I Don't Know The Person But I Am Worried!

Tonight as we were driving home there was a drunk driver in front of us. He was very obviously drunk, he was swerving off the road, stopping short and a few times almost hit someone next to him in the other lane of traffic. It scared and upset me. I prayed for him to get where he was going safely... We had our children in the van with us so we did not want to get too close to get his plate number to call it into the police. Just in case he stopped short again, then we would be hurt and we could not take that chance with our babies. I am so sad though and just hoping the person gets off the road before he hits someone or hurts himself! =( I wish I could save the world sometimes...I know I can't but I am so worried that he is going to hurt someone driving that way! Have you ever seen a drunk driver? Were you able to call the police about it and get them off the road?

This makes me sad to have heard about this. That person is not only putting his own life in danger but he or she was so selfish to put everyone else on the road in danger as well. It was smart of you to stay your distance from them while driving. In that situation it is your choice to keep your children safe. That is your priority. If getting the license # was too dangerous, you had done the right thing.

you could have recorded a video on your phone and bring it to the police station as an evidence. Zoom the video in so that you could capture the plate. This driver will not learn his lesson unless somebody will teach him.

I did not even think about doing something like that! I wish I did, I would have done that. But it was dark so I probably would not have been able to get a clear video since my phone is not that good...

It seems when ever we are driving home from somewhere at night there is someone on the road that seems like they are not fully there. Some are worse than others. If they are really bad I get out my cell phone and call the police I usually can't see license plates that well either but I will just call and say what road we are on and what direction the person is going and what kind of car it is and what color. There is usually at lease one officer somewhere close by. My sister in law was killed instantly by someone under the influence so it is something I hate to see. When I was in college I was driving to one of the campuses and there was a guy in front of me that hit every single parked car on the street as he went along. Unfortunately that was before cell phones so there was nothing I could do about it.

Sadly in the town I live it is not taken so seriously...There are tons of military people since this is a military town so I think the police just get tired of doing something about this. There are SO many that do it in this town it is ridiculous! Not only could they hurt themselves but they could also hurt or kill innocent people!! How horrible!

It is basically a chose he has made and you know you can't save the world. I haven't been in a situation like this. I remember being stopped once by a policeman because I was driving irradically. I was upset and crying and didn't realize I was driving so badly. I also went through a time when I was going out drinking alot and my one girlfriend always drove. We were very lucky.

I know he made the choice but it will not be fair if someone else suffers from his choice! That is the part I absolutely hate...He could make someone else hurt very badly or suffer from his actions, how sad and unfair. If I could save the world I would but I do know I cannot. =( You were very lucky that you all were okay.

Irresponsible driver. Most road accidents are due to drunk drivers. These people won't learned their lessons until they hurt themselves. I haven't reported same incident, but yeah I've seen a lot of them. They drive as if they own every lane. Good thing you and your babies were safe:)

Exactly, very irresponsible! I know most accidents are caused by this, and the worst part is innocent people suffer because of drunk drivers... =( Yes I am very glad we made it home okay because I was scared for a while because of him!

It is irresponsibie and it is not smart of their own safety let alone every one elses on the road!

I have been driven by a drunk driver. The experience isn't very enjoyable and was mostly frightening. I couldn't call the police and felt very wrong about it though!

If I'm able to get their license plate and have a phone handy, I definitely do. They pose a danger to both themselves and other people by driving this way. I'm all for bringing back those nasty movies like we used to look at as part of a Drivers Ed. class to show the gravity of driving recklessly. People who get too drunk to drive either need to stay home to drink or else have a designated driver or another means (e.g. cab) for getting back home. Unless they're harming others, people who are walking home while drunk shouldn't be arrested, imo, because, at least, they aren't operating a vehicle. If they're doing something inappropriate, they need to be simply driven back home again instead of being put in jail.

Yes if I could have gotten the plate number I would have called it in but the police here are not going to drive all over looking for the person. The police here are not as good as they should be... They are putting their own life at stake and innocent people at stake too! How unfair. I agree they should stay home or find another way around. It is so dangerous! And it is unfair to others... I agree people not driving should not be arrested, they should just be taken home.

grandfather used to drive drunk, it was awful, then I decided I was not going to get into the car with him if he was drinking and when my grandmother said the same thing he stopped drinking if he knew he had to drive.

You could have called the police even without the plate number. A description of the auto and the route that he was on would have been sufficient. I know that the police in this area would have been out after him in a snap if they received such a call.

Not here, sadly they will not do anything unless you have a plate number...They will not search the whole town looking for someone like that...Unfortunately.

I never have been in that situation and hope I never am. People who drive drunk are idiots and you should not worry about this drunk driver. I hope the cops see him or have, pulled him over and get him for drunk driving! I hope he pays for driving drunk!

Well I am more worried about the innocent people that might get hurt because of him and his stupid choice to drive drunk! =( It's not fair for innocent people to be hurt or killed because of him either... I hope the police see him as well, I just could not put my kids in danger for it...

I see people driving from time to time that I think might be drunk, but I have never reported someone for drunk driving. Now, the other day my best friend and I were driving back up here from picking her up and there was a big truck in front of us, he was all over the road and we assume that he had been up all night driving and that is the reason that he was weaving all over the place. Something like this really does make me worry not only about the driver's safety, but also the safety of everyone else on the road.

I've never seen a drunk driving and swerving off the road. But if I did, I would call 911 to report it. I would report it because it would mean saving someone's life, even the driver! I did see someone once veering off his lane as he was driving. I was at the back and I would see him veer off, and then try and correct himself. I was sure he wasn't drunk because it was around 7 in the morning. I figured he must have come off work and was really sleepy. I honked at him, and the other car to his left also honked. Last I saw was him pulling off the side of the road.

I'm actually mad at drunk drivers. Usually they cost more harm to others than to their own selves. A drunk guy in a bike once side swept my side mirror and almost fell off his bike. Instead of stopping, he ran away, scared that i might call the police.

I agree with you, they do cause more harm to others than to themselves. Most of the time they do not get hurt when a crash happens! Oh wow! Drunk drivers need to be stopped!!!

Whenever I see a drunk driver, I get so scared. In my mind, the picture of gruesome car crashes and accidents that I always see and read on the news flashes. As much as we want to do something about it, we also have to protect ourselves while driving alongside him. The degree on how men can be inconsiderate of other people's lives is totally freaking me out.

I got really scared too. I hate that someone would put their own life in danger and many others as well! Yeah, we had to protect ourselves from him. We wanted to call the police but we were not getting close enough to him to get his plate number. We did not want to die at the hands of an idiot!

I am not sure if I have or not...I have been behind someone who was texting and swerving all over the road...and when I finally got brave enough to pass her I could see what she was doing. I hope she didn't get killed....she would be off on the shoulder one minute....over the white line the next. It was very scary!
