My daughter getting strange phone calls on her mobile phone

Well my daughter is not happy tonight that she keeps getting woken up by strange calls on her mobile. She has not had her number long and it is on her dads contract, so she called and asked if we had called her.I explained to her if we had called her our number would have been left on her phone with our names that she has put in the phone. Strange thing is she has never given out her number to many people, as half the people on her other number she do not see or have any thing to do with, so not many people could call her number.

Phone numbers are always reused, so she needs to let the people calling know that the number is no longer for whoever it is they are looking for.

a lot of times if a person calls a wrong number, they hear the strange voice and hang up without saying anything - does she have an answering option on the phone, she might want to leave a message saying they have reached a number that has been changed.

She did keep saying hello when she answered it and they never said anything, on her answer phone it states hi its her phone please leave a message, so they would have known if they accidently rang a number wrong, or person changed their number, she has had this number for about four months now and it has only now been a problem. If it keeps happening, then she will have to go and get it sorted with the contract company.Only problem is that the number may have been given out by one of her friends to some one.

The calls that she is getting tonight are people calling her and hanging up and she did not know if anything had happened at home and we were trying to call her from a private number, as this is one thing that had happened in the past. I told her to turn her phone off and if we need her we will call her on her boy friends phone, that way who ever is calling her will get the message as they will get her answer phone each time.

What are the phone callls??. What do people say when they ring?.

My daughter said the first call she got was what she thought a one off, as she thought that she did not get to it straight away, as she was a sleep, then there was another call, they hung up and then loads more all hanging up on her, so I told her to turn hers off and if we need her we will call her boy friends phone, that way it will cost them each time the answering machine on her phone cuts in.

It could be people accidently getting a number wrong?, I've had that happen to me when someone has phoned and they've got the wrong number.

My daughter has tried calling them back as soon as they have called her and they are not answering the phone, so we think it is some one messing her around, she will be blocking their number, as they are ringing her day and night now and none of her friends know the number.

I would not answer if I do not know the number and if there was no reason, I would not have the phone on at night. I guess there could be someone randomly dialing, or even a computer. I wonder if someone could have had that number before her. That would be scary and weird if it happened a lot.

That has to be really stressful for her, because she wants to be able to help you if needed.

It was getting really late when the calls were going to her phone, she has it on all the time in case we need her here for any reason, so she hates to have to turn it off. In the past my husband has had to call her from another number, as I was put in hospital, so she never turns the phone off and always answers it, just in case we are calling. Lets hope after we told her we would call her boy friend if she was needed, she turned her phone off, lets hope they soon get bored or she will get her number changed again.

Can't she turn off her phone until she wakes up? That is certainly what I would do. We had people calling us for awhile when we first got our phone. I would leave a message on her phone that the person who had the phone doesn't any longer (as of a certain date) and I wouldn't answer it unless I knew by the ID who was calling me.

Glad she can block them. Some people live on different hours than normal folks do too. I hope she gets this all corrected soon.

She is going to turn her phone off every night, so that they get the answering machine and that will cost them as soon as the phone gets a call it go to the answering machine. If we need her then we can call her boy friend. She also has kept the number that kept calling her, that also called her again today and she can also get the number blocked if need be.These calls that she has been getting were all late at night, so the person has nothing better to do with their time.

Maybe it is telemarketers. I get some of those too. I really hate that they got the law passed that gave them the right to harass us on our cell phones. Since we have to pay by the minute for these calls it can really add up the cost.

I'm glad she is getting some relief. Having your phone ring all the time when you know no one is going to answer you even if you do pick it up can be very annoying.

I think that it was someone messing about trying to get her back up.Thankfully the calls have stopped now, as they have not called her for over 24 hours.I hate to get calls from people who I do not know.

The number probably belonged to someone else at one time. That has happened to me with my landline. I keep getting phone calls for a person who use to have the number. I would say see about getting the number changed, but its just going to happen again. I would shut the phone off while I'm sleeping if I were her. That is what my hubby does with his cell phone.

Thats good! They will stop calling once they realize they are being charged for everytime they call

That way perhaps they will run out of credit if they are not on a contract and will not do it to anyone else.

My daughter has tried to call the number back and they do not answer, so what she is going to do is block them on her phone, as no one knows the number and they are still calling. At the moment she is keeping her phone off for the night, as she is here with us at home, so she said each time they call it will go straight to answer phone, so will cost them each time they call, lol.

She has had no calls now for 24 hours, so lets hope it has all stopped, maybe they ran out of credit getting her answer machine constantly when they tried to call.

It is an offence if someone continues to call you without speaking, especially if it happens regularly. You should call your phone company and ask for their nuisance or malicious calls team. Also if its not an immediate threat call the police by dialing 101. If it is an immediate threat dial 999. AS it would appear that the phone number is shown, your daughter should put it into her phone address book, with the name 'spam' or something similar so that she knows not to answer it. Depending on the phone she may be able to give it it's own distinctive ring-tone. Even doing this she could still feel intimidated or frightened (I know I would), however the police or phone provider should be able to deal with these people. As someone else said, it could be a recycled number so may not even know that your daughter is not the person they think it is. (In fact that may be why they didn't keep their own number in the first place).

My daughter has not had any more calls now for a few weeks, but if she do we will be changing her number. I think that it is so easy for people to be able to call, harass other people as some people have loads of those pay as you go sim cards and they can be forever getting a new sim card for their phone and start up harassing the person over and over again.

Hello my friend jugsjugs Ji, Well, MBLs atre very naughty. My hubby had such problems even. First thing he always deslikes them. My both son compelled. Now after he was getting unwanted calls, he did lot of reesearch work and found out that some Cos give Numbers, and once one gets calls and responds, money is debited and as per deals companies get lot of money. He even reported the matter like a cyber crime. Anyway, after some time, our elder son presented better MBL machine, whetre there is option to put incoming call to 'TReject-loist'. Now he gets less calls. So best is to buy better one else, she will keep getting such unwanted calls. May God bless You and have a great time

I am glad that the person that kept calling her will no longer be able to call her, as even though they stopped calling her phone, she still blocked them. She was getting calls all hours of the day and night, so it got beyond a joke in the end.

I can see how you and her would both be concerned. With the new ease of technology allowing people to find and talk to others almost instantly it has made telemarketing almost something of a capitol crime in my book but the more scarey part is that we have so many sickos out there now that you must always be on guard. Since it is a fairly new phone it is more than likely telemarketers. I think companies pay for newly activated phone numbers just so they can try to sell their crap. I would still keep a watch on the caller ID for the same number and if it continues then it can be looked up to find out exactly who is calling. This new age info works both ways a lot.

I was really worried, as this person was calling her all hours of the day and night and not saying any thing. Now the calls have all stopped and I am just in hope that they will not start up yet again.

More then likely someone else had that number before your daughter so they are trying to get a hold of the last owner of that number.. When I got my new phone last Christmas I had the same problem.. Just had to explain to the person that calls that the other person doesn't have that number.. To be on the safe side do not have your daughter say her name or anything like that just in case it is someone that is looking to grab peoples personal information.. I have a straight talk phone through walmart and if I do not pay my bill within a couple days there is a chance that I may lose my current number.. one of the down sides to my phone but it works for me.. Hopefully they all stop calling soon.. or when she is home for the night just have her turn her phone off or to vibrate while she is sleeping, just an idea.

Thank fully all her phone calls have stopped, so she no longer has that worry, as she has also blocked the number as well. I feel that it may have been one of her friends that had given out her number, but as long as she do not get any more, then she will be able to keep her phone on all the time.

It used to be that it would take quite a while before an old phone number was recycled. However, these days it really doesn't take all that long before a number is given to another person. Because of this, it is a regular occurance that you will get a lot of calls from people that had the old phone number and didn't realize that their friend or loved one had a new phone number. My husband has had his number for a couple years now and he still occasionally gets calls looking for the girl that had his phone number before he did.

The calls have stopped for now thankfully, perhaps they got fed up keep getting her answering machine and decided to quit. It is a shame that they had to keep calling her, as they were calling her late at night and then hanging up as soon as she answered the phone. It seems that they were doing it on purpose, as this was a constant thing that was going on, even when she called the number back they did not answer, where as normally people would answer the phone.

Hahhahah...I remember my incident after reading your discussion. I started here this funny or strange communication. I know most of the girls fear but I was brave because married heehhe... One day a person calling me and saying I love you darling I say hellooooo brother I am married and my husband is the best husband in world so I have not interest for marry again hehehe...he replied ohhhhh madam sorry wrong no. you are sonam I say no I am Indian married talkative women he laughed and say sorry once again and cut it. But your daughter should ask with confidence and dont fear if she is not wrong why fear face the problem with braveness.

My daughter has tried to call the number back and they are not answering, yet they were the ones just ringing her.None of her friends know whos number it is and to be honest it must be some one with more time on their hands and a very boring life to keep calling her. She is going to get the number blocked in hope that they do not get another number and start up calling her again.

hi, maybe the stranger caller only had a wrong number dialed, because it also happen to me,sometimes i will answer it and sometimes not,and when i answered it they were just wrong number dialed because they were looking for unknown name to me.

This person has now stopped calling her and she thinks she knows who it was, as another person slipped up in a conversation with her the other day. If they start to call her again then she will change her number and not give it to the person who gave her number out.

That really isn't uncommon. I have had my cell phone number almost 6 years and still receive wrong numbers. Sometimes weird things happen too. Earlier today I was trying to call my cousin. I have called her several times while at home and in the San Diego area. We went to a different town today where she was holding her daughters birthday party. We were trying to get better directions and when I called her I got someone completely different. Come to find out the area code and first 4 number of her phone number were the same as someones number locally. I had to add a 1 before her number to reach her. In all the years I have had a cell phone I had never had that happen before.

This is the same number that keeps calling her and hanging up on her all hours of the day as well as night and when she tries to call them they do not answer, so seems to me like some one doing it on purpose. She has asked her friends whos number it is and so far noone knows. However I think that she will now be blocking their number.

This happens to me and my brother too, whenever we would answer, the people or person on the other line kept looking for someone else. i think that like us, your daughter's number was recycled by the phone company and that your daughter is not the first "owner" of the said number so those calls could be coming from the old person's contacts and not really your daughter's i think your daughter can just ignore them because they can always try to send her a message if the call was important and that she needs to answer it.

My daughter has tried to call the person a lot of times and they are not answering their phone, so she has decided that someone is doing it on purpose, so she asked all her friends on face book if they know the persons number, if they do then they will tell her who it is. She will be blocking the number at this rate. She will be turning her phone off at night so in the end it will cost them as they will get the answering machine when they call.If we need her, we can call her boy friends phone if she is not here.

I just got a cell..about a month ago... and I have been getting collection calls for a April and a Alexanderia. If I dont' know the number, I don't answer it, let it go to voice mail and then check. If I don't want to block that number..there is an option on the phone to put in to block numbers. That works but for 800 numbers takes a few times before the number is denied..at least that is what is seemed. But if she just got the number, odds are the calls are for whom ever had the number before her. Either call the carrier and tell them that this is happeneing and ask for a different number and ask for one that has been on the list for a long time. They tend to just offer you the next number on the list, but hopefully if the number has not been in service for a while...those calling for the previous person have stopped calling the number. Or..block the numbers and see if that helps. I did start answering the calls..and telling them that person no longer has this number and to take me off their list and they did and everyone was rather decent about it too...so it happens alot so the carrier shouldn't have any trouble giving her a new one.

I think that she will end up blocking the number as she has got it and stored it to her phone ready to block, but she is still trying to think who it is, as they also call day time now, like today, as well as late at night. Who ever is calling her is not answering when she calls them, so it is obvious that it is some one messing around.

this happened to me once and it was because a guy had called a wrong number and when i answered he found out it was a womans voice so he kept calling back trying to make me talk to him. i had the phone company eventually shut him down with threats of prosicution

I hate it when you get calls from people that hang up on you at all hours of the day and night. It seems a shame that these people have nothing else better to do with their time or their lives. I think that my daughter will end up blocking the person, as even if she changes her number the same thing can happen again.

Oh my God, be careful. Maybe you guys should take her to school and don't allow her out for a long while by calling her friends there to hang out and all. Many phone calls can be a stalker cause I've had them and they do act like that. Not that a while will be enough time for them to stop, they can go for years...

This is getting all hours of the day as well as night and it is getting out of hand. She has even tried calling the number back and the person will not answer, so its some one who do not want her to know who they are. She has asked friends and they do not know whos number it is either and she is going to block them now, as she has had enough of them.

May be the number your daughter using is previously used by another person. As the person don't use the SIM the mobile operator block the SIM. When your daughter takes the new connection the mobile company gives the previous person's phone number.

My daughter has tried to call the person all the times that the person has called her and they are not picking up, so I think it is a person that has nothing better to do with their time other than annoy other people. I think that she will end up blocking the number that is calling her, only thing is they will probably get another phone or number and call her on that instead.
