Will you stop taking the pills if you feel better?

Supposed a doctor prescribes you pills for a week. And you already feel better after taking the pills for three days. Will you stop taking the rest pills or you will finish taking all of them? If I am feeling better, I will stop taking the pills as I don't want to take many pills. It will give me some side effects in my opinion.

In normal fever too it is advisable to take medicines for the days doctor has prescribed.

I will go on with the medicine even if I feel better. My reason for this is that even if I feel better, it is still better to finish all the medicine for a thorough cure in case it should come back again.

youless thats really dangerojs as what one antibiotic can do for one illness might not touch the next illness .never keep any that are leftin fact take them all or yu run the risk of the illkness poppiinmg back up and the few left will not cure it. do not play doctor go to the doctor when you are ill its much safer.

If you are taking antibiotics, then stopping them before the course of medication can just lead to a more resistant germ in the future.

youless if you think you are smarter than the doctor why bother I follow directions as I found out the hard way that the flu came back the next day when I stopped taking the antibiotic and i ended up with pneumonia and was in the hospital for a week.

I believe you should follow the doctor's orders. He is, after all, the professional, and knows how to treat illness. If you have doubts about the medicice, you should contact your doctor and ask his advise, instead of depending on non-medical people. I really don't think the doctor benefits financially from prescribing a week's worth of pills.

i am appalled at how you two think you know more than a doctor who is a professional and spent years learning his buisness. I trust my doctor and follow his directions you and I are not trained medical people at all.

I would take the pills until they were gone. Doctors tell you that all the time. Just because you feel better does not mean the problem is gone. So if you finish them you'll know you'll definitely be okay. Unless they are pain pills, in which I'd say you only need to take them until you are in no pain. Otherwise, I'd take them until they were gone.

I will not stop taking medications prescribed to me by the doctors unless and until the doctors give the directive to stop. Certain medicines like antibiotics have to be finished off even though we thought we have fully recovered. I am taking BP pills and was told to continue taking the pills as stopping could be fatal due to stroke.

I have always taken all the pills because mt doctor normally tells me I should. He said that even if you start to feel better that doesn't mean that the virus isn't still lurking around, so to get the full benefit from the pills you should take them all. I myself doesn't like taking pills very much but when I know it is something that I need to take I take them.

Hello you less. I think it depends on the pills first of all. If they are simple cold medicine, I would probably stop, but if they are prescribed for something different, I would continue using them as the cure for a number of days usually has a purpose, not just to make us have side effects. I do believe in alternate medicine, but I also believe in pills as well.

Youless, when i am taking a flu or coughing pills, i will stop taking them after i feel much better. Because both pills can makes me feels drowsy and unable to concentrate with my work. As for my mother's illness medication, she always check with the doctor first, before stop taking any of her medication. Because she ever tried stop taking certain of her medications. And that makes her suffered a lot.

hi youless, it depends on the kind of pill and the medication it is for. if for pains, i would already stop if it is no longer hurting. but to combat something, an anti-biotic should be finished thru its course to really be effective. yes even if you already feel better. have a nice day. ann

It depends on what the pills are for. One time my dentist (even though she's not my doctor) prescribed two bottles of pills for me. One was for an infection in my tooth, the other was for pain since she had filled a cavity. She told me that the pills for the infection were to be taken until they were all gone. She did not say the same thing about the pain pills because one knows, of course, that one only needs to take pain pills so long as there is pain. A couple of days after my dental appointment was over, my mouth and teeth started feeling much better, so I stopped taking the pills. About a day later, the place where she had done the dental work was swelling up to be the size of a golf ball. I took the pain pills, but those did not work, I then realized that I needed to take the pills for the infection. I took two of the pills and the swelling in my face started to go down and the pain stopped. That taught me a lesson. If pills are for something like an infection, then I will continue to take them, epecially if the Dr. says take these until the bottle is empty and the instructions that come with the pills also say take until empty. There was also a time when I was prescribed some pills for high blood pressure when I was pregnant. I had never had high blood pressure prior to pregnanacy, so after I gave birth to my son, I stopped taking the blood pressure pills. The instructions that came with the pills said do not discontinue use abruptly. My cousin who is a nurse told me that I should keep taking them, but I figured "why should I?" so I stopped. I felt if I did not need them prior to getting pregnant, I did not need them after. In this particular case, I did not want to become dependent on pills to keep my blood pressure low, especially since I had never needed these types of pills in the past.

Your dental experience really scared me. As to your blood pressure, I think since it is not a long term problem. It just occurred when you were pregnant, so I didn't think it was necessary to keep on taking the pills. Some problems will be gone after delivery the baby.

What kind of pills are you referring to? If it is an antibiotic pills, then you must continue to finish the desired number of the pills the Doctor has ordered you to take. Medicine compliance is very crucial in every antibiotic therapy. Because if this will not be followed, the infection is likely to recur and it will be more difficult to treat. Bacteria have a tendency to develop an antibiotic resistance so beware. :D

Hello. I wouldn't stop taking the pill outright! There might be some bad effect on that too! You know what's the best to do? Visit the doctor and tell him I am feeling better and If I can already stop taking in the pill. What do you think? Its because there could be an adverse affect too in your body once you stop it, while in fact, the doctor said it has to be taken for more days. Maybe its just me. But feeling good may just be temporary effect of the medicine that you really need to continue taking it. I guess I am the best patient because I religiously follow instructions given to me by the doctor. He is the expert for me.

My father was a Md and then a biochemist. He told me that we must finish the dose of the pills prescribed for anillness. If we stopped taking them, some bugs left would grow resistant to the antibiotic and grow worse.

Hi youless, for me it depends on what kind of pills that the doctor gave it to you, if it's only for pain and fever you can stop taking those pills when you feel better even without finishing the require days. But if your taking pills because of some bacterial and viral infections better to continue to pills as prescribes by the doctor because it will treat you well and avoid any viral or bacterial resistance.

This is actually one of the questions I ask my doctor whenever she writes me a prescription. Sometimes, she will say to discontinue if I am already better; in other cases she says I have to finish it all even if I'm already better. It really depends, in my case that is, whatever it is that I'm trying to cure.
