitamins daily plus Omega three tablets and this helps. I rarely get a cold but I have been thinking about getting a flu shot this year. This would be the first time ever so I do not know if it is necessary. The weather at home is warm, thank God. I just hate the snow and ice and the rain that stings in the face. I do have cough medicine in the house olus the usual tablets for colds etc should anyone at home get sick. Does your grandson take vitamins? Blessings

I dislike the snow and ice too. I would make sure you have Lyzine in your diet. It is one of the amino acids and helps to strengthen the immune system.

I rarely get sick in the winter. Always been that way. I know a an older woman who believes and uses cider vinegar to cure all ills! Most people I know use cough drops, cough medicine, congestion pills and the like. Currently one of the pantry ladies and has a bad cold. Her way of getting better is sleeping as much as possible and OJ! Everyone is different!

Yes I go out and get the proper medince for my kids and keep something on hand just in case I get sick.. During the winter months especially I try to cook with garlic and onion.. These is a way to help clean out our systems and natual antibiotics. We all take daliy vitamins and my kids take some chewable vitamin C.. Granted after all of that we still get sick, but it is not as often as other people.. My son doesnt bring home all of the colds that he encounters at school.. Thank God for that.. Flu shot.. No way!! First off my body is senitive to medications; and I am not sure about my kids... The one year I did get the flu shot to provent the flu.. I ended up missing work for a month stuck in bed with the stomach flu... Not going to go through that again!!

Well it is pretty obvious to catch cold and get down with fever when winter is approaching and this all happens due to the change in the climate. We can avoid it but we cannot prevent it at any cost. Hence we should always be ready with the correct and effective preventive measures that can help us flu especially during the winters. It is always better to cover yourself properly to avoid catching flu easily. Besides trying to avoid going outside much. Having hot served food is also good for winters. What say?

I think we can prevent it. Eating right and making sure we have Lyzine, Zinc and vitamin C in our diets. Not going outside means we would need to take extra Vitamin D. Hot meals are great in the Winter.

Oh, yes I do hate it when my children got sick. They can't really verbalize where their sick at or how they feel. If I had my choice of getting sick I'd rather get sick sick with a cold/flu in the winter, because you can stay inside and cuddle up under a blanket, drink hot herbal tea, read a book and sleep/rest.

We still seem to be struggling with allergies, which of course can cause us to be prone to colds. So I take an antihistamine almost daily. I do not use echinacea, but I do take vitamins. I try to get enough sleep which is sometimes hard to do. I mix a blend of oils that seems to relieve symptoms for me. We will use "Fisherman's Friend" lozenges. They taste nasty but seem to do the trick as far as stopping a cough and helping us breathe. I had a virus last week, got over it really fast.

Oh, I haven't seen "Fisherman's Friend" lozenges in years. You might want to think about taking some Lyzine too. It is one of the amino acids and strengthens the immune system. ALso zinc and Vitamin C in the diet is good too. Glad you got over the virus. I hope I get over the vertigo soon. Ugh!
